Just started season 2, 4 (I think) episodes in. When the Asian woman was nude I looked at my wife, who looked back, nodded, and said, "I would."

I like the show, but I like what it does to my wife even more...

I'm really liking all the back stories on the other inmates. When the season started, I thought they were going to do a complete character replacement with her in a new prison, and that would have pissed me off. But the character development is awesome, and gives the potential for so many plot twists. Overall, this is a pretty great show.

I was really hoping that they were going to pull what everyone in The Walking Dead thread always says will make that show better and that Piper was getting transferred because they were working in more new characters at the original prison and phasing her out as the main character with either one of the new ones or one of the more established cast. Vee thing was just fucking lazy writing.

Michael Corleone Godfather moment with Red's son visiting her and flashback to Vee's escape where Red had it set up for her son and some Russian mob guys to be waiting outside of the drainage pipe, see that Red was in control the entire time and just setting up the downfall of her opponent by replaying history out again and acting weak. Homage to Shawshank and also set up next season for Red beginning to retake control of everything after all she learned about how just being nice didn't cut it this season. Could set up a nice arc with Crazy Eyes finally finding out what happened and stirring rivalries up again by helping the Puerto Rican women try to take things back after Red's rise to power. Vee crawled through a river of shit and came out shanked on the other side. It's trite as shit but so is the prison embezzling money through nonexistent and underfunded projects.

I enjoyed the season overall.

As far as Vee:

I figured when Healy went looking for her, she would've been found dead from suicide in the bathroom.

Then she escaped, and I was hoping for the same thing as you, Heriotze.

My only real complaint about this season was the last episode.

I have no idea why Piper asked for the transfer to be cancelled. Why wouldn't she have asked for a reduced sentence? I guess this is just a suspension of disbelief area, but that made no sense to me whatsoever.

I seriously despise these writers. I mean I have a deep hatred in my heart for them.

Piper is so contrived and awful. Almost all of the other characters (Vee is a bit eeeeeh) are nicely done.

It's not artistic that Piper is the worst stereotype in the show. It's not some deep social insight. It's just lazy. They -could- write a good series, S2E2 proves that. But every last episode that piper is in proves that they decide not to.

Gettin real tempted to just FF through piper scenes.

I thought the character development in this season was excellent. I thought how they got rid Vee felt a little too contrived but that was just a minor complaint.

Funny side note. I have a friend whose nickname has been Beercan for as long as I have known him (10+ years now). He got the nickname because he was dating this chick who bitched about how she hated going down on him because it hurt her jaw. When asked to elaborate she described it as trying to fit a "crooked beer can" into her mouth. It is always fun watching him tell people how he got that nickname when they hear us all calling him that.

I'm watching the episode where Piper applies for furlough.

What a selfish fucking crap face of a character she is. I like the show, and I even like how she gets developed from a character you're supposed to like to this, but man, I just want to slap her at this point.

Well...
After she hears stories from other inmates about how they couldn't get furlough for way worse stuff she tries to get him to give her furlough to someone else

Also not entirely sure how trying to get furlough to see your dying granny makes you a selfish crap face.

I dislike Piper as a person, but some of you take it to ridiculous levels. Assigning malice where simple idiocy and naivete explain it. Yes she's making stupid counter-productive and poorly thought-out decisions, but they are almost never her actively trying to make things worse for anyone. She's just impulsive and self-centered. A bad combo.

You want to see how bad it can get, watch Weeds and see how much you hate that cunt by the later seasons.

Yeah, it isn't her trying to get furlough that makes her a selfish crap face. It's more in how she reacts to other people, and thinks the entire world should make her the centre.

I somewhat enjoyed the first season. This season however, made me want to rip out my eyes and ram them into my ears. When I said I wasn't enjoying it early into the season, people kept saying 'it gets better'.

They are fucking liars.

I disagree. This season actually was better. If you can power through episode 1, which is like all the worst parts of season1 condensed into a single fucking episode (minus tank girl -- I wish they'd added her), and if you can just turn your fucking brain off when piper is on the screen... they do a really good job with the secondary characters. Honestly a very good job.

IF ONLY THEY WOULD APPLY THAT TO PIPER. And honestly, without that retarded motherfucking DonnaDrama storyline even Piper is somewhat tolerable. I never thought I would have come to hate Hot Donna so much.

I see what you guys meant about the "wtf her accent changed in the flashbacks". You could explain that with her chemo + maybe she made a conscious effort to mask her accent... cause she was a badass bank robber and stuff.

When the warden chick went down on beer can, I instantly got a boner. I would totally do him.

I dunno, I'm kinda with Quaid. I liked the first season well enough, but this one, I basically slogged through it just for the sake of finishing it. I guess I'm in the minority since I haven't seen it mentioned much, but Pornstache is seriously the best character on this show, and he was on screen for like, 2 minutes.

Warden lady is crazy hot, though and that asian chick had a much better body than I was expecting.

The asian chick was so hot it fucking hurts me to know I will never fuck her. Painful hotness.

After watching it and reflecting on it, I still don't really see the glaring issues with Piper. She is a spoiled, self involved shithead. That's the point of the show, I thought. These upper class white people are supposed to be the ones who would be the traditional protagonists of any show, and they are pretty much fuckheads. Not necessarily horrible people, just too wrapped up in their stupid bullshit to see what is going on around them. Piper is too self involved to understand how bragging about her furlough might leave a bad taste in some peoples mouths, or when all the shit is going on with Red and she makes the conversation about her petty problems while the world of the prison is blowing up around her. She's oblivious. But she is going to get out of prison and be fine, and you have a girl like Tasty who gets out and never really had a chance. Shit is a clumsy attempt to criticize our societal structure.

I just finished this. Season 1 was pretty decent. Season 2 was terrible. Every character is a caracature. Babbling annoying Asian and her friend "meadow," Vee the psychopath in a minimum security prison, hormonal pregnant lady, the counselor who just cares oh so much and let's talk about FEELINGS then one nonattendance and suddenly I'm totally fine letting an innocent person take the wrap BUT WAIT I'm saved last second by some convenient encouragement at just the right time and now I do the right thing. Oh and then Caputo getting promoted and he's "one of the good guys" but then instantly gets corrupted by his power.

This bitch Jenji takes themes that are interesting and done well on good TV shows and just steals them and does them lazilly so they become clich?s. S1 was actually interesting and pretty decent. S2 was just a sad embarrassment.

That's my complaint. With the side characters they prove that they are capable of more than they're delivering with Piper. Piper is formulaic lazytown. The others are somewhat formulaic as well, but they humanize them. The lack of Alex lesbian drama this season made her a LOT more tolerable. But look at Episode 1 Piper -- that's the idealized expression of Piper.

It's lazy and clumsy. It's not that I don't get what they're trying to say -- it's that I don't think they're saying it particularly well. We're supposed to hate piper? Fine, that's fine. I might even agree a little bit. Let us love her at the same time. It's more better that way. Because that's what actually happens.

She's a lot like Skylar. She's just a soapbox. I mean they all are -- but.

Edit: We're not really expecting a masterpiece Dabamf. We've established that the show was hyper idealized to begin with and it's just a fantasy. The storylines are easy, the characters are relatable stereotypes, and the acting is quite good. Even Piper is a good actress. The character she's given is just crap. Bringing Donna back is going to ruin this show entirely, if that's their plan. This show and that character are just not the venue for her.

They did a good job of making the fat black airport chick so disgustingly annoying I hated her by the time her back story was done.
