Lolstralia. What’s with Australia and the UK being censor happy nanny states?
I think fundamentally the story telling was solid in FF14 but I felt the overall gameplay sort of sucked outside dungeons. They needed to weave in more combat into the MSQ somehow.
The mmo part felt useless. I tried to go in blind on the game mostly. So I picked up all quests and was doing them plus MSQ. And the quests are worth jack shit on xp.MSQ is what takes away from the good part of the game, aka the MMO part. I would go back but the enduring the MSQ is a no go. At least WoW lets you bypass it.
Because its usually implemented in a way thats just fucking worse than your character. Like the Tank in WoW's PVP? Its fucking awful and slow. Sureeeee you can take the wall/tower/barricade out with much more ease. But god forbid one to three or more players start attacking you. Its a gah' damn TANK - why is it some slow, fragile, glass cannon? How is that fun? "Oh but you just need to be a team player!" no.. fuck that. Make it damn near God mode for a short duration. Or the CC from Naxxramas raid boss? Yes, that is exactly what I want to do while everyone else is having fun ... /yawn. Or all the vehicles you can use in Ulduar? Fucking hate starting that raid, but love the rest of it, because I hate that entire beginning sequence. The vehicles are just straight AWFUL. If you want interaction from players like that, then have them interact with the environment on their character - like the saw blade dude in Siege of Orgrimmar where you're hopping in tubes, and traversing conveyor belts etc.People have bitched about being forced to control things that aren't their character in MMOs for decades. I remember people cried like fucking babies about Wintergrasp and them adding vehicles on the forums
"I learned to master my class, now I have to learn something new????"
This is why we can't have nice things

You only ever have to do the MSQ once. You can max out all classes and professions on one toon. You can change anything and everything about your toon if you want something new.I have always felt that way about FF14 but I think its intentional and also seems to be ok with their primary audience. FF14 is a solo-RPG with MMO elements sprinkled in. That's what I tell myself. They put an unbelievable amount of time and resources into their story (MSQ) and it shows. I'm not particularly interested in it and if you step away from the game for any length of time, it stacks up almost to the point you don't want to deal with it. Again, that's from my perspective who wants to play the game like a MMO (which I enjoy the most) but I'm obviously not their target audience. I tell people all the time, it is an incredible MMO but its buried under the MSQ. You can pay to skip it or suffer through it. Most people end up enjoying the MSQ but only the first couple of times. Its hard to be a critic because they do very well but I do wish they took a different approach to the MSQ but also understand that would probably not align with their philosophy to their game.

Our group had 3 alts at one point selling coil runs, till we realized money doesn't really buy you shit here except the next crafted gear set. There’s virtually no reason to make a second character unless you lost your account or need to reroll in Europe or Asia or whatever
