There’s been a ton of claims in this thread on how successful or unsuccessful this game will be I’m just curious if we will ever have an actual answer

I already know poopsockquest isn’t for me in 2026 don’t need the internet to tell me that

Success is somewhat a subjective standard in the mmo industry. There a some who claim that if you don't beat WoW your game is a failure. That's a pathetic metric from pathetic people.

Then there are games like EQ still chugging along, making money, and with a bare bones team of devs. I haven't played EQ in almost a decade, but the fact that they are still here and engaging players I would consider a success, even I'm not interested in playing it in it's current form.

Then there are games like New World, or City of Heroes, that made money and were popular, but they didn't make ENOUGH money for their corporate overlords and were cancelled. Were they a success? or failure? Depends on your viewpoint.

If M&M keeps the team size manageable while not overextending itself with frivolous expenses and feature creep, then they can be finacially successful even it the player count is a tiny fraction of WoW's. Of course most of the posters here and elsewhere will scream it failed even if M&M is still around 20 years from now. That's just the way most people are. They claim everything is a failure.

Not sure what this rambling was in response to, there’s been specific claims about how many subs this game will or will not have and I’m just curious if they plan to release them

They are going to have a no box server, which is where I’ll be playing. Don’t want to deal with the tucos of the world locking down raid mobs with their 24 subs. Now , whether they can actually police the servers for boxers is anyone’s guess

Hopefully you can just report boxes and they vanish randomly. Now do they have the stones to ban them

This is a mistake.

Either they can successfully prevent people from boxing in which case you picked the dead server on a grouping required game, gg no re and 6 months post launch you'll be begging them to merge or offer character transfers to the box server.

Or they can't successfully prevent people from boxing in which case same as above except people who do box can at least progress and your stuck with the same options above or even giving in and boxing yourself to actually play the game hoping that some bitter jaded "purist" player doesn't report you

I know you're being facetious but I would never box more than a group in any game. I can totally understand why people would want a no-boxing server though. It feels pretty bad to look for a group in a zone that's got several hyper-capable box crews dominating the best hunting spots that want nothing to do with you.

It’ll be interesting for sure I think most of those chrono lords on TLP servers use RMT/Chronos to pay their accounts if that isn’t an option here will they still be willing to cut $70/mo out of the pizza roll fund?

Maybe they don’t ban them, they just log in one day and all their characters have been transferred to the box server lol

edit: add an XYZ to the end of their character names on transfer to permanently brand them as menaces to society on their new server

Nick said cryptically once that he defines no-boxing as ‘one account per machine’ which made me wonder if they’d be ok with people boxing an extra char on the no box server if they were doing it on different pcs. People playing one extra character, which could happen if a crucial support is missing or a friend is falling behind , is to me far different than someone boxing an entire group or more, so I wonder if that’s why he made the distinction, but again not sure they’d be able to tell.

Its no offense to the boxers out there... my old man boxes two to three on EQ to this day but I hope people will give the community a chance to develop before they just roll up a bot group and chip away at the social aspect of the game. That was the best piece of early EQ in my opinion and while that time may be gone I truly think it will hurt the game if folks are sitting around looking for groups and feel unneeded. I worry about rolling up on a no-box just because I think the population will be a little less long term but I just hope folks will keep it in check and not take over the server on a server that allows boxing.

I’ve wondered the same, because I’ve considered running two accounts so that I can duo alts on my own when my buddies aren’t around. I remember Shawn saying in a stream one time “you might want to think twice about logging on you brothers wizard for a portal,” or something like that. I would imagine there’s easy enough ways to find people boxing if you’re truly determined to prevent it.
