I think it's mostly a Sekiro Lite, they tried to take the good parts (combat gameplay in Grand Master, secrets, platform and exploration).

There's "backtracking" as you get new powers and that wall you couldn't get through isn't so solid anymore, get access to parts of the map you couldn't before etc.

There's also no loot system, you get new powers and droid stuff mostly through story and secrets. Lockboxes only contain skins for you and your lightsaber.

I'm at the 4th planet and I like it so far, it's not awesome and I don't think it warrants a full price, I got it through Origin Premier so it's a solid 20-30h experience for €15.

I'll second Sekiro light and really wish they had gone full tilt with the attacks on the shoulder buttons by default. It's fun and I'm really happy I was able to rent it for three nights for $7 from Redbox and expect to finish it before Monday if I can stop wasting time on this stupid freaking frog I found shortly into the first real level. It's like the damn crystal gecko from the DS3 tutorial in that you probably shouldn't waste your time on it at this point but at the same time fuck that thing for existing.

Been having fun with it. I am old and I totally suck at these sorts of games so I'm having to play on the second to lowest difficulty and I'm still struggling. I'm only on the second planet (well, I picked the red/witch planet as my second) and I'm not quite getting the combat.

I'm sure people who are experienced with this genre find this stuff trivial but iirc this is the first time I've ever played a 'Darksouls-Like' game ever. Except maybe the very very first Ninja Gaiden game on old XBox (which I completely sucked at and played for about an hour total).

I like the story so far and the voice acting and animations are well done. I like the Assassin's Creed / Prince of Persia aspect but as a mostly turn-based slow-paced sort of gamer, the fights are hard for me. I tried killing the 3-Eyed Frog on the very first planet about 50 times and I got him down to 1/20th health once but could never do it again so I figured I'd skip him and come back later. I suppose the game does not intend for you to be able to kill him as a newbie (but I almost did!).

One thing I find slightly disappointing is that all of the chests in the game are nothing more than skins. I get that leveling up and meditating is the main way to get stronger, but the occasional stim-pack or something in a chest would be nice.

I'm having fun and I'm willing to try to master the learning-curve that these sorts of games require. It's been a long time since I played a fighting game or a fast-react twitchy type game so I have a lot of rust to knock off, but so far I'm having fun doing so.

Not sure if $60 is the right price, but to be fair, I'm only on the second planet. (No idea how many planets exist, I have not watched or read any spoilers at all, including this thread)

Fun game. Maybe worth waiting for a sale unless Souls-Like and/or Star Wars games are you're absolute favorites.

You can kill it fairly easily if you wait until you're just about to go back to your ship. The final short cut takes you right above its cave, and there's a hole that lets you do a drop attack for ~40% of its life (on Jedi Master, probably like 60% or more on Jedi Knight). However, the only reason to bother is for XP because you still can't open the red chest that its guarding until you go to the Zeffo homeworld and fix BD-1's Scomp Link. It doesn't respawn though since it's a mini-boss, so xp is a good enough reason to do it anyway imo.

That said, if you're willing to git gud early on and do at least part of Dathomir first, you can grab one of the very few lootable items that is actually a major combat upgrade.

I believe I made it to the part you're talking about where I looted a 'major combat upgrade' dual saber? and that's about as far as I got before my little fingies were getting tired and I had to save and quit after that.

I redid some of the controller controls to something I am more comfortable with. Mainly switched normal attack to RB and parry to LB(which I've got those set to the paddles on my Elite controller) Swapped a couple others as well and starting to like the feel of the game better.

Sekiro I guess. Somewhere between that and Darksiders (1). There's basically no customization besides choosing what order to buy the skills in. Everything else is cosmetic.

Its nowhere near sekiro in terms of difficulty and stuff though, I'd rank it closer to something like Assassins Creed or Batman in that regards (unless the highest difficulty maybe). I'm playing a step below and while I still die a lot to new areas because I don't understand enemy AI or position, the game is far far more generous. You only lose souls XP if you die to enemies, if you die to the environment you just immediately respawn. Its souls/sekiro like in that there are bonfires, enemies who kill you "capture" your missing XP and you get it back by attacking them, you have stims (flasks), and enemies respawn when you rest at the campfire. I didn't like Sekiro because I was constantly frustrated at how random shit was always killing me and I felt like a shitty gamer for how bad I was doing, I haven't felt like that yet in this game.

I put in 5-6 hours on xbox last night and really am gonna try to finish in the next day, I'm REALLY enjoying it so far. Far more than Borderlands 3, Gears 5, and The Outer Worlds all of which I've really enjoyed but haven't really felt like playing more than 1-2 hours at a time. I really feel like staying up all night to play this game though, and might - dropped wife off today morning at airport, I've got all of today and tomorrow to play games and eat pizza, living the dream baby

The Star Wars immersion is fantastic and I've really missed that vibe from a game. This plus new episodes of Mandalorian is like viagra, for 12 year old me. hmm that doesn't come out right

My take after watching multiple streams, is if it didn't have the Star Wars theme going for it, it wouldn't even be on anyone's radar. Mediocre game no where near the level of quality a standalone game without the SW name to fall back on would need to have. Animations look clunky. Gameplay looks monotonous. Maybe playing it is better than watching it. I don't think having it be Star Wars is enough to turn a 4/10 into an 8/10

I just can't bring myself to buy anything from EA anymore. But I feel like animations are one of the last things i'd complain about. The visuals in this are the most tempting thing to me. I think i'll probably pirate it when it's possible, or snag on a really cheap sale (knowing EA, like Ubi and Activision, such sales are rare).

So your review is "Didn't play it. 4/10."
