They are out of options. There is no way you can properly end this thing in just one true extended season. It took 6 seasons to finish 5 books so no way they can end this properly in 13 episodes. At least you aren't like readers in the series. GRRM will die before he ends it. Hell, the War of the Roses may have taken less time than it will for this to end. At least both are top notch no matter how many gripes we have.

everyone is focusing on the lack of trees, but the biggest problem with his fleet is that even if you had limitless wood and shipbuilders, you still need to wait a year or so for that green fucking wood to dry out because all those ships would sink when the wood started warping.

Meh you can build a deep keel ship on a beach, it fucking sucks and requires a shit ton more labor. Just dropping and sawing timber into planks is epic work without a watermill and that is a slow as fuck form of power.
The lore should have been Viking style ships. Easier / faster to build, less material, ultra fast with flexible hulls. And were the preferred craft for raiding villages because they didnt need to pull into a harbor.

The whole Iron Islands thing is a big sham, I cant see an entire society thriving only from the spoils of raiding. If the Vikings were the template, the 'we do not sow' thing falls apart, they were world class traders, decent farmers and top tier metal smiths.
