The devs have literally stated that their intended “dark night” did not function properly on large amounts of physical hardware.. What would your ideal outcome have been, tell everyone to go out and purchase new hardware to play this game? Or maybe have the devs fix their coding?

Same suggestion: separate care bear server

Rotated mobs, raiding rulebooks, easy to see night time etc

Then have the big dawgs classic server

Id replace my monitor or whatever for it and not insist everyone else has to suffer because of me

There's an underlying agenda, I assure you pal

So played over the weekend, mostly a SK. But did try some of the new classes (not long).

Probably will play this when it releases. Playing a shadowknight in a new world, was fun. And they definitely have that old school EQ vibe figured out. But what may end up killing my long term play is the graphics.

The long distance vistas, especially at night, are amazing. Kudos to whoever does the lighting. And I'm sure those long distance views are a big reason for the low poly graphics. But the low poly character, buildings, etc are a turn off.

But I want to play a real shadowknight again in a new setting, so they get me for a few months at least.

You'd think people who want basically the opposite of what's intended wouldn't be listened to. My experience observing lobbyquest has been one startling revelation after another of devs who fear some out of left field audience spreading hate for something on Reddit. I guess if my own money was on the line and I didn't know this, it would make me very uneasy. But I've seen what they do instead of their threats like removing in game maps and target rings. They keep playing, bitching and trying to crocodile tears their way into freebies otherwise. I hate to say they usually win in the end and then no one is happy, even them. Nick got a front row seat on P99. Great.

People love a fresh rollup when the population stagnates which is something for them to keep in mind too, esp if it offers a ruleset shake up or some kind of pvp addition.

The smart move they did that Pantheon also did was a less moderated island for the rabids who want to tear each other to ribbons and literally don't want GM involvement (at least they say they don't, so give them that and stick to it). This should always exist to as a kind of MMR separation between the adult kindergartners and big dawgs. Most of them know who they are by this point. You can tell from reading here.

Detractors can say whatever they want, like I'm trying to force people to endure the same grief as us enthusiasts but once again you can see me suggesting nothing like that.

Removing dark night time "cuz it broke my pooter" literally happened like I predicted. Literally insane to witness it being taken seriously. Those are the kinds of things you don't wanna budge on, but servers that have rulebooks for raiding vs the neckbeard fest... those are considerable.

Shawn talked about this a little bit ago, like 2 streams ago.. but I think the lowpoly is staying. They'll eventually allow for lowering the view distance for the lower end pc's; supposedly. Personally, I love it.. I just feel the sorta emptiness is what I find bad? but once all the houses start fleshing out, for sale signs and owner signs arent white jpgs with text and some personality gets put in.. the lowpoly will fade into the background.. because imo the concept art translated to in-game is phenomenally well done.. and I really like their concept art.

While I never got a solid answer, I think there may be texture and some model passes.. EWS and KB looks far newer than most of NH.. So I do think there is a sorta, go back with what we learn and adjust.. but I don't actually know.. just that it won't go too far away from what exists already.

I don't know if this relates, nor did I play EQ; they added a graphic to root.. it use to be EQ mustard sprites, but now its mustard sprites into abunch of vines at their feet.. and it looks good imo. So I just see that happening more over time.

Are you a big dawg Nirgon Nirgon ?

Is a "classic" server not a thing these days? Didn't WoW make a shit load of money for Blizzard recently by turning back the dial? It's literally another draw to the game and to another whole audience which would fill up a server like that (at least) and fit just fine.

Id be surprised if more people didn't go for this server than the other.

Turn it into a ruleset instead. Bonus points for referring to it as the classic big dawgs ruleset server.

Make the pvp version of it have single item loot (not weapons, spell books or no drops) too.

Now no one can hate on it, and I don't think it's a huge toggle for a ruleset per se compared to something like logic for teams or guild wars or whatever.

An update on classes was posted earler.

With the Open Beta Playtest behind us, we wanted to take a minute to update you on the state of classes and problems we’ll be addressing, our approach to completing them, and what to expect as we move toward that goal.

When we say “completing them”, we mean a strong theme and “full kit” with abilities to look forward to all the way to 60. As a live game, we expect to add, balance, and refine our classes, so they’re likely to see ongoing adjustment in the future.

The first stage is identifying overarching issues affecting all classes, areas that could use a stronger unifying theme, and noting class specific issues raised by the community and team.

With that information, we are nailing down the theme (or ‘class identity’), role and DPS tiering relative to other classes. We’re refining the primary mechanics, progression beats, and new abilities for all of the classes. With continued testing and player feedback, we’ll also refine how classes should stack up against each other for dps, tanking, healing, and other utility so every class has a valuable role in many situations.

While we’re certain to add and update some abilities, in some cases this will result in removing abilities that don’t fit or just aren’t playing out the way we imagined in-game. Some classes may change more than others, but all classes will be examined and updated to some degree. We’d like to make sure each class feels familiar to the themes of Classic MMOs, but also more unique to Monsters and Memories.

As we're considering many things, you won’t see much in the way of piecemeal additions appearing in-game. We’ll be working in batches, likely by role, and revealing the designs, major changes, and important fixes to abilities or systems before they hit the patch server to give you a chance to absorb, consider, and discuss these changes.

We’re working quickly to complete these designs, and get this information out as soon as possible before implementing these changes, so that you can digest and provide feedback.

Our hope is to help you make a more informed decision on your first class for Early Access.

With the tight timeline before EA, implementation on these changes will be continuing through the remainder of beta and no doubt into EA itself. Hopefully, sharing these designs and updating the website class descriptions will limit the amount of surprises you get regarding the upcoming class work.
