So what's up with the timeline bombing? Looked to me like she just sent reset charges out. All they do is reset the timeline and the TVA does it all the time. Seems like that shouldn't fuck with the timeline too hard.

Possible theory: She sent the charges back to intercept TVA agents before they could correct time line branches. By erasing them, she erases their fixes, which allows the time branches to grow unchecked. By doing it all at once, the TVA is unable to fix them all.

Cinematic universe where magic, gods, time travel, and cosmic powers that can rewrite existence

Yet people on this board fucking cry about made up hurricane categories lollllllllllllllllllllllllll

Didn't really care about the hurricane shit. What bothered me was a superstore in 20fucking50 that sells small flatscreen tvs and shit. Is it an antique store? Wtf. Nothing in the store looked any different than your local Walmart. If you're gonna be that lazy, how about shoot the scene somewhere else. Like, you can literally do it anywhere. But, no, gotta have that fight in the Electronics section for all that HyperX, Razer and DELL product placement.

Dude, obviously they would be sold out of all of the future stuff since scalpers raid the new inventory online the millisecond that it drops.

Well, considering that state feels like it is stuck in the past, not surprising their Walmart would also be

lol, what are the winds like in a cat 8 hurricane? 500mph? 700mph? is anything going to be standing in a storm like that?
the giant storms on Jupiter only get up to 350mph.
iu

Why would it suddenly go that high?

Cat 1: 74-95 mph
Cat 2: 96-110 mph
Cat 3: 111-129 mph
Cat 4: 130-156 mph
Cat 5: 157+ mph

Forgetting the fact the categories jump all over the place from a range of 21, to 14, to 18, to 26...even assuming just +25 mph jumps, you'd call Cat 5's 157-182, Cat 6 183-208, Cat 7 209-234, Cat 8 235-260.

Think the highest sustained winds ever record in a hurricane currently were Patricia a few years ago? Like ~200 mph? So you're talking only 35 mph stronger than that? Maybe less if there were more wonky sub 25 mph category jumps?

I was expecting most of this... in the finale. I have no idea where we go from here.

So blind speculation time: Kang _is_ one of the Time Keepers, but wants to rule for himself. Ravonna is working with him (mirroring the comics), and 'Lady Loki' is working for Ravonna (the other analyst that picked up all the trinkets for her). Richard E Grant will turn out to be Old Loki, who rules Earth in the timeline Kang and Ravonna create by destroying the TVA, who has backstabbed his way into solitude enough that this Loki changes his ways as a result.

And yes, the Roxxcart scene was just terrible. Set it in 2025, not after 30 years of technological advancement... has resulted in the only differences being a hologram at the entrance and animated name tags.

We say this, but would it shock anyone if Walmart in 29 years doesn't even have the hologram or animated name tags?

shouldn't be that hard. instead of a name tag, you get a small tft touch screen, with as small a cpu/ram possible in a tiny case with a rechargable battery that will last ~24 hrs or so.

next to the time clock is the "rack" of the tags for the employees. you "punch in" the clock sends your digital id # to one of the "name tags" it lights up from the recharger with your name and dept you work in and under the name scrolls whatever ads etc the employer wants. employee tags tag, pins on shirt..works shift, shift ends. employee plugs tag back in, checks out.

low price 2.4" rpg tft resistive touch screens are ~16 bucks each even cheaper would be led name tags, at less than 2 bucks each.

Think Typhoons get even stronger. The rub w/ the category stuff is it isn't actually a measurement of windspeed - even if that's what it looks like. It's actually a measurement of potential damage (caused by windspeed) and iirc efforts to adopt a Cat 6 after large storms are often rebuffed as unnecessary because after 157+ destruction is total, there's no reason to measure beyond 'everything is gone'.

That being said, technology hardening structures against hurricanes continuing to improve could warrant adjustments to the scale.

I think Typhoons in the Western Pacific have set the low pressure record, but it was the one hurricane Patricia in the Eastern Pacific that set the wind record with 200-215 mph winds depending on how they were measured

To give Chuk some credit for once, people tend to conflate the max wind speed of hurricanes with the max wind speed of tornadoes, large tornadoes achieve much higher wind speeds but they last a far shorter time and are much less stable than a tropical cyclone.

The reason we stop at Category 5 is because the categories are more about the destruction caused, with sustained 157+ mph winds resulting in pretty much total destruction. There is talk about creating a Category 6 every time we get another Irma or Dorian, but what is the point exactly? Dorian utterly obliterated the Abacos and Grand Bahama, but it would have done the same damage if it's sustained winds were 20 mph lower. There's zero point in creating a Category 6, let alone 7 or 8. It's the same trash tier writing as giving US Agent 3 Medals of Honor, because the writers have no fucking clue what they're writing about and wanted a big number. Category 6 doesn't sound dramatic enough, let's make it Category 8! Except Earth's climate is barely capable of producing hurricanes that could be called Category 6, so the idea of a Category 6 is completely ridiculous.

And that's what I was complaining about, not the made up hurricane category specifically (although that is dumb) but their ideological need to cram climate change bullshit into the show. Why haven't Shuri and Riri solved climate change by 2050 considering Shuri's vast intellect utterly dwarfs that of Bruce Banner and Tony Stark working together, and Riri Williams will probably be the same?

To be honest, conflating max wind speed of hurricanes and tornados is basically on the same level as writing about "Cat 8" storms and "Triple Medal of Honor Winners"...the difference is the writing is for a completely over the top fictional universe.

what a stupid post.

Shuri and Riri obviously have solved anything because they are both Black women. Clearly White supremacy and the Patriarchy are stopping them. you can't expect the smartest and strongest people in the world to do anything versus Kevin in middle management and the glass ceiling.

What if there are hurricane proof buildings in that timeline in 2040 that can withstand winds up to 300mph?! I think we should argue real life hurricane categories and technology for sure. Especially in a show revolving entirely around time travel.

As interesting as sciencing up cat 8 hurricanes is my point was more that it was a pretty dumb line and took me out of it for a minute.
