So there is an actual comic where this all happens in aternate Nazi USA? I had no idea if so, and I had no idea that is where this was going, and whoever said they saw this telegraphed 4 episodes ago, I sure didn't. But I grew up in a small midwestern town, about 25k people and we had a grand total of 2 black people in town when I was a kid. When that twist happened it took me by total surprise and I thought it was pretty damn cool. But then as I thought more about it, what is Gunn trying to tell us when the all white universe is clean and happy and serene and peaceful? I think I'm missing the message as it really did seem like utopia prior to the reveal.

Go back a page, I think people saw it coming in Ep.3 with the sons of liberty scene. The sons of liberty are the good antifa freedom fighters. I guess Peacemaker will join up with them and kill his brother and lock up his dad again.

I noticed the lack of blacks in the good universe and assumed the world was all white and that explained everything. To be honest, going back to the time honored "Nazis" crutch is pretty weak.

They should have just written Blacks never existed there and write in some amazing comedy the first time they see one. Instead of comedy, we get everyone wanting to kill the "escaped" black.

It's more about knowing current Hollywood and/or what's "acceptable" for TV show runners to put on TV in the west (BBC inserted non-white nobility in a TV show about Henry VIII (Wolf Hall S2) ). If you see any group that is only white people, they are basically the bad guys.

While watching the first time, I didn't necessarily notice there were no brown people in the alt dimension until that first episode was over and even most of the "terrorists" were old/white, not fighting age males. So immediately went back and watched him drive through town then go into the office again and yep, they were obviously in a dimension where his white power dad wins.

Put me down as another that didn't notice there were only whites until it was mentioned here. But I live in a very, very white area, so it just looked normal.

I have said many times that rural southern blacks are nothing like northern/urban blacks. The ones who grew up after centuries of working for massa still possess a modicum of understanding how that paradigm could make a comeback and act accordingly.

I think part of the misdirection is we kept getting scenes with Ads, so the “lack of black people” wasn’t really noticeable.

The second part is that when I see a cast, I never am like “ok is there at least one black person on screen? Cool.” Because normal people don’t judge characters based on color but their acting ability and character. Only sociopaths look at skin color first.

Third, when it IS perfectly diverse, it’s hella jarring. Disney’s most recent movies where it’s a medieval kingdom but they have an Asian, a black, a Latino, a white woman, and no straight white men in an English speaking Western European medieval country IS jarring because it’s so immersive breaking. That’s not how civilizations are. At most youd have predominantly 1 skin color, and then a small subset of nearby color. Like a Portuguese kingdom would be mostly white then a few Arabs from North Africa. MAYBE a sub Saharan black person but even that was extremely rare in medieval europe. Let alone having Latino people in Europe before the discovery of the new world. That’s some Graham Hancock level world building.

for me it's teeth. You have a perfectly detailed medieval scene and everyone has perfect straight white chiclets. Very jarring.
