somethings work out for the best!

For me it's really more about how fluid and response everything is.

A Peek at Pantheon Patch Notes

Posted date / 8.10.16

Behind the scenes our team has been continuously making tweaks, improvements and additions to the internal game client. Each new iteration energizes our staff and keeps us motivated to create the best possible gameplay experience. Thanks to the incredible support we have received from our dedicated fans, the updates have been even more plentiful as of late, and this month we wanted to give you a peek behind the curtain at some of our internal patch notes. This is just some of the highlights and by no means a complete list. The wording below has been edited as needed for clarity (and to protect the innocent).

  • Visual updates to multiple spell abilities. MOAR SPARKLIES!
  • Scaled attack animations to match characters attack speed. 2016 is just not ready for invisible melee damage.
  • Added a new audio manager, vastly improving sound effect administration. Bigger booms. Less mess.
  • Fixed AoE spells that were causing splash damage to caster. As hilarious as it was to watch newbie wizards blow themselves up ultimately it was decided that this is not conducive to a welcoming environment.
  • Added invert mouse setting to controls for inverted people.
  • Modified location settings in bug reporter for increased accuracy. Now please stop reporting bugs via zonewide /shout.
  • 2016-august-2-sm.jpg

Improved messaging with dodge, block, riposte and parry. Plans for a dramatic reading by James Earl Jones is being looked into.
  • Added and Improved floating combat text messages. Combat window or on screen. You’s gots choices.
  • Root now breaks correctly in all situations. The skeleton that was rooted on the rock by the Thronefast waterfall since January offers his thanks.
  • Added a new zoneline to Avendyr’s Pass. Where does it lead? Zone out and find out.
  • Unwanted items are now easier to delete. Unwanted bad groupmates are still your responsibility.
  • Meditation is now more relaxing. It actually has been for a while but we fell into a wonderful deep sleep for a while after the fix so we couldn’t post it until now.
  • Added Throw and ThrowMiss effects. We need to test this but please be responsible. And keep the pies away from Aradune. We don’t want a repeat of the Christmas party.
This is only a small taste of the massive amount of additions and improvements being made on a daily basis with Pantheon, and we can’t wait to share more with you.

Oh shit guys more fucking Sparklies this shit is getting real!!!!!

Yeah. I agree. My tolerance for buggy, half completed shit has basically reached zero. Ironically, it seems more publishers are willing to push out partially completed products these days. I miss the days where games weren't released unless they were in a playable state.

The biggest reason that is a problem is us. We as consumers enable that shit to happen. Devs of every damn game in recent times release an early access because they know we'll pay for it. Some devs need it to fund their game, some just exploit it to make extra money. That doesn't stop people from bitching and complaining that they just paid for a game that is fully advertised as pre-alpha early access.

What this thread REALLY needs is a good Utsplosion. A good, old fashioned, F16 carpet-bombing by our old pal Utnayan Utnayan . We can talk about some of his favorite things, like:

  • Developers who are shit, but never get fired and just keep making games
  • ...leading to real talent being kept in the closet, or out of a job entirely
  • Inbred development that hinders creativity because the industry is run by old hacks that recycle their old games
  • Studios will never stop giving us subpar games because we positively reinforce bad games but never negatively reinforce for that behavior
  • Curt Shilling
  • Speaking of 'shilling', we haven't talked about Blackwulf and TESO in a while. Eh? EH?!?
C'mon, help me out here Ut!

More sparklies?! Fuck yeah! And I hope they don't forget to put sparklies on quest items, though, especially things like unicorns that can be hard to notice without big, bright sparklies. Because it's always best to put sparklies high on the list of priorities.

Now we just need them to promise to make our characters be jacked with muscles of maximum heroicness. And helmets.

Couldn't agree more. I feel like we will hit a saturation point soon though. Like any quasi scam in history, it works for a while until people wise up and then it stops working . Eventually most people will wise up and stop paying for the "idea" of a game and require the developer to actually show them the "reality" of the game before they hand over cash.

Inevitably, there will be the 10% that will always be willing to pay for ideas they like, regardless of how many times they get screwed, just like there will be the 10% that will never pay for a game before it is done, polished, and the reviews are in. It's the other 80% that are allowing studios to get paid by consumers for "trying" to make a game-- for now.

After all, Nigerian princes and UK lotto winners aren't making nearly what they used to make when the scam was fresh.

So, got an old friend to come back to WoW this week. While shooting the shit, he started trying to hype me up on this "new" mmo that was coming out soon. Turns out, he was talking about Pantheon, and how excited he was for it, and it was going to be great.

Should I show him the old Patheon thread on rerolled? He knows nothing about it's history, or who Brad even is.

You know the genre is in trouble when the F16 doesn't care about the MMORPG genre any longer.

There was a saying the old relics of the past, the ones that buried this genre into a sinking pile of shit, used to believe in and I am guessing that they still do now. "Let them bitch. It's when the bitching stops? That's when we have to worry" That phrase was used 13 years ago. And guess what...

The bitching has stopped. These idiots had the entire genre in the palm of their hand, and just like Nicky Santoro said in Casino, "It's the last time that street guys like us were ever given anything that valuable again".

Now? The "Crew" works out of garages getting funding by some sucker on the street who is overdue on his electric bill and will believe anything just to keep the lights on for his kids. Maybe the investment will make enough of a return that he can walk down to the 7-11 and pick up a Milky Way for for the family Christmas day dinner. Either way, about 5 people care now, and 4 of those are the ones hanging on tight to the same dream they knowingly screwed up when they had the world in the palm of their hand. The market has moved on from their incompetence, and now that incompetence can be seen in other genres as a result of some of that mindset flourishing into other companies. These idiots believe their own paid for audience clappers when they already know they are plants, at E3. (See Matt Firor's presentation at E3) and can somehow ignore the fact they are marketing plants or company employees. It's hilarious. And no one even cares about that anymore either.

My F16 says good riddance. Relics, eat my jet wash. My fighter is on to bigger and better things than worrying about what a bunch of has-beens are doing in their spare time as they, now, and fully finally realize, they "dun fucked up".

I thought most were back on the bandwagon after he did the live streams. Now everybody sounds like they're back on the hate wagon.

Choose a side already. It's starting to feel like a Hillary fund raiser event in here with her changing her mind on what she stands for every other sentence.
