Watched Wreck it Ralph and Ralph Breaks the Internet the last couple of nights with our son. For starters, why isn't the second one called Ralph Wrecks the Internet? It seems so obvious. Either way, both were pretty good. I'd never seen them before but enjoyed it. Compared to some of the recent animated stuff we've watched like Moana or Luca or something else I can't even remember at this point.
Because when it was made this garbage Break The Internet: Kim Kardashian was still a big meme. It is a movie that will age like milk as lots of it ie the 1990s princess feminism humor is very of its time.

I want to start by saying these are all "bad" movies but for some reason I can't stop watching the end of the world type movies. Like the last couple of weeks I've watched Armageddon, Deep Impact, 2012, The Day After Tomorrow, Greenland, Moonfall, and Geostorm.

Brotherhood of the Wolf just came on to Freevee (the old IMDB channel). It rarely hits streaming services so if you have never seen it, give it a watch. Rewatching it tonight.

Mission Impossible II (4/10): Boy, this was complete dog shit. Complete. I did not have anywhere near the memory of this being such trash. John Woo was obviously not the right fit for a Mission Impossible movie. Not only that, it took an hour and forty fucking minutes before a single slow-mo shot of some birds! What kind of lazy ass John Woo effort is that? We had slow-mo looking, slow-mo winches, slow-mo wenches, slow-mo roundhouse kicks, flip kicks, drop kicks, axe kicks, slow-mo Tom Cruise long hair. It goes on. And on. And on.

What makes the mission impossible movies good is not knowing what will happen and the long sequences. Great for a first watch, but when you know what will happen it loses a lot of its impact. They aren’t as rewatchable as some movies. That said, 2 wasn’t great even the first time I watched it.

What made it even more irritating was how much we loved John Woo back in college. We watched all his 80s and 90s stuff, whatever we could get our hands on at Blockbuster, Movie Gallery, or Suncoast. I need to find those again. Haven’t thought about them in 25 years or more.

Watched Easter Promises again. Damn what a good movie. 8.5/10. When you factor in the Turkish bath scene it's a 10/10.

These are both on amazon prime.

Conan the Destroyer. less well loved compared to the original. its a much more direct dnd session. party gathering.. queen hires a fighter/thief, and thief to escort her daughter to steal a magic gem. sends her fighter, captain of the guard along. they pick up a wizard to help, and fight a barb that joins.
still is pretty solid. carried by epic visuals and sound track. solid acting from non-actors in grace jones and wilt chamberlain. the malak character is a sign of things to come with modern writing sadly. (the thief friend/comic relief.) This character really drags the whole thing down.
But still hits that "days of high adventure" and epicness.

Conan the Barbarian. 2011.
ooph. still in the middle of rewatching this. but man is it night and day.
The first major issue is the bad cgi and over narration from morgan freeman at the start. Then, we get into the anemic sound track.

Weaker of the two originals. but this shit is epic as fuck.

compared to this sad shit.
talk talk talk. bad cgi. weak music.

"born on the battlefield" ok, thats good, its from the books. but this is still weak. again bad soundtrack, bad action. Ron perlman soying it up is the next up problem. him as conan'd dad is weak as hell. the guy is way too soft.

this whole thing is coming off as very generic fantasy. far too many close ups. poor shots. no epic visuals. no epic bigger then life people.

"these are common slavers" "no man belongs in chains." modern writing is not helping this either. Conan would have 100% minded his own business, and not given a shit.
he was not going around freeing slaves, fighting the patriarchy, and disrupting capitalism.

tits are not bad.

I see lots of people shitting on mamoa's acting. and.. its not great. but, the acting was never a strong suit of conan movies. "solid acting from nonactors". but, thats the scale.. non-actors.
The problem is having bad acting, and trying to carry the movie on the acting. the original movies didn't do that.

This movie is totally failing on the visuals and soundtrack. its not setting up the environment correctly. its all too close, constantly. LOTR movies nailed acting, sound track AND environment.

this is obviously much of the same problems the Clash of the titans reboot had.

M3gan. its on prime now. 8/10. pretty solid movie.
as most of the reviews said back at the time. you expect a bad scary doll knockoff movie... but damn is this movie on point with satire of modern parenting, and child behavior.

Skimmed through Avatar 2 and damn that movie is absolutely retarded. You would think humans would learn from their pilots being shot out of the sky by fucking arrows but nope, still sending aircraft with windshields that can be easily pierced by arrows. Oh but those space whales? Yeah their hides are so thick they stop machine gun fire with ease.

The humans are even more one dimensional and comically evil than the first. The movie starts with humans effectively using a nuke on the planet to just clear trees. They hunt the space whales which somehow how have tribal tattoos exactly like 19th century whalers hunted whales, all to extract a small bottles worth of brain goo gruesomely from their brains. They then make it a point to say they do absolutely nothing with the rest of the whale they just dump it over board. Also even though these whales are said to be smarter than people and communicate with navi, they never before organized with the navi to kill the whalers. Only when the plot in the movie specifically called for it.

Absolute shit.

The Patriot - Rewatched this on Insurrection day. I had forgotten how good it is and how many characters they kill in it. Gibson going Rambo with a tomahawk against a dozen redcoats is a bit over the top, but otherwise a great ride. 8.5/10

Immortals - The story of Theseus and the Minotaur but somehow they turned the minotaur into some big dude in a barbed wire helmet. God this was bad. I almost didnt finish it. It was trying to be Snyder 300 stylish but it ends up being just crap. All the Greek Gods wearing the same gold plastic looking armor was terribad. The Titans looked like Blue Man Group rejects who were cast as zombies in 28 days later. Henry Cavill, Stephen Dorf, Mickey Rourke and John Hurt. I mean, how bad could it be? Fucking bad is how bad. The only redeeming scene is Rourke telling the coward/traitor that his line ends with him and his seed will never walk the earth and then having someone smash a giant sledge hammer into the guys balls. 2/10

Rewatched 3:10 to Yuma (the remake with Bale and Crowe, not the original). I wonder if the western genre will go extinct at some point as new Hollywood just doesn't seem to be populated with anyone who ever watched it or understands it. 8/10

Great cast, really solid story. Ben Foster nearly steals the movie as a supporting character .It's gotta be hard to fuck up anything by Elmore Leonard. I looked it up and was shocked that he has 43 adaptions of his writing in TV and Movies. Forty fucking three.

Just watched 2018's Tomb Raider. I was looking for something to wash away the bad taste of Raiders DoD. You know what, it was kinda good. I wasn't expecting much, so that helped. Alicia Vikander pulled it off reasonably well. Hell, I LOVED the original series. I know, a lot of folks shit all over the Cradle of Life, but I liked that one a lot too.

Alicia's Lara was a Lara in training. I would welcome a sequel. It was an entertaining film that used the Raiders DNA and was more entertaining and far less annoying than Dial of Destiny. Fun without pretense.

God is a Bullet. 3.5 out of 5 stars. Movie is fairly brutal and depressing in the beginning. A cops ex wife is murdered and his daughter is kidnapped by a cult of satanic lunatics. He is kind of a desk jockey and by no means some action star. He decides he has to get her back since the force isn't really doing anything.

Movie is pretty gritty and gets a little action filmy at the end but not to bad.

There is a surprising amount of known character actors and stuff in this too. Definitely recommend a watch.

I ended up buying it on blind chance for like 10 bucks on Amazon. It is pretty long. I watched it over two nights.
