I’m going to try going back to baking soda water for curbing acidity.

other updates, after about a week of stopping the PPI, the palpitations have been reduced by about 95%. But I had more frequent AFIB at night. This could be because stomach acid/gas getting too high again. I had half a tsp of baking soda water last night and didn’t have AFIB for the first night in awhile. I hope that’s a good sign.

weight down to 226, ten pounds since 6/2
Baking soda is bad for GERD, gargling baking soda, even washing your nose with it helps with LPR, as it deactivate stomach enzyme that are eating up your throat,.but again reducing stomach acid should be only if everything else failed.

Try gaviscon, it’s got pretty much the same success rate as ppi for gerd, especialy if you're not retarded, it is slightly harder to use, but has no significant side effect, even long term.

You have to use it after meals,.and not take anything, liquid or solid,.after taking it. Let the gravity do its job, and try to get some of its assistance at night, sleeping with a slight slope. And use 1 or even 2 gavison before going to bed.

Pretty cool stuff to understand how it works :

This might sound weird, but if you're accustomed to drinking fluids while you eat, try not drinking anything until 15 minutes after you eat something so your stomach acids won't be diluted and will do their job better. I found this helped me a lot with heartburn, although i still have occassional flare ups. Cutting out most bread and especially enriched flour made a massive difference too, I take a PPI sometimes but it's like ~1 a month now on average and only if i've still got heartburn near bedtime.

I was getting GERD earlier this year and finally realized I have to stop eating like a 20 yesr old. Really committed to eating an early dinner, no sweets in the evening and it cleared itself right up. Stopped relying on Omezaprole as well. I slip up all the time and sure enough, if I eat too late I'm reaching for the Tums at 1 a.m. Gotts be living that Early Bird Special life.

The covid sweats are real. My telltale signs both times I got covid were mild fever followed by night sweats for like 5 days.

Paxlovid was real rough for me. Cured me real quick but then I got the covid bounce back which was essentially another bout of covid the next week. I won't take the stuff again. It almost feels like they don't give you enough doses.

So....

Finally had the follow up to my mass removal from my right kidney, and discussion about what would need to be done about the mass on my left one. Yep, I am hauling around 1 (formerly 2) renal cell carcinoma masses. Thought it would hit harder, and still might, but a combination of things seem to be keeping me even keeled right now.
  • Cancerous or not, the other mass would need to come out at some point. So the fact it's cancerous mostly just means having an MRI every 6 months-year for the rest of my days.
  • The other mass is also a candidate for cryoblation, which was extremely minimal impact for a surgery.
Snippet from the urologist conversation today :
Him : "Let's just scan it again in 4 months and see where it's at"
Me : "Will we eventually have to surgically/radiologically remove it either way, at some point, right?"
Him : Yeah
Me : Then why are we waiting?

So he then puts in to schedule an MRI for Thursday to make sure nothings changed in the situation internally, and tentatively an cryoblation procedure probably next week. But he says I'll have to follow up with another Dr at the practice, turns out he's about to go on vacation for a month and a half (which explains some things I guess.)

1.5 month wait is pretty shitty, do they not have other practice/dr they can refer you to?

(Edit: Misread.) Definitely go with the other doc. Never a good idea to wait around with cancer if treatment is inevitable.

Yeah, that's why he said I'd have to follow up with his associate, who will now become my go to there. But he put in for the MRI and Cryoblation today, and neither of those will be performed by this Urologist. It will just be who I follow up with after.

Although I'll admit in general this urology practice, even though it came recommended by someone I know, and handled my wife's nephrectomy, has underwhelmed me. Even on the little stuff like "making sure lab results get up on the patient portal with some quickness."

And yeah, since all roads (cancer or not) lead to getting the other mass removed/destroyed as well I see no reason to delay. I want this nonsense over before holiday season.

Absolutely , not even sure why they are waiting around. Guess its at their convenience?

On my front , today is an anniversary of sorts. I've been 1 year seizure free. Still pisses me off that the neurologist said I was OK to come off the seizure meds since it was a tumor that caused the seizure. I fired the fuck out of them but sadly they probably still have not figured it out. New one is great, that mofo tried their hardest to give me a seizure but nope!

The Urologist I have been seeing, who is their "complicated situation specialist" for doing things like laparoscopy when that's needed, is of the Tribe, and taking like a month off which I suspect means he's heading to Israel for the high holy holidays and whatnot.

And congrats on getting better coverage for the seizures!

My sister had a lump or whatever on her breast in a mammogram. They scheduled a biopsy and it was a month out. She called several other places, same thing. It's like they all wen ton summer vacation at once. My niece works in imaging at two different hospitals because she fills in for one because they are mega short. My mom talked to my niece and she said she could work 80 hours a week if she wanted week after week now. She's not a radiologist or whatever, some kind of imaging tech. I'm not sure what she does other than set up xrays and get your into the MRI because she said for most stuff they send it off electronically to somewhere they have a contract with.

Hers came back negative but seemed crazy to me espeically since they have a mega large cancer center in town. After the the biopsy it took a week to get the results. Seemed slow to me but what do I know. I know when my mom had breast cancer she went in and a biopsy was scheduled the next day and she got the results two days after that.

I had a lumbar puncture and according to the test results it went to the Mayo clinic or at least the mayo clinic lab and I got it back in 3-4 days.

Just a reminder to get your colonoscopies. It's not super fun but sure beats late-stage colon cancer, which is hitting younger and younger these days.

The 2 days leading up to it suck, but the procedure itself is great unless you are allergic to the stuff they use to knock you out. And the meal you get on the way home? Hnnnnngh.

probably posted this before, but i was surprised how different colonoscopies experiences are between different places, even in the same medical system. i had mine at local hospital. prep was 3 day diet with almost 3 pages of eat/don't eat rules. dad had his at the "super gastro complex", he had to drink less prep mix and his diet was 2 days with a single page of eat/don't eat. at the hospital, i got a private prep/waiting room. the gastro complex, it was like a mash unit. prep area was a huge room divided up with curtains. each person's area was big enough for a bed and standing room next to it.
it is best to ask around if you have a choice of places to go to.

I think my prep was one day or maybe a little more and the only eat/don't eat I got was don't drink anything other than clear stuff and don't eat anything after a certain time. It wasn't all that bad. It was obviously they were used to doing and it was maybe 15 minutes after I got to the hospital I was being asked to count backwards and out. Then post op I don't really remember but it wasn't all that long and of course had someone else drive me since I was about 45 minutes away. I stopped at one of my favorite eating places and got something in the drive through on the way home. I had a colonscopy and endoscopy done together.

I had mine when I hit 50 in prime COVID lockdown. Summertime could not go in the place until you were called. Had to go in alone , have procedure, then leave. Mask whole time. For what it was , I walked in told the guy with the knockout juice exactly what I weighed when we left the house. Asked him to knock me the fuck out and bam it was over.

For prep , I paid $40 for Sutab(tm) tablets . You take half at night, half in the morning of , with water. No giant jar of gunk to drink , no messing about. When they hit, it was ON. We had these round tops on our wastebaskets in the bathroom and my wife asked me why I took them off. I told her when that prep hit I was going to be in there a while and wanted to read on my tablet. Needed a stand. BTW Cannot recommend the Sutab prep enough. It was awesome.
