I'll happily watch this movie on video. If the theater would let me sit there without wearing a mask, I'd consider going to the theaters just to go, but I know that won't happen by December.

I read either one or two fantasy books as a kid where a BMP or something was teleported from a modern war into a fantasy setting and they fought the big bad guy and his army. This reeks of that a bit, but clearly Milla becomes a "Monster Hunter" with the weaponry and such.

Resident Evil movies are a bit of background guilty pleasure watches for me, but this is going to be pandering trash trying to cash in on a vidya game.

The female leads in the RE series made for some good eye candy and the overtone of sexual innuendo in the way the dialogue is delivered gave it some background rewatch value.

if they come on I won't shut them off. They don't seem to annoy me.

rofl, i own (or owned)those books.....i am going to have to go search thru the library to see if i still have them. been at least 30 year since i read them.

ThIs is pretty much a live action GATE.

Somewhat recent-ish Anime where the JDF (Japanese Defense Force) goes through a portal that opens to a somewhat traditional fantasy land. They of course merc everything and basically just military their way through; it's great recruiting for the JDF. Pretty good overall though.

Like Rezz stated, it's pretty much a military "porn" where if a modern military force basically got stuck in a high fantasy world. The "bad" fantasy guys send an army of 60,000 armored soldiers and they all get mowed down by 50 cals/mortars/etc. It's pretty lul.

Although because it's basically a JDF recruiting tool, the US are assholes trying to force Japan to do things that align with their interests. And all the officers end up with waifus

So quick summary: A portal opens in downtown Tokyo. A bunch of fantasy realm army soliders/dragons and shit pour through and start attacking people in the city near the portal and take citizens as trophies/slaves. Japan gets pissed and sends the JDF as a response to combat the threat. The fantasy army in that Youtube clip are basically the dudes who attacked. The portal is stable (for now), so they can come and go between the realms. Japan sets up a FOB near the portal entrances so that they control the portal access and supply lines. You later find out the fantasy realm they are in has portals that open every few centuries or whatever to a different realm and the Empire that exists in the fantasy realm would usually go and try to conquer those realms or whatever, except this time instead of attacking some low tech backwater, they attack modern Earth. Modern Earth military is basically like an alien invasion to these guys, they have no concept of firearms or missiles or tanks or jets or whatever. Majority of the anime is basically schemes from the "evil" fantasy realm guys and them getting owned by professional modern military soldiers lol

Probably because Monster Hunter has nothing to do with people from parallel universes hah. Plus I don't think everyone wants the RE treatment for their IP.
