1. 90 silver for a fucking lantern is like your entire income from levels 1-4 (maybe more if you actually want to buy spells) and that can take a few hours of newbie yard killing if you’re unfamiliar with systems.
2. that level 8 wiz lightstone lasts like 10 fucking minutes before it’s burnt out.
3. fire beetles only exist in very lowbie areas and again, the duration on those things is not long. So what’s the plan? Run back and farm one every night?
Nobody is trolling. The light source system is awful for the new player experience.

I told you, the plan is to swap a torch in and out of your off hand when needed. Use lightstones when you have them. Save up for a lantern. Easy solution. The night is supposed to be more dangerous. For as supposedly awful the new player experience is, there are quite a lot of players who are sticking with the game and giving it glowing praise in ooc and on discord.

I think the real solution is to just never play a race that needs a light source. Apparently Deep Elves 4 Ever?
I remember when I started EQ and people told me "Don't roll a Dark elf they have xp penalties" and then I listened to a friend who was playing a Barb complaining about not being able to see shit at night. Yeah... I'll deal with whatever penalties ya need to avoid basic QOL stuff that eventually will get fixed with itemization. F starting as a character that can't see reliably in the dark. That's like at least 40% of in-game time.
