Summer 2015 Anime Thread

Haven't seen this title mentioned, it is one of the more enjoyable watches from recent years in my opinion.

This is also good for finding decent Anime. It's a bracket Reddit's /r/anime subreddit finished a few months back. You can filter by "Finals" to see the winners of each bracket or "Full" if you want to see everything.

While I don't mind FMA:B winning it was one of my favourites but seeing Beserk get knocked out by that...

Berserk has one of the least well received endings in anime history, I would imagine. They cut out the primary character that makes that ending sequence make sense (Skull Knight) and instead leave it ambiguously as "And then Guts gets a crossbow arm!" to the viewers. Especially compared to the previous episodes. Great when it comes to overall story, but the Berserk anime has the flow of an epilepsy patient. Starts and stops all over the place, especially the ending.

I just go over to myanimelist.net and search through the top anime for whatever medium I am looking for; movie, ova, or TV series. It is the only semi-decent weighted system I know about, usually anything rated higher than an 8.00 is a good watch.

There was a series out last year (I think) called Barakamon. It was about a kid that does those big splash calligraphy posters. Apparently the style used in those is a big thing in Japan. I guess similar to using different fonts in America, or whatever.

The show itself is cute. It's only 20% about calligraphy. The rest is how this kid interacts with the people in this new town that he's staying at. My daughter likes it, and she reminds me a lot of the little girl in this show.

Space Brothers was really good. Any idea if its going to continue?

Gate became a porn fantasy after all. Oh well. I wish it didn't go that route. I can't wait to watch the crazy nympho chick go ape shit on all of those soldiers with her axe.

Ehh I don't think it's becoming that. Sure the priest chick gets wet when battle is around but that's just her thing. She will return to normal soon enough when she is mindlessly killing people.

Shokugeki was pretty interesting though. Can't wait to see what Soma and Megumi make.

Although the cook off between Light and dark was awesome to watch.

Gate was great. So many Fate references.

The anime is on Hiatus, but the manga is continuing, two volumes have been released in 2015, three volumes total since the show ended.

"The final episode airs this Saturday. We're catching up to the manga, so we're taking a break for the time being. We don't know when we'll continue exactly, but look forward to our exhibit in May and the movie this summer."

The above quote was posted right before episode #99. Seems like there are plans to continue at a later date, but no time table set. They released an app and I think a movie which the manga artist wrote, so that delayed the manga for a time. By my napkin math, they have about 15-20 episodes worth of manga content so far. Another year they could have a full half-year season (26 episodes+).

Not sure what to think about the twist in Charlotte this week, it could turn out for the best. As for Gate, at least it got the fan-service episode out of the way, haha.

Shokugeki no Soma did a great job this week with the witch chick.

Meh, most of the episode was good anyway - was thinking it was implausible that they'd have them wandering obliviously about the place, cutting to the ongoing bloodbath with the special forces escort was pretty funny.

For those of you still watching Classroom Crisis, this week's episode was a great reminder of just how fucked up Nagisa's family is. Pretty sure we're well into Macbeth level now. We just need some incest to push things into full on royal family shenanigans.

God Eater 6 was pretty weak.

So how bad have the production issues been for that show? It's only episode 6 and most shows are on either 8 or 9 already.

Haven't had any faults. But the show itself is beautiful. I've never seen art style quote like it before. That "might" have had something to do with the delay, but no idea.

I didn't see it listed on that link, but I just finished Log Horizon. 2 seasons and it really brought back some of the old EQ days nostalgia. I enjoyed it for what it is and the characters were pretty fun.

It's kinda like sword art online, based in an MMO game world.
