You're right. It's easy for me to say now, I'll agree to that statement
I mean, we do something in the middle. Our kids had a set of rules laid out for them. Including having to give up passwords to and and all Social Media if we ever requested it. However, it laid out a set of circumstance and guidelines as to why we might do that; so they feel secure in knowing we aren't doing it "just cuz"

Have video running the first time you ask for those passwords please. I bet you'll find out you raised some tiny lawyers.

If they have half a brain they set up dummy accounts for mom and dad.

If they're smart enough to trick you like that they'll probably fit right in!

You think a basic web filter will keep the porn at bay?
lulz all kids these days just watch pornhub on their phone, it's the main reason why family dataplans are always max'd out on GB's

there's a reason why boys ask for android phones over ios now

The best education in tech is what you learn yourself to overcome the restrictions of the authorities in your life.

I learned 95% of my important computing/IT figuring out how to play online Doom on the school's computer labs.

So am I the only one on this side of the fence? I'm pretty curious, and not trying to be argumentative about it
You are not the only one. My son use snap chat frequently. Its basically how kids coordinate for a soccer game or tennis match.

I'm kinda curious here what the reaction would be if people here found their kids watching porn on the internet.

I don't care if my kids watch porn on the internet.

I care when they put themselves out there to be porn for others.

Yeah man, same here .

Still happened, cause he was a kid, and kids do dumb shit sometimes. I’m all for mistakes, but not those kinds of mistakes.

I don't see a way to keep a teenager from porn short of total fascism. The hormones will find a way.

I'd be much more concerned about the restrictions I impose pushing him to activities/sites/distribution that are illegal(ish) and might get me sued or service cut by the ISP. My internet sex ed course is going to focus more on the mechanics and legalities of torrenting and the DMCA as much as how not to fuck up his exceptions and separate fantasy from his interactions with real women.

If real or virtual sex becomes a problem I could always do what a friend did for his four sons (all 13-17, fuck me, what a nightmare) and take the doors off their bedrooms.

The only interaction my children will be having with the Internet is reading through a binder of printed out copies of all my posts on this site. They'll learn all they need to know.

As far as porn goes. I have found both my son and daughter going to pornhub. I wasn't panicked and it definitely isn't the end of the world by any means. My wife who has a low libido and lived in a house that was 3/4 female, does not understand the male sex drive. Now she is married to a man whose sex drive is in the stratosphere, even compared to men, and she lives with two children who have my DNA. So when she found out it was catastrophic. However I didn't take moves to just appease her. It's not the porn in of itself that concerns me. It's the absolute unfettered access and the near limitless amount of it. I have seen discussions on porn addiction and studies in those discussions about how it is really impacting the younger generations. So my objective isn't to eliminate it but to at least put up some road blocks to getting it. I'm hoping that and some candid discussions about what porn is compared to real sex will help my son from having dead dick and need to wrap it in sandpaper so he feels something.

Going back to social media. I did not just up and tell the kids "you aren't using it because I said so.". What prompted this and what I used as illustration was the Covington incident. The politics of it was irrelevant. I just showed them the hostile tweets about them and told them this is what happens when you capture something on social media that the world can see. The more that time goes by and the more I read from other parents, I may go the route of allowing it as long as I have the password. That is sounding like a good compromise.

It would be weird if my son doesn't look at porn. I have failed only if I don't teach him how to not pay for it.

And it's easy for me to judge a differing view point, which I won't do, so please do not take my posts as such. My only goal was to offer my perspective and that was it. If you continue on this path, and I on mine. If this board is still around and survives another meltdown of the admins, we can compare notes in 10-15 years. For science.

I had a conversation with an old high school friend about this. If it weren't for the allure of Hacking/Phreaking/Anarchy/Warez/Viruses/Crackz, neither of us (or a lot of other people) would have become even half as interested in computers and tech skills as we are today. He said he has a hard time showing his sons that pirating is as much about the process and capability as anything else. It's like being Spiderman, with great power comes great responsibility.

Do you think some guidance is needed for Pornhub? What I mean is, in 2 minutes of browsing pornhub, you can come across a lot of stuff that starts to stray from simple sexual porn--like all the faux-incest 'step" porn or the slut shaming/abuse porn. I'm wondering how that registers with kids.
