They use a rev share model I believe so there would be expectations of future revenue, especially for a founderJob? I thought these guys were all "volunteers"?
Only thing I'm seeing is people having compassion for a person that lost their job and likely a future revenue stream they relied on.
Damn double cucked obviously not gonna jump ship when a game loses one guy. For the love of the game
That's not a guy they shoulda lost. I have my principles.
Edit: and people stabbing him for how evenly he worked on developing classes so early into things wth, some of those things are done a class at a time - "your class" (WUT) might not have been the next or the next next
Conceptually it's fairly simple but there is a bit of plumbing that makes this harder during early dev. Like perhaps you want an aura for a class, but don't have the code for auras yet so that gets set aside. Want lifetaps? Better have code in place to have actual damage number report into a healing recourse so they match. Want archery skills? Do you have hooks in your range attack system to facilitate that, or did you just write it for melee and gotta go refactor? How about animations and visual effects? Maybe the ability is made but it's missing juice required to go into live client. Just examples, I'm aware they've already got all of this working.I feel like class kits should have been 99% determined months ago, especially considering the foundational existence of EQ, WoW and Vanguard that they’re pulling from. Hell, i could probably crank something fun and cohesive out in a couple weeks that would just require tinkering with the final values based on actual gameplay conditions.
The fact that they were still conceiving/creating abilities and making major changes as of last week is baffling to me.
i know Ali was involved in class design from behind the scenes. Maybe there was disagreement that stifled progress.

None of it is hard individually but it adds up to time and fragmentation of ideas. So you end up with a kind of hodgepodge like it is currently.
Now could you come in at this point and make something coherent? Yea probably I bet they've got the majority of that sort of thing nailed down now, but I think I'm probably pretty close to why things look how they do at the moment. Probably need exactly what you're suggesting a completely fresh look and realignment of design.
Hey guys, thanks for the kind words, and for all of the support over the years.
I won't be able to answer any questions or make any clarifications, but I just wanted to let you know that I've been reading here since the beginning, and I've appreciated all of the feedback, good and bad.
I hope that you guys will continue to enjoy Monsters & Memories.
Thanks again,
-Nick

Ideally sure, but they've been building the car as it's been driving. Also I suspect no development is that linear, you build test, tweak, repeat. What you write down on paper probably on vaguely resembles the end result. The way it feels and interacts with other systems is going to change the approach. My 2cShouldn’t it be… you conceive the kits based on the gameplay experiences and class interactions you want, and then hand it off to coders to be executed? We’re not talking about revolutionary stuff that hasn’t been done before. It all exists in many examples of MMORPGs.
Just make an alt account and stick around to trash talk future games!Hey guys, thank you for the kind words, and for all of the support over the years.

He's confirmed that himself yeaWhile he seemed like (is?) a really nice guy, after my interactions with him, I came away feeling that there was a potential rage or seething boiling under the surface, just out of sight.

Shawn did a stream today giving us an update regarding current events, and there were some nuggets of information that provide some clarity. I thought I'd recap it for anyone who didn't get to catch the stream. The stream lasts for a little over an hour, and mostly went over the recent situation with Nick, but touched on a few other topics as well. Here is the link to the VoD incase anyone wants to reference.
The first roughly 25 minutes are pretty much spent waiting for people to come into the stream. Not much is stated in this time regarding the situation, other than he felt that another text update did not feel appropriate so he decided to stream.
About 25 minutes in Shawn starts discussing the origins of the project, recommends anyone who is curious to go to the YouTube channel are sort the videos from oldest to newest.
30 minutes in Shawn states that while he would like to be as transparent about this situation as they have about everything else, there are details that he simply cannot discuss. He does clarify that Nick is no longer part of the development team, but is still part of the company itself.
Shawn then states that the reason why he is being so careful about what he's saying is because the terms by which Nick will be involved with the game/company are still actively being discussed.
33 minutes in, Shawn states that there is a 4th partial owner of the company, who is an environmental artist and is also a lawyer. He mentioned that this 4th owner has the smallest stake in the company and was approved by all 3 owners at the time. To my knowledge this is the first time this individual has ever been mentioned, and they went unnamed throughout the entirety of the stream.
Around 37 minutes Shawn starts to go over the team size, notes that everyone on the project works very hard on the game, and goes over the amount of team members who are first in line for assistance/employment once the company starts bringing in money. He mentions that the entire budget for the game so far has come out of his own savings, as well as some portion being covered by Ali. Nick is not mentioned here.
Through the next 10 minutes or so he reiterates that the team cannot give specific details about the situation other than what has already been mentioned. He then goes over team size, stating that they're a 40 person team, and goes over how many team members there are per role in development, and how many are looking to come into EA as full time, part time, etc.
Around 50 minutes in he reaffirmed that the June date is firm so that the people who need to start being paid for their work can begin to do so.
1 hour in Shawn is asked who will take over the class design work now that Nick is gone. He states that there are several team members other than Nick who have been working on class design work and number crunching, and states that a few of those devs will step more into that role to take over Nick's previous responsibilities. He also mentions that Ali is a good designer, and that Ali and himself were and still currently are the designers of the game.
Finally at 1 hour 6 minutes, Shawn recaps the stream, saying that Nick is not part of the development team anymore, and interestingly states that Nick is still a part owner at this time, while the details are hashed out.
Overall, while there is some clarity to be had from this update, we still don't know the exact reason why Nick is no longer part of the dev team. From what it appears though, it seems like some of the popular theories for Nick's departure are dispelled for now if all is to be believed.
