Already taking an antipasto board, a spinach salad that has goat cheese, cranberries, granny smith apple and pecans. I wanted one more "different" hot something (besides Steady) to take.
My sisters already have the green bean casserole, smashed and sweet potatoes, dressing, breads and desserts covered.
Very Midwest traditional. I like to do something a little different. Not so much it won't be eaten, but good golly, something new to the fam.

These are always a hit when I make them

Chips and spicy guacamole? Because the guac also doubles as a great condiment to add to turkey.
You both had me at bacon.

Heck throw some bacon in it

local mom and pop supermarket had ambiguously labelled white boxes of "Wayside Bacon," 10lbs for $18.99. sounded too good to be true, so i went over to ask the deli worker about it. she said she hadn't personally tried it, but she'd sold probably 50 boxes so far and hadn't had any complaints.

got it home and cracked it open, and it looks damn good.

score.

Plastic silverware included for scale, I swear I wasn't so overwhelmed by the bacon that I was about to dig in and eat it raw

Without going through the last 200 pages, where can I go for solid slow cooker/crock pot recipes? Besides allrecipes.com which I've been 2 for 7 so far...

I've really been digging these

Honey Garlic Crockpot Meatballs - Family Fresh Meals
Crockpot Cheesy Chicken & Rice - Family Fresh Meals

Only two I tried so far, they tasted amazing with low effort. Great for my lunches.

The cheesy chicken one tasted just like a really good chicken and dumplings (I left out the corn). Next time I may throw some dumplings in there.

Starting up Keto again after Thanksgiving, going to engorge myself on Gordan Ramsay's Beef and Ale stew. I can't freaking wait.

I've got chicken and dumplings, and chicken and rice down. I'll give that site a go on some of the other stuff, though. Thanks!

Thanksgiving week and no cooking thread posts?

turkey.jpg

Here's my turkey porn. Tom turkey that we raised from a chick and butchered on Sunday. Spatchcocked it and dry-brined in the refrigerator and threw it on the Yoder at 10 AM, 325 degrees. Turns out I should have thrown it on at 8:30. The fucking thing weighed 35 lbs. Came out great despite delaying dinner by an hour, but what the hell, it just makes you more ready to pig out. 16 people and we only managed to eat maybe 1/3 of this pig.

Uh, that photo isn't a spatchcocked bird. Unless you didn't break the breastbone and flatten it down? If you don't flatten it, you lose ALOT of what makes spatchcocking so great. Nice flat even area, no central dead air area.

Not my bird, but last Saturday I spatchcocked a 12lb'er and cooked it for 30 min at 450, 60 min more at 350. Came out pretty good.

Trust me, it's flat. Like I said, 35 lb bird. Each breast was the size of a regulation football.

Trying to find a pots and pans set, and the reviews of even $500 sets on Amazon are shitty. People complaining about pans arriving used, gross! or warping after one use. I understand a lot of bad reviews are people just mis-treating the pan, but yea. Wanna go stainless steel, as I'm sick of shitty Teflon wearing off, and I don't wanna limit my utensils to wood, etc.

Recommendations?

And is there decent knife sets out there? I know there's been talk about it before.

Thanks guys.

What pot and pans do you need? Personally I think buying sets of either pans or knives is the wrong approach because they always pad the sets with shit you don't need and personally I wouldn't buy the same brand of frying pan as I would sauce pan etc.

I use Shun knives. I've had them 15 years and they're as good as new still and I've had great luck with customer service as well. Obviously there are other good options but I've been very happy with my Shuns.

Macy's usually has nice sales on tri clad stainless steel sets, so keep on eye out for one of those. As far as knives, if you want great bang for buck try out victoronix.

That's a good point, and I wouldn't mind buying just certain pots/pans. The sets are typically a good mix of what I use though, albeit some more than others which is why I was going for sets. Figured sets would be more commonly on sale for Black Friday as well.

Looks like some decent deals on All-Clad stuff: https://www.macys.com/shop/featured/tri-clad/Special_offers/Special Offer
