What the fuck was Crispin Glover's accent supposed to be in Pickman's Model? Sounded like a retarded combination of German, Jersey, NE, and fuck knows what else.

epi 2. was meh. actor overacting. (David Hewlett.)
I think the story lost its way with, rats>giant rat>zombie cultist back to rats. like, it would have been solid with just rats. or, if the rats, and even giant rats leading into the cult then staying with that, would have been something. I suppose it would pay off, if this one has a followup/sequel with the necklace. old ones, shadow people, etc chasing down everyone as it passes hands.

ep3 is pretty solid. biggest issue is "secrecy is so important, that I must destroy object, but also, I just won't shut up and go on and on, and on, talking nonstop."

Overall with these 8 installments, it felt like GDT was just giving 8 losers a chance to get their stories onto a screen, and/or try their hand at directing. That's not a bad thing at all... but it does show in the quality. Most of them feel like a middle-schooler was behind the pen, camera, or both.

I don't regret watching, but it wasn't anything I'd recommend with any fervor. Kinda disappointed to be honest, I love horror/thriller anthology stuff like this.

I mean, yeah. thats usually how anthologies go.

not quite done with epi4 yet. but 75% through or so, this is some real "tales from the darkside"/Creepshow shit. Very solid. we will have to see if they stick the landing.

edit: sadly, no they don't end it well. If it just ended after she left the house at the end. it would have been great. To keep going like that, needed an ironic twist, which doesn't happen.

All anthologies are chock full of shitty high-school level writers/directors? I'm not sure I agree.

why did the old man do all that hopping shit before he entered his unit?

episode 1 - skip the first 45 mins, just watch the last 5 mins for CGI horror. i guess, i mean its basically just a video game cut scene
episode 5 - not really a horror story, more a "ugly chicks have feelings too" episode. i kinda liked it but i fast forwarded a lot, both these episodes move SO FUCKING SLOW. Both are 5 minutes of story stretched out to 50 mins. The guy from silicon valley is great. I like the 80s Fargo aesthetic.

dunno if i really wanna watch episode 2, rats kinda creep me out although more from a "they have so many diseases!" aspect than actual scared of them.
spronk actually means epi4 here btw, with the ugly chicks.

episode 5 is pickmans model. which itself is also a too long disjointed mess. its a very loose adaptation of Pickman's Model, from Lovecraft. but, greatly extended out, adding all sorts of pointless filler, and Lovecrafting themes and homages. random shit to add random shit.

All of these are 20 minutes too long thats for sure. 5 and 6 were definitely the best episodes. 4 wasnt bad, pretty messed up.

epi6. witches house. is ok. again, too many plot threads. characters. it introduces all these characters it does nothing with. Lots of rules I don't understand. the main character messing with things he doesn't understand and not asking questions.
"twins!" i mean ok. "mutual exclusive!" what? what does that mean? "dont make ripples" what? whats that mean? or else what? witchs familiar in the real world at the start. how? Alive at the end, with a dead witch. how? (crossed over during the "kissing" I guess.) she the girls ghost ascending. but, we don't see the guys ghost for any conclusion.
bonus points for woke casting, but not actually making ANY reference to racism within the story.

epi7. 90% of its great. character driven. all talking... then completely drops the ball on the finale.
Was expecting mushroom supergod, not generic shitty monster.
all should have been infected with spores. and the two escaping, turned into worshipers.

This was cheesy 80's after midnight shlock. Netflix has reached rock bottom and has started to dig.

epi.8 the Murmuring is solid as well. A very slow burn ala, Hill house, or the lady in black. Setting up bird watching, recording, and slow reveals at relationship/motherhood issues.

8 is probably the best of the bunch. low on scares, but very emotional and humans acting like actual people.
1 and 2 are probably the worst. with, almost none of the woke shit from the first, poisoning the rest.
none really stand out for amazing creativity, or originality. or have that much staying power imho. none of it is Trick R treat, black mirror, or love death and robots. not even VHS really.

Yea I had no plans on watching any of this, but I had to take a look once I learned there was two Lovecraft episodes. Watched both Pickman and Witch House.

Of the two Pickman "felt" more Lovecraftian with how they handled the insanity aspect of the mythos...simply witnessing the cosmic horrors will drive a normal person mad. About midway through I got an Event Horizon vibe which was confirmed with that fucking ending lol. Would agree there was a lot of unnecessary filler which could've been put to better use, but overall I give it a pass for trying.

The Which House on the other hand just came across as a disjointed ghost story. If you removed Brown Jenkin (rat thing) and changed the title I would have no idea it was a Lovecraft story.

I wish someone would get Lovecraft right just once.

I find myself losing interest after 20min and start to skip, they are way too slow moving.

On episode 6 now and so far they have been kinda meh.

Liked the autopsy episode the best.

Some of these were completely bankrupt in terms of storytelling and themes. What was with the unmitigated drug porn in the Peter Weller episode? I know drug exploitation movies were a thing but it just felt shitty, dragged out, out of place…and none of it mattered. Cosmic brain horror can explode people’s heads then turns into an incredibly slow moving zombie….huh?

The experience of clicking "like" on this post was interesting:

"yeah that all sounds like stuff I agree with" - click like
Swift moment of horror and self-loathing as I notice it's Bubbles due to the avatar - "wtf I liked a Bubbles post?"
Relief as I realize for some reason Zaara is using the Bubbles avatar

I just finished watching that one. I didn't think it was quite in the spirit of the series, but it was crazy and kinda awesome (much like Mandy). The score was by the same guy who did Uncut Gems
