Aether appears on multiple planes, in different forms, but is tied to the blind eternities. If I remember right, the aether on Mirrodin was readily corrupted by the Phyrexian Oil. The second set of Kaladesh is "Aether Revolt." Will be interesting to see if killing off two of the Eldrazi Titans has an effect on the Aether on various planes, since Ugin made sure to point out we don't actually know what purpose the Eldrazi serve in the "ecosystem" of the multiverse.

Maybe the Aether that powers Kaladesh's devices starts to run out without 2/3rds of the Titans converting Colored Mana=>Aether.

Getting Hearthstone flashbacks watching games instantly end on the back of an optimal Collected Company.
One of the locals calls it Casino Company.

You read the novels! NERD.
the short stories on their website.. but yes, I do

I don't see how the Eldrazi could have anything to do with Phyrexia without major retcons or just straight shitting on the only worthwhile story the game has ever told.

Yawgmoth/Thran -> Brother's War -> Tolaria/Bloodline Project -> Legacy/Weatherlight has absolutely no place for the Eldrazi to fit in. I'm sure the two concepts will show up in the same block at some point but there's no way they share any type of origin or history that would make sense.

Phyrexia the plane existed before Yawgmoth but as a "perfect" mechanical ecosystem. Phyrexians themselves originated from Yawgmoth whose story has already been told. There's not really a way to toss eldritch biological horrors into the mix even prior to the established lore. I miss Dominaria

Sure there is, the oil could have found its way into the blind eternities, infecting the otherwise neutral eldrazi and making them into what they are now. They might have been docile beings before being warped into their current incarnation. The oil creating the desire to feed on mana and warp worlds to their image.

Also, yawgmoth didn't totally 'create' the phyrexians. He adapted an existing plague/disease to slowly turn the Thran into what we think of as phyrexians. He was kind of a gene splicer that took the disease plus a few other things and combined everything into the phyrexians. Maybe that original disease mutated in some other way and that is related to the eldrazi.

I just don't think they would have called it 'Great Work' specifically if they weren't planning to tie them together somehow. It may, or may not, be a new development of the oil. This could just be some kind of offshoot thing. It doesn't have to fit into their old storyline. New Phyrexia was unrelated to Yawgmoth, it just showed what the oil can do when left on it's own.

Been busy and at work now but there was no disease. It was a degenerative sickness caused by exposure to powerstones (ie radiation). Lesions, deformities, etc. With the first generation of phyrexians there was also no gene splicing or anything fancy. Just literal grafting of biological or mechanical enhancements to a normal human/abhuman. Phyrexians as we know them weren't even a thing until some unknown point between Yawgmoth fleeing dominaria and the brothers war.

Think you skimmed my post and missed some words or the intent. I said he was 'kind of' a gene splicer, as an analogy. They absorbed the energy of another plane that caused mutations of the populace to make them stronger, faster, elongated limbs, etc.. Same end result, little bit different process to get there.

Radiation sickness is a disease, but this specific one, while originally caused by the radiation from the powerstones, could be spread via contact as well. Also, it just weakened the immune systems and caused other things to take over (similar to HIV). Plus, they refer to it as a disease (phthisis) in all of the stories.

White. Revised and 4th.
Eh, there were no dual lands in 4th. So if you have them and they have white borders, they are either Unlimited or Revised. Ie, possibly worth quite a lot more than you might have thought!

I don't play Magic, know anything about Magic, or really generally care about Magic; but these Alpha Investments videos are pretty great. I've watched almost all of them at this point.

Might as well get this one started back up here too.

So GenCon is next week. Who's going? I'll be there for vintage and legacy, playing Painter in one or both.

Unfortunately no GenCon for me this year, definitely going next year as they're rereleasing my old flame (Legend of the Five Rings) there.

I miss when they used to release From the Vault at GenCon, and you'd have to try to figure out what random weird criteria was required to get a copy that year. One year it was basically "don't be an asshole to a judge."

Just popped a foil Decimator of the Provinces. I really like Emerge but I can't figure out whether or not I like this card.

Had no idea L5R was coming back. Wonder if Sam Flegal is doing more art for it.

Amazing uber bomb in limited, not sure how much play it'll see in actual constructed. Maybe after collected company rotates?

GenCon is the only Con I'd ever really consider going to. Maybe next year.

You should. GenCon is a lot of fun.

As MTG goes, it isn't what it used to be. I'm headed to Eternal Weekend in October to get my real vintage fix, but there will be grinders for E Weekend byes at GenCon.

Also, St. Elmo's Steakhouse.

Hmmm L5R. Is it literally just a rerelease or is it a newer edition with some actual changes?

I'm just getting back into Magic because I hate having spare money in the bank apparently. It was mentioned on Rerolled about a certain guy's youtube channel where he basically lays out how people who don't play the game are absolutely controlling the card market and the cost of booster boxes. Was an interesting and mostly depressing watch.

L5R was always this weird niche game at gaming stores I frequented in the mid/late 90s. It looked cool but I could legitimately never find anyone (Redding, CA area) that actually played the damn thing. I picked up a couple of starters (I want to say Crane and Crab) and then like 10 boosters, and had some neat looking cards that looked like they would be cool to play. But in a decade of hanging out around card shops, I could never convince anyone to get into the game nor find anyone who played it. Very similar to my experience with the Warhammer 40k card game. I live in Santa Barbara now so maybe that will change, but it always struck me as odd.

I had a similar experience with RAGE. I had one friend who liked the game and he sucked me into it. I traded for a lot of cards, played for a few months. They're still sitting in the same box.

L5R always looked cool, but I had too many interests and not nearly enough money.

I still have a box of Jyhad sitting in my attic. The early shit before they realized maybe that wasn't the most appropriate name.
