I’ve heard of patients having good luck by showing this stack of paperwork to their local congressman and/or filing a complaint to state insurance board but maybe it’s just rumors

Seems like a lot of the horror stories are BCBS (they fucked me too multiple times) at one point I was arguing that a MRI was covered and they were saying it was not and the $2K cost was mine. I wrote all the times/dates/whos in a document I titled 'Exhibit A' to sue them when I guess they gave up. The Radiologist was in network so they covered it. They are a fucking clown show. Not sure any of the others are any better.

This whole fiasco was my son was receiving ABA for autism. At some point after 2 years of services we had to fill out some random survey they sent about his care. Based on what we provided, they claimed a third party reviewed our response and determined my son was "doing much better now" and no longer needed therapy so they wouldnt cover it. The kicker to that was they said they would stop covering it a couple months ago, so were trying to charge us for months of services out of pocket.
Couple things:
1. You don't just cure autism, obviously
2. If he was getting better IT WAS BECAUSE HE WAS IN THERAPY
3. Fine you want to stop covering it, you can't just say 'we stopped covering it a few months ago' and never tell us.
This wasn't some rinky dink charge, it was several thousands of dollars.
When I appealed they sent me that, which was an EOB of every single therapy session among many other things.
Eventually they just dropped the charge and we stopped services. Thankfully new insurance deemed it medically necessary.

little off topic, but figured i would share
right now, i take 2 pills and 9-10 supplements. for a long time, just just picking the AM pills out my 7 day holder, but stuff got changed and wasn't working. i got the one the left. had it for a couple of weeks, then mins after filling it up, glass of water slipped out of my hand onto the counter, spill water everywhere and knocking the case off, to where it opened every door and i lost a whole weeks worth of pills. upgraded to one on the right with snap locks and can say, after dropping it out of head high cabinet, it still held all the pills in place. it isn't prefect, think couple of the lids could be trimmed.
think might upgrade to something like this exy dose. when i used to have supper and nighttime pills had one like the one of the right, without the timer.

I also had the one on the left forever, and have now upgraded to the one on the right.
I have never in my personal historical experience known of ANYTHING good coming from "filling out a post treatment survey", as every time all it seems to be is the insurance company looking for a reason to deny coverage, or an excuse to sue someone for something...
Neither of those benefits me as a patient and customer of the insurance company.

Need advice on an antibiotic dose. Got prescribed Amox-Clav (500-125) for a really bad/painful infection. Despite that (apparently) being a large dose, it went on and on and the pain was horrendous for over a week. Ran out of the first dose and the pain was down to about 30% of where it started, so I got a second dose. They just kinda put their hands up when I asked how long I should take it. Fast forward a few days to today and I'm finally pain-free, with about 8 more days left on the second dose. I'm fairly sure the antibiotic is having a bad effect on me at this point, since I've been very lethargic the last couple days even as the infection went away.
I know normally you're supposed to finish a full antibiotic dose even after the pain is gone, but this is a second dose, and I'm not real keen on doing another 8 days of this.
Should I just keep taking them and run out the script even though I think it's having a bad effect, or is there a particular amount of time I can stop taking it after the pain goes away? I was thinking Monday could be the last day, which would put me 3 days out from when the pain stopped. If I continue the dosage it'll go until the following Sunday and I'm concerned it'll do damage.
I don't know much about antibiotics, and neither it seems does the guy who prescribed them.

Honestly I would take them till they are gone, not a doctor but wipe that shit out and know you are done with it. If the health reasons your are saying are a thing go back to the dr or an ER. Antibiotics shouldn't fuck with you that bad.

Better safe than sorry when it comes to infections. Stay on it until it's done. Talk to your doc about the lethargy, but that is pretty common with antibiotics in general.

Roger that, I'll just keep going until it's done. Was mainly worried about permanent damage, bacterial resistances developing, etc. However this was a serious infection and unless there's a major reason not to, I'd rather make sure it's totally dead. It'll be 20 straight days of antibiotics by the time I take the last one, and the fact that it took 12 days just to get rid of the pain shows how bad it was.

Many studies show "permanent" damage to the immune system caused by antibiotics, as increased risk of cancer even from dose of antibiotics took 20 years earlier. My guess is that the damage isn't that permanent, it's just that antibiotics combined with absolute garbage which is the western diet and especialy the american diet, as americans tends to nuke anything ressembling a bacteria on their food, if your diet is made of frozen pizza, probably takes forever for your guts to recover.
Plenty of studies and common sense point that using lots of fermented food and probiotics will decrease massively the side effects of antibiotics when taking the treatment. My guess is that you can recover in a decent amount of time with those. It's certainy best to vary the bacteria (kefir, kimchi , raw sauerkraut, actual cheese, yoghurt...).

Well there are multiple studies on cancer and they put a variable 'lifetime consumption of antibiotics’ ans it increases your risk significantly, and not just 'last few years consumption'.
It’s not as insane as it sounds if cancer can take a decade to be detected and if damages from antibiotics can last years with a shitty lifestyle.
Not to mention that abuses of antibiotics in childhood might fuck up your immune system permanently, as you prevent it from training properly.

Antibiotics are an important tool that can be abused/misused/incorrectly prescribed like any other. Unfortunately, we often don’t know long term/over use/multiple order effects.
