Would like it to be How to Train Your Dragon 2 or Godzilla, but it will probably be Transformers.

Spiderman has a 14 day gap before Godzilla
Godzilla has a 7 day gap before X-men and 14 day gap before Maleficent and A Million Ways to Die in the West
X-Men has Godzilla before, Maleficent and A Million Ways to Die in the West after, Edge of Tomorrow after that
(non-contender separator) Edge of Tomorrow is preceded by all of that and followed by 22 Jump Street + How To Train Your Dragon 2
How to Train Your Dragon 2 has 14 days until Transformers
Transformers has a 14 day swing both ways with Dawn of the Planet of the Apes after
Guardians of the Galaxy has Hercules before, Lucy + TMNT after, Expendables 3 after that
Sin City 2 marks the end of summer

Transformers has the best slot, Dragons 2 has an okay one, Godzilla has a better time frame than X-men, Spiderman 2 still doesn't have as much hype as Marvel movies.

its probably easier betting which movies will bomb hard / not cover production costs with domestic box office. i'd guess planes, maleficent, and guardians of the galaxy

it is a pretty shitty summer movie list though. next year is gonna be ah-may-zing though

2014 has been shit so far

2015 is a jizz worthy movie year

Avengers: Age of Ultron
Star Wars: Episode VII
Jurassic World
Terminator: Genesis
James Bond 24
Mission: Impossible 5
Fifty Shades of Grey (ok, maybe not this one...)
Ant-Man
The Fantastic Four
Minions

If frozen and HTTYD 1 is any indication, kids 3-12 will be watching HTTYD2 will be in the top 10 at the box office for 3-4 months, there is absolutely nothing else for kids that range to see, and repeat visits are likely. My girlfriends 3 year old watched HTTYD1 over 100 times (literally) last year.

edit: it'll only reign over the box office for 6 weeks before planes comes out, which won't do as well, but will still drop HTTYD off the map.

I'm thinking the Dragon one. Kids movie.

It might be Transformers, but I would think that by the time you reach Transformers 4 audience fatigue becomes a thing.

Man that is a tough list. Amazing Spiderman has been getting poor reviews, but it may be huge.

Transformers, and the Dragon sequel also may destroy.
Big Monster movies have shown to be not huge box office earners, so I believe Godzilla is out.

Narrowing down the list these are off for me

Godzilla
Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes
Maleficent
22 Jump Street

Out of these

X-Men: Days Of Future Past
How To Train Your Dragon 2
Transformers: Age Of Extinction
The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Guardians Of The Galaxy

Going with Spiderman , it's already at 150 mill, and the first dragon movie only made 44 mill opening.

If anything comes close it will be Transformers which made 99 million on openingl

Transformers movies blow, how do they do so well?

I say X-Men: DOFP will come out on top.
How to Train Your Dragon will probably do pretty well too since it'll appeal to both young and old audiences moreso

I voted Guardians of the Galaxy, simply because it is difficult to vote against Marvel right now, and the timeframe seems favorable for it.

Second choice would be How To Tame Your Dragon 2 because of the kid angle, and because the first one took everybody by surprise and I haven't heard a single person say that they have no desire to see the second one. That doesn't necessarily translate into ticket sales, but there are plenty of people that have no interest in superhero or monster movies just on general principles. I don't think many are opposed to great (fairly adult-oriented) animated movies just because. But I could be wrong. I do think that after rentals/DVD sales are taken into account though, that HTTYD2 will probably be the big winner by a good margin.

Judging by the poll Transformers is in the lead. If you look at the previous Box office openings for the Transformers movies they do crazy good.

That will probly be the movie that wins the most money for an opening weekend this year.
