That's more than a 5 dollar word. That's about a 20 dollar word. I've never heard that word before at all.

Most words you hear once or twice, even the super fancy "oh stop being pretentious" ones. But holy damn. Lagniappe sounds straight made up.

Google says it's creole though. So while I still rate it at a solid 20 dollars, I feel less shame about my ignorance.

Well the original one was for the 7th. Then I got banned from the shaw for shit talking (in the shaw) and it somehow changed to the 16th. Then a_skeleton_02 added on 3 more points because I asked them to review my case the day he was elected so now its the 24th. I imagine I'll get a few more tossed my way.

Don't give me too much credit. My dad's side of the family is from Louisiana so the word has been in my vocabulary for years. I don't write it often though because I have trouble remembering how to spell it (and autocorrect is no help).

It's pronounced Lahn-yop. Or lah-yyop if you're extra coon assy. Actually it's tough to write out how coon asses pronounce anything. They manage to get a hint of an n in the middle of the word somehow but it's not enough that it feels right to type the n.

My dad had one about peeroux, the best woodsman in all of southern Louisiana, which is just the same as the best woodsman in all the world. It takes like 10 minutes to tell (in case you couldn't tell it was long from the title) but it had me rollin the entire time. He had a lot of jokes like that. Is that how hers were?
