That's true, but I was mostly referring to games that I've see that were trying to do their own thing; not be a remake.
Project Eternity: An old school RPG trying do its own thing.

Anyway, NewCo is going to get a lot more mileage and money trying to recreate some of that old-school experience than otherwise. Which is why @Convo I believe they have to do mostly non-instanced (inworld) dungeons and why @Kreugen it would be stupid of them to copy WoW. People who want to play WoW will play WoW not Pantheon no matter what Brad & Co do - and there's nothing wrong with that. Out of curiosity: has any WoW clone attempted to use kickstarter? And if so, what happened?

Make AA's be just for "flavor" stuff. Earn 5 AA's and your character can make fart noises. 10 AA's and you can wear a pimp hat. 15 AA's you get a dog. 20 AA's your dog will poop on command. 25 AA's you get a lute to play to pull in chicks.

You know, fun stuff.
Those are called achievements.

I just find it funny that you're so sure of everything based off absolutely nothing.

Ha I think the question of the day is outdoor or instance dungeon?! really looking forward to all this info coming out with the KS. We probably get off topic a lot
the comments and discussion have been great. overwhelming even

Certainly gratifying in that most of what I see that is wanted, we'd already planned

You can't make everyone happy but regardless, most of us trust your judgement. Both EQ and Vanguard (minus the engine hiccups) were outstanding. Just do what you do best and we will support the project.

Don't suppose the project could afford to develop boats? Man I loved my boat in VG. When I got tired of playing I used to just spawn my boat then float down a river and chill for an hour.

My boat memories that stand out the most are the one's crossing the zone line from Freeport to Butcherblock , you held on and prayed you weren't left behind in the ocean on the zoning in to the other side.

Just to throw out another EQ'ish mechanic I would like to see , is a lack of limitations/rails on equipment.

Make most , if not all , equip trade-able and without level limits. I spent tons of time just farming for this and that drop on my druid/shaman to twink out a rogue or warrior or whatever. It was literally a game in itself for me. It encouraged alts , and made your equip you got as you leveled something you could pass down to friends just joining or another alt of yours etc.

The negatives of locking down equip with level requirements and bound to character far outweigh negatives of allowing twinking and free trading of equip.
I am happy to accept the middle ground and have Bind on Equip items for only the top tier equipment. I would still like to see zero level / skill restriction on items to allow twinking and banking of raid drops for recruits, etc. If the entire world were full of fully unrestricted and tradeable gear, there would become a point of market saturation and lose the desire to farm items.

Boats would be cool but I can't imagine they are high on the list to make launch.. Who knows tho.. I know Brad planned years ahead with VG.. I'm betting he has a launch and post launch plan. I think their issue is to decide how much content/features are enough to launch a game and make their world have the desired feel they are looking for.

Best EQ "boat" memory was finishing a PoSky raid and the thing to do back then was to simply leap from the islands. You would fall end eventually zone into Freeport near the harbor. This specific raid, some poor shmuck fell onto the passing boat and died. Pretty LOL worthy!

I finally had a chance to watch those videos made with the engine they are using (check the spoiler below if you missed them). I have to say most of them look very good, I'd be happy if the Pantheon team achieves the same quality for the live game as those demos. That said, I'm sure any engine has their advantages and disadvantages, does anyone know in which regards Unity is considered weak/complicated/lacking?

posting unity videos since there's nothing else to talk about

Well I agree, but that's irrelevant to whether or not indie devs try to do something new.
I'd never say otherwise. The indie scene is getting wildly popular because of outside of the box thinking. It's thriving on Steam and the Humble Bundles are huge (there's even a damn store). Gone Home stole numerous GOTY awards from games like The Last of Us, which is crazy. That's not the topic I was speaking on, but yeah, I totally agree.

Iirc in GW1 you used to customize weapons for you grip or something which improved them but them unusable by others. Not sure on the details it has been a while but they could design something like that for binding and/or unbiding items. It would be another addition to the economy and possibly a money sink, which I think is good for games to combat inflation.
