I think Type-0 is okay. I guess the one big jimmy rustler is fight 3 enemies, go to the next area, fight 6, go to the next area, fight an officer and 2 guys

Yeah this and the voice acting are bad. Lots of short loading, guy talks, load, guy talks, load, static picture scene with taking, load etc. Can tell this was made for an inferior platform and ported.

I also don't care for having so many playable characters. Glad they are fixing that in 15.

I'll still play through it despite the flaws.

Just checking in to back up Kriptinis' thought process. Bravely Default (and the sequel that is apparently on the way) are FF done as FF fans who don't like the current direction want. Seriously, I cannot say enough about this game and how great it is. It is -exactly- what people want when it comes to turn based FF. Purchase a 3ds and play this shit, it is worth it.

See the Bravely Default/FF thread! We already discussed how awesome BD is. Amazing job system, a different take on the turn based combat, gorgeous music, and a terrific story (im not done with it yet)

Back to the XV demo discussion. How has no one brought up collision!?? Fuck me, that drove me nuts! So many times where some random party member would stand in a narrow corridor, wont move the fuck out of the way, you can't push through them, you can't jump over them... FUCK YOU!!! Fucking infuriating that you have to turn around and run the entire party away, to turn right back around to go the direction you were trying to go.

I echo the other thoughts about how god damn spammy the combat is. Great, there is a tutorial about these movies and counters and whatnot fighting 1 person, but the ENTIRE rest of the combat vs the world is fighting hoardes of monsters at once. It's just annoying to no end and once you have the Blade ability to just warp smash all over the place, that's all you can be bothered doing. Where is my turn based FF RPG that we all know and love?

Last gripe is the horrible English voice acting. It's terrible and there is no excuse for it. Every game studio is using quality voice actors these days and if anyone in the Japanese industry has pockets deep enough, its Square Enix. Go and find some real talent and re-record every last word.

Positives? It looks pretty and the sound effects are top notch on a home theater system.

Got to my mid-40s and killed Behemoth legit (no summon) and figured that's all there is to be seen in the demo.

Yeah the collision is the only thing i detested, the combat i loved - and i could care less about turn based RPGs - i like some of them sure but i dont mind a change up from the norm. I didnt "mind" the voice acting, but i hope i can do jap w/subtitles come release.

Honestly, the main char isn't bad at all. It's the silly ass blond kid who is literally annoying. The british guy and the beefy dude were fine, but the blond kid was whining nonstop through most of the combat. I'm sure even in japanese he's annoying, but I wouldn't understand it so it would just be background noise until he says nani or no or something.

I really enjoyed the demo and am pretty hopeful for the full game. FF13 is the first one I didn't finish and I basically haven't played anything since. Type 0 seems kind of different, so I'll give it a go. How is FF13 part 2? I see it's on Steam. Is it worth picking up? Is the PC port good?

FF13-2 was a better game overall imo. It's a time travel plot where you jump to different points in time and solve problems that arise; you can chose which points you want to go to depending where you are in the game so it's not as linear as the first game was. You only have two characters but the third is filled by monsters you capture which can fill any role you need. There are also a bunch of sidequests you do that you sometimes have to figure out which point in time you have to go back to solve it, etc. Combat is a little faster, same combat system as the first but it doesn't have that retarded stoppage when you switch roles. Also has a little casino thing for mini games and a bunch of collectible shit if you are the completionist type.

Only gripes I had was the story kinda falls flat(alot isn't really explained until the end) and the game is a bit on the easy side.

I can't speak for the PC port but I think it's 1080p at least?

The ff13 2 port works fine assuming you don't have an older pc, the beefier your rig the better your performance. It never crashed once in all the time I played it - I used a 360 gamepad. I have way less harsh opinions of final fantasy games than most. I thought the story of 13 through 13-2 so far has been enjoyable. I will be buying 13-3 when it comes out on steam later this year.

Edit: I ran it at 1920x1080 - the launcher has options to set 16x AA as well as shadow quality - with a 8120x8120 as the highest. Resolution settings, window or full screen mode. Other than that no extra video settings in the launcher.

Back to the 15 discussion.

13-2 is heaps better than 13. It doesn't neuter what you can do with characters until 15 hours in, so immediately better. Ignore the time travel shit since we all know that it never works out in a logical manner, and just enjoy the mechanics. 13 was a teaser for 13-2 at this point, and it really was the better game.

Every time 13 is mentioned i scoff and wonder if ive stepped into an alternate reality. I only played 13-2 for less than an hour and didnt even consider 13-3, even with 13-3 being potentially free id not bother to touch it. Ive been playing 0 a bit, its quite the change and it makes me wish theyd revisit The Last Remnant.

13 is shit.
13-2 is completely playable. I even beat that shit. First FF I've bothered playing to the end in years.

FF13 wasn't good, but it doesn't really deserve the flak it gets either. It was really weird to me, right from the beginning, how they changed all the 'class' names from what we always knew to these weird-ass shits. Why couldn't you just keep black mage, red mage, warrior, etc? Stupid decision, way to ruin my immersion.

The story is on rails the first 95% of the game, and that's where people hate it. When it opens up, it's not really much better either though. The last boss is really retarded looking and was a let down. Story was "ok", but I didn't find myself liking any of the characters although I could've liked Lightning if she wasn't such a monotoned bitch. Combat was just ok. It was like they tried to use the old turn-based combat, but the auto-attack stuff just completely ruins it. No strategy required, just auto it. Cool combinations can be had, and I liked switching roles, but in the end it was just a boring game. I still enjoyed it, just not really memorable to me. I can't tell you what any bosses looked like except the stupid last boss.

FF13-2 was a little better, but still not great. The 3rd party being a monster was a cool idea, but once you get certain monsters you won't really bother picking anything else up (OP CHOCOBOS). Characters were doubly annoying in this one. Combat was identical for the most part, so if you don't like FF13 then you won't like this. Time travel was ok, but even though the game was supposed to be more open it just felt like they were "stages" or "levels", which I don't think belong in a sprawling RPG. Story was retarded as usual, with a singer from an 80's metal band as the main protagonist. Frame rate issues on PS3 plague this game too, they tried too much.

FF13-3 I never fully beat. It was just ok. There's a clock ticking down, so there is a sense of "rushing" to beat the game. It's just lightning in this, with switching roles and shit, so the combat was interesting in some ways and boring in others. Game plays a bit more open. I didn't really care for the story and got a little bored after the 4th day or something. I might try to play this one again soon.

I sent back type zero about half way through I couldn't play it anymore. Looking forward to 15 though the series needs a revamp desperately.

Series needs a revamp with a gay looking boy band. I think that's the worst part. Gameplay looks alright, story might be good, boy band (wtf?)

Thinking back on the character designs on the series, they were a lot better when they were actually 'fantasy' themed for both males and females. Espers, mages, summoners, swordsmen, knights, pirates all work so much better than human villagers (who are good at a sport) that look like Japanese teen dream idols. Taking FFX as an example: Yuna/Lulu vs Rikku, Auron vs Tidus/Wakka. FFXII: Balthier/Fran vs Vaan/Penelo
