Taxi Driver was a snooze.
I really like that movie, but a lot of 70s movies in general are very slow paced compared to movies that have come later. The Deer Hunter is another one like that.

that movie was called a drama for a reason. if you wanted action from your dramas then you had to sit through all the drama parts. and there is some good action in it. the real highlight of that movie is the atmosphere. Taxi Driver is one of the most atmospheric movies ive ever seen.

Are you talking about the original movie or the source material? Cause the Arnold movie is a borderline comedy, even if that wasn't really their intention when they made it.
I'm talking about the source material. the Arnie flick really has no resemblance to the story. and yes thats a straight up comedy, its pretty intentional too.

This is gonna be a pretty epic bomb if they try to make it super serious like the source material.

The source material was pretty grounded as well. No special arena, etc. just a dude on the run.

Personally I liked the deadly arena/game show vibe thing they used in the 80s. Was like Ancient Rome gladiators but updated for a TV audience.Ya it was cheesy as fuck, but it was fun. “See Sub Zero, now just plain zero!”

They could update it for today still. Live streaming. Basically make it Twitch, but the streamers are trying to murder people while Twitch chat is being toxic as fuck. People donating to get the streamer to do specific executions or whatever. They could do ALOT with the concept. Basically make it a hybrid of the original story and the 80s movie

i dont think its possible to make this film the way it was written back then without redpilling the everliving fuck out of people. this was written when King wasnt a sellout hack and he could say shit that needed to be said. tagteaming Arbitrary Arbitrary because he can explain King better than me. Edgar Wright does comedy, so i doubt thats where he is gonna go with this. media and the government working together to smear people and destroy their lives in the name of TV entertainment? yeah its going to be tough not to rub people the wrong way. the wrong people. and they will NEVER recreate the ending of that novel. its simply never ever going to be filmed, let alone shown to an audience.

It was boring because it was predictable and the "atmosphere" was standard 70's decay and despair.

to each their own, but you can see Scorsese's world building in this movie. maybe parts of NYC was a shithole back then and still is a shithole now, but not all of it and he exaggerated the shithole aspect to make his atmosphere for a Travis Bickle to thrive in.

The problem with Deer Hunter is the 1st hour
Godamnit you don't need so much time and to be THAT slow to establish characters.

About 6 or 7 years ago, I tried rewatching Pirates! and it was not as good as I remembered as a kid. This was also around the time, as a kid, I had watched Amadeus a couple of times too. I guess I lumped Amadeus in with Pirates! as being cheesy because of the insane laugh and toilet humor. And I think the banana fucking the chicken scene of The Whoopee Boys also messed up my memory of Amadeus as well.

Anyways, I finally researched Amadeus and it’s definitely much better than I remember. Especially that I know more about Mozart now compared to the nothing I knew as a kid. I’m really not sure if it’s an under rated movie, but it sure as heck was for me until recently. I strongly suggest watching it if you haven’t.

**Edit Sorry, not Pirates! (That wasn’t too bad), but “The Pirate Movie” (that was bad.)

I would only watch your version if DrDisrespect is in the movie. As himself.

I think Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

The movie that launched Guy Ritchie's career and took him from unknown to directing Brad Pitt within 2 years is UNDERRATED? peak FOH stupidity

There's a pretty big disconnect between thinking a movie needs a bigger audience and a movie being underrated throughout this thread. Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels being only one of many.

The nines with Ryan Reynolds, while not a masterpiece I still loved the ending for whatever reason (maybe from my addiction to EverQuest/MMORPG back in the day I could relate). I would have never guessed what was really going on. I kept thinking it was going to be a thriller but nope
