I thought the last movie Riddick was a perfect send off too.
I just didn’t care for the world building of Riddick of this super human conqueror being able to change stuff on a galactic scale. I liked him being a dirtbag killer who just had a shitty day on a murder planet like “well that was an annoying 24 hours.”

Yeah that's what Riddick was about. Not to be confused with Chronicles of Riddick.

A tired war veteran has to make his way across Nazi occupied Sweden (I think) as they are retreating to the border. Bloody, well paced, mostly silent main character. 8/10

Zoolander, again, 10/10, Ben Stillers magnum opus, and my favorite movie. Even if you don't like silly movies, the way it's written and the meme worthy content make it worth the watch.

6/10, Kylo Ren escorts a girl who doesn't speak his language across Jurassic Park. Slower than it should be.

Adam Project
8/10, Ryan Reynolds plays himself in a movie about time travel and paradoxes and such, the kid does Ryan Reynolds cadence and delivery so well it's impressive. Mark Ruffalo and Jennifer Garner are a married couple.
Edit: My dad thinks Zoe Saldana is better looking as Gomora

10/10 for 12 Angry Men. It's just such a great movie. I'm also a sucker for movies that take place primarily in one place or room.

We were watching something and I told my wife it reminded me of 12 angry men. She had no idea (grew up in england so I guess it wasn't required reading) so we watched it. New for both of us as I'd only seen the b&w movie and didn't realize it was remade in color. Still a great movie and well done story. Was worried the remake would pussy out but it was good.

posts made me want to watch 12 angry men again, looked around and saw the criterion collection has a copy of the 1954 tv show. started watching it and it is about a 2/5 in quality, lot of dust/speckles etc, but what you get with almost 70 year old 16mm.

then saw a restored copy on youtube

I’ve only seen the B&W version and also didn’t realize they remade. May try and watch that tonight.

Last night tried to watch some bad stuff but it ended up too bad to finish.

This movie is like an amateur filmmaker attempting to throw every action movie idea in to one 15 minute scene and then replaying that scene over and over and over. It is nauseating and distracting. Amateurish is just the main thing that sticks out to me. Not that there aren’t some cool shots and ideas, they’re just terrible. I lasted about 35 minutes before giving up.

Chronicles of Riddick is my favorite of the trilogy. Love the lore (pre-Dredd Karl Urban too) and the whole setting of it.
yeah. Like I get it. its a radical departure from Pitch Black. hard to imagine it even takes place in the same universe. and its not a perfect movie by any stretch.

But at the same time, you have to respect the attempt. ok, we were wildly successful with Pitch black. we don't have the rights to warhammer, Dune, or Metal Hurlant.... fuck it, we are doing it anyway. We'll make our own epic space opera!

Reading the posts above. Now, I'm wondering if I ever even seen Riddick. you guys make it sound like Conan. or, specifically the King conan we never got.

I will admit that Chronicles is one of my guilty pleasure movie loves (like Keanu's Constantine). I love the actual world building of the Necromongers, the whole planet invasion scenes and such. And the overall power fantasy of Riddick's character and the bits of Furyan lore thrown in.

I would have loved to see more in this vein, provided Chronicles had not ended with Riddick on the Necromonger throne, like King Conan, as you indicated. They kind of introduced the world building, then blew their load with the assumption that it was a one and done.

Then they reduced him to a loner planet survivor again ala Pitch Black without the questionable morality and ethics.

I watched The Matrix last night, only because I've recently got a new Dolby Vision TV and Nvidia Shield (which is only device that can plex stream Dolby vision to the TV) and because I read the Atmos mix is demo disc material.

I know the movie backwards, probably still from having the DVD 20+ years ago so it didn't really hold my attention outside of the action sequences. The Atmos mix is definitely one of the most frenetic mixes I've ever heard. It almost feels like they've intentionally amplified the surround FX from all channels.

"Also, I'd argue this new master looks much closer to the film's original theatrical presentation and less like the Reloaded/Revolutions green-everywhere color grading that was a bit like that first Fellowship of the Ring Blu-ray. Skin tones and contrast are on point and there's plenty of shadow detail, but without HDR, black levels hover somewhere just-above true black. The special and visual effects still look good, for the most part, save for the CGI-generated machines, which can seem a bit flat and cartoony when not drenched in shadows. There's also a touch of banding and haloing around contrasty subjects, but it's not severe. Despite a few flaws, The Matrix has never looked better in HD."
