My guess is that in the grand theme of the story it won't matter the reason the NW killed Jon. They are going to be killed to a man shortly anyway when the WW army comes. And that will happen hours after Mel and Davos leave with Jon's body.

You know they don't do this. We had the same questions about seeing Tyrion sitting with Dany during last season's productions. If you spy on the production you will see what they are going to do, especially with casting.

Do we have any examples of shows having thought-dead characters appear in production just to fool the media/viewers?

Oh I know they don't. I would also hope that if he was still alive they would spend extra money to just fly him to other places to be seen during filming of the episode in like a bald cap and some makeup and then whisked back to filming for 2 days and back and forth to throw off viewers.

Up to this point they have been working with information that was spoiled by the books. From now on they are writing the script and they should be keeping things secret. They won't though.

Jon Snow being rezzed by Mel was telegraphed in the books and the show. Same with L+R=J. It's fine if people figure that out because he actually wrote clues and foreshadowing into the texts and that carried over to the show as well.

I think the same way. No need to keep it ridiculously secret if they allude to it all over the damn place in the books, show etc. This is no LUKE I AM YOUR FATHER! kind of moment if he really is coming back.

Can still have people thinking it's just for a funeral/flashback scene.

Then poof, Jon Targ is alive and well, so they didn't lie "from a certain point of view" about "Jon Snow" being dead.

the timeline matches ned's absence from winterfell. if true it also makes jon the heir of the sword of the morning.

also in season 1 ep7 cersei accuses ned of raping women and stealing ashara dayne's baby.
