Was reading reddit a bit and saw a post that Shawn commented on. He says the people who are level 50-60 right now have a /played time of about 450 hours. That's 150 days of 3 hour sessions. Really not too bad at all. If you play every day that means they get $75 dollars in sub money out of you minimum, which I think sounds fair. I'd prefer closer to 120 days, but meh. Hopefully the changes they're making for longer TTKs also come with increased xp per MOB.

Interesting tidbit too - about 300 people of the 9200 beta accounts are over level 50+. No way to know when those folks actually gained beta access, but only 3% of players being at or near max 65 days post launch is not something I'd have predicted.
Hey, that's 3% of people who will convert into paying subs. Totally going to be a financially viable product.

To be fair what % of people are going to spend 150+ hours on a character that is going to wipe, and until recently was expected to wipe June 1st?

They will not be wiping the beta characters. They will come back at some point as playable, in what capacity I don't know yet. With that being said, I fully expect a forced restart to test the new class changes. How this will be handled is anyone's guess.

True. The threat of a wipe kills enthusiasm pretty thoroughly. Pantheon was fucking retarded with that as well. If you are going to wipe do it quickly.

I both do and do not understand why the “threat of a wipe” kills enthusiasm for playing… I mean to me is the game fun or is it not fun? If it is fun why would you not play it? Tbh I’m more likely to play in beta when it’s free than when it’s $15 a month or whatever

The idea that people don’t want to “invest” their time into a character until the character is permanent seems to me to imply that the actual act of playing the game itself isn’t the reward, which I do understand, but does not bode well IMO for longevity either

For me the biggest reason not to play is that the devs are retarded and decided to make Trolls their last race to implement

Persistent progress is the carrot of MMOs. Even in a beta people don't want their time to be treated lightly. A wipe is always destructive in that regards, so, you know. Wanting to play a game doesn't mean wanting to replay the n00b experience over and over. Not everyone is an incurable altoholic like me.

I think most of us still cling to the idea of a "forever" game. One that we can play for years and years. Unfortunately the reality is within a few months 95% of people will drop any game because they've all got flaws, and as said a million times in this thread, it's not the late 90's or early 2000's where you can overlook them and keep plugging away.

I thought I might play New World, or Lost Ark, or a dozen other games for years and years. They never last even an entire year (although I did apparently play Lost Ark for almost 900 hours, which seems insane to me, it's somehow my highest played game ever outside of Idle games and Black Desert where...most of it was afk).
