Marriage and the Power of Divorce

At the risk of derailing this into a crypto discussion I do have a question about using crypto as a wealth shelter during a divorce. Is it a legitimate legal strategy to hide your money in something like Monero during a divorce? Or would there be some sort of legal ramifications for doing so? I'm sure this is not something that has been dealt with on any meaningful scale in divorce courts yet.

I think that the issue would be that there is a paper trail involved.

It's totally doable but you would have to extract it out of the bank account via other means first. It's no different than buying a car with the joint banking account, selling it the next day for cash, and then putting the cash under a mattress as far as strategies go.

If you just buy a bunch of Monero with your bank account or credit card it's a paper trail and that can be brought up in a court. Right?

I think the idea behind Monero specifically is that there is no trail. I've never actually bought a crypto currency but I believe Monero in particular is very "discreet" and is favored by the less savory types for criminal transactions. There would be a record of you removing the money from your existing fiat accounts though of course which is probably all a lawyer would really need.

Once in Monero (or any of these others) the trail goes cold. Getting the Monero in the first place is the trail that the lawyers are concerned about.

You need a convincing vehicle to turn the bank account value into something else entirely that can be written off as a loss that you roll into Monero or whatever afterwards.

Of course it all depends on the amount of money they are trying to hide but upwards of $10k+ are probably going to involve some legal fraud to get it moved. Cars bought and then "stolen" kind of things or working with a guy at the dealership to flip it back for a cut.

It's all pretty interesting to think about how you might do it.

So, wife told me on thanks givign she wants a divorce, bit shocked, no idea what to do, anyone able to give me pointers on how to deal?

I will also state that the first thing you should do is get a lawyer. Now without knowing details as has been mentioned get a handle on money/credit cards any finances that your partner could run up or take leaving you empty handed. Even if it’s an amicable situation record as much information as you can, keep emails, texts, voice messages anything that references your relationship with her as you never know if/when it could get ugly.

Keep in mind this advice you are getting from the board comes from a place of cold hard logic from people without any emotional involvement. You will cloud your own judgement with emotion but try and follow the advice given.

Get a lawyer.

Preferably a female one. You want one who is a pit bull and gets shit done. Read reviews and then pony up some cash.

Fraudulent transfers are a crime and filing court papers concealing them is another crime. Whether people actually get prosecuted for this is debatable but these are actual crimes.

As a practical matter... Start pulling out a few thousand a weekend for "gambling" and go to the casino... buy chips in small enough quantities to avoid showing ID, claim losses.

Park the cash in a decent spot, profit. nothing to do with crypto. Crypto would be great for hiding *transactions* between willing participants (which is why its convenient to buy drugs with crypto) but actually getting your money into crypto can be tracked.

For divorce purposes just "spend" your money without spending it, and then hide it.

I don't know when the right time to break that type of news is, but Thanksgiving and when you're nutting in her butt are definitely the wrong time.

Lawyer. Unless you're looking for emotional support.

When you're nutting in her butt is probably the perfect time, tbh. Hit you with it at that exact moment.

There may not ever be a good time but It seems like that would be the best possible time to recieve that particular bit of news.

Noodle makes a good point. I mean how can we tell if the surgery was a success or not if we don't have some befores to compare? The more pictures and from different angels the better we can make suggestions. Purely for research purposes though.

So this didn't happen to me, but I found it kind of funny. One of my friends has two kids and a pregnant wife. So, on Friday he got into a huge fight with his wife. The reason? She had a dream where he had 3 side girls. To which he said, "Hell yeah! Were they cute?" This was apparently not the appropriate answer and she got super pissed about it. Nevermind the dude has no time to do this and obviously wasn't actually cheating or anything. His wife was home schooled super religious and he is a jokester type so he told her shit like, "come on, didn't you learn never divorce, one husband for one life and so on?" So it apparently got really heated.

He ended up staying on my couch Friday and we drank beers until she stopped being a bitch about it on Saturday morning.

It gets better. He's a borderline coonass software developer from well below I-10 in Louisiana and loves typical Louisiana shit like crawfish, gumbo and all that crap. She hates seafood, all seafood, and spicy stuff.

So what happened the one time you didn't nut?
We finally just realized it wasn’t going to happen and went to sleep.

We had been playing strip Settlers of Catan while drinking heavily. There was hours of Rock Band where the top scoring person at the end of a song had to take a shot. The next morning we were going to a funeral for a very important person in my life. The day after I was flying back to Iraq.

There were a lot of moving parts preventing that finish.
