He was a clone of Superman, so essentially Superman with a very young and not as well developed brain. He got thrown into a pocket universe "black hole". My bet is if this cinematic universe gets it's legs under it you'll eventually see him come back "twisted by the pocket universe energies" and be the movie Bizzaro.
The whole clone thing was stupid. Kal El got his powers from going from a red sun to a yellow sun. If you cloned him on Earth, all you'd get is Clark Kent. They fucked up the very most basic thing about him.

Further, it would be impossible to replicate Kal El because Kyrpton's sun was destroyed.

In this case, why not clone yourself? Superman himself said that brains beats brawn. A red sun powered Lex would curb stomp supes without even blinking.

B8! L19! N42! F37!

Joke of a stupid fucking movie.

Looks like Ultraman is a real character of alt universe / evil Superman and was introduced in 1965.

IIRC, a clone isn’t an identical twin. It’s a clone: genetic abnormalities and all. If the dna was altered by the sun, then that altered dna was cloned, wouldn’t it still have the Superman powers due to the replication of the altered dna?

which is why Jon Kent (superboy) also has powers despite being born and raised on Earth. Because he has his fathers mutated dna.

iirc, Bizaro first appeared after superman got hit by duplication machine, later it was changed to the machine brought him from his earth, which always makes me laugh, but after crisis bizaro's world was removed.

new 52 bizaro first appeared after lex combined superman's dna with a guy and it went south. lex has tried a few more times to make a superman, but results in a bizaro like monster.

conner kent / superboy is also a lex clone/hybrid of superman. there is also a failed clone like bizaro made from superboy's dna, but isn't called bizaro.

Watched this over the weekend, and the more I talk about it the more upset I am. I didn't hate the new actor (although I liked Cavill better), but the whole fucking story was retarded. You guys have gone over it ad nauseum here, as I just caught up on the thread and see all the same complaints I had, so I won't repeat them. But yeah, fuck this version and fuck James Gunn.

As far as Ultraman, Multiplicity already explained the cloning concept.

I rewatched Zack Snyder's Justice League over the weekend and I must say, I enjoy THAT way more than the new Superman.

Unpopular opinion, but I genuinely like Man of Steel and Zack Snyder’s JL

There’s a fan edit of BvS directors cut that’s actually pretty good, too. They cut out all the Wonder Woman, JL, and doomsday stuff and it’s a tight little story of Batman v superman. Called “Batman v superman: no justice.”

superman (2025) ultimately suffered for the same reason that BVS and Avengers 2 suffered from. Too much focus on future movies and not enough focusing on a tight knit story.

batman begins was filmed as a stand alone story. Dark Knight was filmed as the end of the duology. Then TDKR was filmed as the end of the trilogy. But each installment was created by Christopher Nolan and his brother as the final movie.

I think Superman (2025) could be fixed by removing:

- no supergirl

- minimizing krypto

- no pocket universe stuff, make it a prison

- Lex Luthor isn’t pure evil, but just sees Superman as a threat to mankind’s free will. Security, and agency. Plus superman invites monsters to metropolis to attack more often, another issue. Not “I am evil bc good is dumb.”

the beginning of the movie superman is under fire by the govt because he intervened with two foreign nations at the border of Bolivia and Myanmar or whatever they’re called. Then at the end the Justice Gang does the exact same thing without any consequence. So. I guess don’t worry about it.

I will say I don’t know a lot about Superman but I did like these comics:

- Superman red son by mark millar

- the dark knight returns by Frank miller

- all star Superman by grant morrison

- the death of Superman written by a committee of writers

But that little brown kid held up the Superman flag, that means it is ok!

Also, I like Man of Steel. It has problems, but I've rewatched parts of it about a dozen times. I always start 20 (maybe 30?) minutes in where he is on the fishing boat and then saves the oil rig guys. That scene is fucking awesome.

I don't know anyone who disliked Cavill as Superman. He was a terrific casting. Looked and acted better then Reeves IMHO. People forget how awful S3 4 and 5 were. I know 5 wasn't him but still.

What let Cavill down was the terrible plot. And Zodd was terribly miscast. Cavill was great, story awful.

Brandon Routh was an awesome fucking Clark/Superman, too. The script writing (turning him into a fucking peeping tom, for example) was horrendous.

I finally got around to watching this new one and have some of the same basic complaints as the Pitch Meeting video: Lex calling out commands and outperforming Superman. Get fucked. Anyhow, the other real issue I have is all the cursing. I get that most comic book nerds are around my age, but the media industry seems to think that means we should be assuming all children are born already grown up. That's not how it fucking works, retards.

Other than that, I thought the movie was fine. Fillion killed it as Guy Gardner: the kid holding up the flag praying for Superman and he's like, "You got an upgrade, kid". That was awesome. heh

Dude casting for Returns was awesome except for Lois Lane.

parker posey, Nick swardson as Jimmy, Daniel Routh as Supes, and Kevin Spacey crushed it as Luthor. He’s probably my favorite live action Luthor so far.

I rewatched Knighttime episode from s3 of Superman TAS on HBO today, and their Lex Luthor in that series was a black man. I think that could work really well if he was played by the equivalent of Ving Rames (Marsalis Wallace from Pulp Fiction).

I did love the casting of Jimmy in the new Superman. Glad he got a lot of screen time, too. Skyler Gisondo is a nice Jewish young man.

All the dialog from Superman himself was pretty good and on par with the comics. My criticism is only other characters.

Just rewatched this over the weekend. Still amazing. Helped rinse the taste out of my mouth from this shitty movie. Gunn had all the right pieces to make a great movie, he just couldn't because he's too wrapped up in jokes and furries (EDIT: oh yeah, let's not forget humiliation fetish apparently too...Superman gets shit on more in this movie than all the others combined it seems like) and whatever else warped shit goes on in his mind.

Made a lot more sense why he immediately recasted Cavill. He couldn't sell these scenes the way Gunn wanted and he knew he needed a guy who could do the "comedy" he was looking to get out of Supes. aka get beaten into a living death for laughs. Audiences would hate it if it was Cavill.

From what I have read, it seems like folks aren't judging it on it merit but rather on it's intricacy or rather its complexity rather than its quality or applicability. Luther creates a pocket universe, which effectively makes travel to anywhere instantaneous through two gateways and also provides unlimited storage and space availability without any transport costs. What does he use it for? Colonize Mars? No, but instead to take over half a desert country with untapped OIL reserves (Fake Edit AND get to kill/embarrass #SuperShitMan) Also to house his social media empire of literal monkeys (CCP's bot farms would be jealous, if they could feel emotion). And house political prisoners with no bathrooms.

You could revolutionize travel and logistics on Earth, be the new ElonBezos, and then buy both of Bolugos and Jahalapur or whatever their names are, or instead something quaint like Brazil.
You can make separate points without this weird "fake edit" affectation.
