Expect an unneccesarily long cameo by Russell Crowe, a grim-dark emo superman, and boring marathon fight scenes with random loud noises to wake you up.

Also,

Super Man murders a guy.
That may have been my only problem with the movie. I give comic book movies a heavier dose of disbelief suspension than most movies, and approaching Man of Steel with that mindset allowed me to enjoy it quite a bit -but,
killing a dude is something Superman never does, ever.

I guess they're reinventing the character in a lot of ways, so that could be a new "thing" for him. Will he ever kill a human villain, or is Zod special because he's Kryptonian? Maybe it's just because he's new at this whole super-hero thing, and, going forward, he swears to himself that he will never kill again?

Well, I saw it as him choosing to be the protector of earth (and humanity) over being a Kryptonian. To prove his loyalty he killed the only other kryptonian (as far as we know), so it's a pretty tough moment for him...He did his Noooo scream like 3 times, though he's much better than Anakin/Darth at Noooooooos.

Was majorly disappointed. The trailers were way better.

Visually, the amazingly long fight scenes were cool and did major damage, but got boring after seeing the exact same thing over and over for over two hours. The story could only be carried by "assistant" dialogues, i.e. "What's going on here?" <someone credible explains the history of what's going on and what needs to be done to rectify it>, and they weren't even subtle about it. I think this is what turned me off form the movie the most.

Other than that the effects and choreography were good, aside form the length of the fight scenes.

I loved this movie. Easily a 9/10. For me, it's tied for third best super hero movie with Iron Man, but behind X-men 1 and The Dark Knight. Snyder can shoot amazing action sequences, damn the fight sequences are fun explosion porn. I love Michael Shannon and I loved his Zod. Have to hand it to Zod, he fought after the battle was over, until the end. He didn't feel evil; just doing what was best for his tribe. I think my favorite character was Zod's lieutenant. There were no snappy quips which was lack luster.

Hopefully the sequel follows the pattern with The Dark Knight and the protagonist is moreso the villain than Batman/Super Man.

Some of the product placement was a little jarring. I think we saw IHOP 4 or 5 times and then an extended fight sequence in front of and inside Sears.

I think the next film needs to introduce Lex but not in anything close to an overt villain capacity. Have an intro bump that features Toyman and one of his giant robots attacking metropolis to show that action has been going on this whole time while the movie-viewer was away. Supes takes him down before the bump and we lead into the rest of the film that features Brainiac. By the end of the film we learn that Lex was bankrolling Toyman in an effort to test and monitor Superman and has seized what is left of Brainiacs tech and is now REALLY pissed at aliens invading earth and sees himself as the only human who can protect humanity. Call the filmLast Son of Kryptonas it ties into Brainiacs collecting fetish and can revisit Clark's sense of isolation. At the end of the film you tease the existence of another Kryptonian on the planet: Kara Zor El.

Then you can have Justice League which pretty much has to involve Darkseid after which Lex is completely off his rocker when it comes time for the third movie titledMan of Tomorrow, which is oft used as a reference to Superman but in this case has the double meaning of Lex as the architect of Metropolis the City of Tomorrow as well as how he sees himself.

Well to be fair, there's pretty much an IHOP on every street in every town these days. So if you're going to have an event take place on "a street in some town" there's a good chance there would really be an IHOP there.

Loved the movie, 9/10. Not at the same level as the Dark Knight, but easily better than IM2 or 3. 57% rotten tomatoes score is absolutely ridiculous.

It tried to do a lot and succeeded at pretty much everything. It managed to pack more of Krypton than any other movie, as well as his growing up, learning his powers and then fighting general Zod. Zod was given plenty of motivation for what he was doing and didn't feel like just a cartoon evil man, Michael Shannon really nailed it. Henry Cavill and Amy Adams were great and really fit the part.

Ignore the silly reviews complaining he didn't channel Christopher Reeve or that there was too much action. Man it was refreshing to see a movie that wasn't scared to show the amount of collateral damage a fight between Superman and someone of his power would do to a city.

This movie was fucking sweet. It was basically Independence Daytrix 5, Superdudes Edition.

PS: Michael Fucking Shannon should be the villain in every movie.

This. I felt like I was watching a live action version of the JLU series finale fight between Superman and Darkseid, or either one of the two fights from the Doomsday movie. I was also surprised at how little the origin stuff annoyed me. I went in prepared to be bored to tears for the first third or half of the movie, but it pulled me in pretty quickly. Zod was fucking fantastic.

During one of the fights scenes, they were slammed through some tanker-trucks clearly painted with Lexcorp logo. There may have been more of them, but that's the one I caught.

I don't think anybody with eyes could miss it.

Although I will say that I loved

During the final fight scene, I don't know if this was intentional or not, but they mimicked the scene from Superman Doomsday when Superman and Doomsday are trading punches while trailing flames from re-entry just before Superman kills him. I thought if they set it up differently it would have been a great way to end the Zod fight too, although the way they did set it up was great. If I were directing that scene, I would have had him kill Zod by blasting him in the back of his head with his heat vision, a broken neck was way too sterile and clean for as dark and gritty as the movie was. If he could shove his head over to one side in order to snap it back over to the other side, he could have just muscled him away to protect those people.

I saw that too and thought how cool is that, for some reason made me smile to see that logo.

Am not sure why you people expect a deeper, more intellectual movie this was a summer blockbuster that was above par for summer blockbusters.
In fact let me redact part of my last statement, the movie was IMO well thought out. I enjoyed how they introduced his pass and how they explained his wanting to be secluded. For me the movie was a big action budget summer film, what I got was a a massively large big budget film with a superior job done on CGI & a well thought out and well explained story of the pass & present. Not sure why so many expect this to be a oscar worthy drama.
