I was once again told by morons that, there is no lighting problem in OOC and to “go back to wow”?!? lol I haven’t been on wow in like a decade.
Sorry not sorry.. I hope that streamer guy logged on and was at midnight. Could not see anything and logged off. Then perhaps the devs would listen.
There is a cave, no “light sources” or even “glowing jizz” that seems all over AV - one half is “seeable” the other black abandon …
As you said.. it seems everything has a manual light setting, and its jacked up
As I said in beta, its on purpose its completely intentional and is a 400% wrong bad choice.
even in AV its like “we know everyone will have Ultravision… and we HAVE TO HAVE darkness, for immersion!!! so screw em make it black!”
First EQ char, and the one I kept on with.
- Create mage, figure STR and charisma were good stats. Has a staff and need to talk to people.... (didn't know DnD or any fantasy game really)
- Was human
- Zone in, press wrong button to type, hit trainer. Die
- Respawn at gates at freeport
- Start running around, dark everywhere, can't see shit.
Later on someone gave me some gem or whatnot that gave infravision or somesuch, was the most magical thing ever. I loved it. When WoW came around I remember asking in OOC "Why is everything fucking purple at night, where is the night!?"
That said, while I am actually in favor of "darkness", there is a balance to be had there. Human in EQ isn't what I would model the default setting to be, especially in the overworld. However, having the ability, at least in the lighting engine, to make dark caves and areas where you do need a lightsource is good. Elden Ring does it well. You're never blind running around in the open areas, but there are places that get close to pitch black without a direct light source. However, I think those zones/areas should be mitigated by torches, fires and the likes. Not by "infravision" or "ultravision" tied to races, so those races actually never get to experience those dark and scarier areas.
Going into a dungeon and suddenly falling in somewhere and it is pitch black (for all races) = scary if darkness is not the default of how the world really is. You go "OH NO! Everything is dark, this is bad. Where am I! I need some light!". That is good design.
"Making it it "Oh no.... It's night time again, time to adjust gamma" is just annoying.
