on sat superman was at $217m which passed cap falcon total domestic take of $200m and is only $13m behind it worldwide total.
don't watch a lot of tv, but saw a few ads of superman and none for f4. will see how hard they push it this week. superman had spend a fuck ton. for like 3 weeks, every time i saw my parent's echo is was showing a pic of krypto. think it was on my roku tvs for almost 2 weeks too.
They are 200mil+ on marketing already, idk how much that + is going to end up being but they're already spent so much that the movie is officially on track to be an epic flop.

It was reported earlier that he doesnt need to make a profit, Gunn isnt at risk of being fired as long as the movie has a positive audience score and it makes at least 500mil. Idk if the calculus changes if they keep up the spending on marketing, they are already looking like a 200-300mil loss as is. (Oh but what about all the meth heads in rural Kentucky?? That dollar a day redbox rental fees 16 weeks from now will turn it around for sure! Save the whatsboutisms faggots, its a flop)

Hoping that he focuses more on smaller stories of characters that happen to exist in the same universe rather than these huge interconnected plotlines building up to global extinction events. You end up kneecapping yourself having to explain what every new character was doing during the last big bad event and the storyline just gets so convoluted. Im good with just mentioning other characters or maybe just joke cameos, no need to have to watch 30+ films in a specific order just to keep track of shit.

DC comics has tried making Mr. Terrific a thing repeatedly. hes just too boring. much of it is likely due to "black super genius" #13231, who has no flaws, because you can't write a black man with flaws.

Good Luck I guess. people liked him in this. I haven't seen this, so not sure what was different this time.
OK. Mrs. Haus Mrs. Haus and I went and caught this today. I'd say they did write him with flaws, but they're personality flaws.

Overall, I think the first third of the movie was a shade disjointed, then is gets into it's groove later and lands the ending pretty well. I did feel like Superman was almost a second tier character in his own film a lot. Hoult was a great Luthor IMHO. I see why they went the direction they did with the stuff about his Kryptonian heritage, but I think it wasn't needed.

It's also clear at this point Gunn's thing is ensemble "team" movies/shows. But he "had" to do a Superman to kick off this new DCU. I'd give this a "6.5" as mentioned. Not great, but not bad....

Just got back from seeing it...wife really liked it, as did the 12 year old. My biggest annoyance was the idea that Lex yelling out coded commands and Ultraman executing them faster than Superman could react was somehow a viable strategy. "Why are these drones circling us during the whole fight? Weird." But I guess you couldn't have the conclusion they did if he was just trained instead of prompted. I like it better than any other modern Superman movie...hard for me to compare to the Reeves stuff, since I haven't watched any of them in 20+ years. I feel like a 7 or 7.5/10 is fair. I liked it and might watch it again if it happened to be on, but I wouldn't buy a bluray copy.

The more I think about this movie the more I dislike it.

Things like...

Catching a falling building in it's entirety. The rest of the building would collapse around him still killing whoever is still underneath.

I thought Superman could only be hurt by Kryptonite, magic and other insanely strong metahumans...now apparently nano tech as well.

My biggest issues are (as mentioned above) Lex calling out commands to defeat Supes in hand to hand combat. Superman should be able to hear those commands and intelligent enough to destroy the fucking drones but instead needed the dog to help.

And Lex again...my biggest issue with the movie. If you have a interdimensional pocket universe at your wim...why the actual fuck would you care about a country that is primarily fucking sand?!

This version of Lex Luthor is the dumbest character in movie history.

He didn't actually give a shit about that country, he says as much. he propped up the whole war only to bait superman into defending the other side who are not the US allies for the sole purpose for the US govt to give him permission to kill him, which he didn't need since his weapon was masquerading as the metahuman from that country he attacked.

That's his whole motivation the entire film, is to kill superman. He has 72 fucking different ways to do it, the whole film you are sitting there waiting for him to reveal some deeper purpose for all his machinations. Oh he must want to destroy superman's public image first, before he kills him? He wants the world to turn on him first? He wants superman to be found guilty? he wants to strip superman of everything like bane, before giving him permission to die?

Nope. he literally just wants to kill superman. he didn't need any of the other shit to happen, just wants superman dead. He has every single tool needed to do this, he is just retarded. this movie should of been 30 seconds long.

Movie opens to stupid wall of text garbage explaining why they aren't going to bother doing an origin story despite radically altering his origin.
Superman crashes into the Antarctic outside the fortress of solitude, having just got his ass kicked by Stupidman aka ultraman aka The Latvian Riga hammer or whatever the fuck he was masquerading as.

The engineer lands right behind him and cuts off his head with a kryptonite sword, and then impales his skull on kryptonite spike.

Press release, breaking news, Superman killed by Riga Hammer as revenge for superman intervening in the war. cue kids crying, politico's carrying water justifying the response, superman got what he deserved, excusing the jew invasion of palestine Desert Latvia's invasion of brown people land.

Cut to Lex luthor in the pocket dimension thanking element man or whatever the fuck his name is for making the kryptonite weapons. hell show a flash back of him making the kryptonite weapons in stupidman's presence so lex can verify that they are effective and will work to kill superman, and lex promising to release his son or whatever once superman is dead. Cut to lex closing the pocket dimension and just letting him and his son starve to death instead.

The end.

Beyond the retarded as fuck plot and script, yeah everything else about the movie was also bad. The more I think about it the worse it gets.

about superman losing to ultraman, you can call it a plot hole/shit script or just accept Gunn's vision. Just like above, in Gunn's universe lex luthor is the dumbest fucking villain in history who just so happens to have gazillions of dollars to buy smart people to make him tech. Lex Luthor is basically the liberal's twisted view of Elon Musk.

In this universe superman is the strongest metahuman to ever exist, says so in the wall of text. Which means he's never had to try to accomplish anything, he is just lazy and never learned how to fight. he relies solely on his ability to not be hurt by anyone and to be able to beat anyone effortlessly in order to save the day.

The moment he goes up against someone the same strength as him (his own retarded clone), despite the severe latency of relying on voice commands from a swarm of drones operated by a team of retards using memorized list of combat moves, superman is such a shit lazy fighter that he still loses every single fight because he has never put any effort in before.

Hell lois lane literally describes the relationship as more of a situationship and she is about to dump him because he's so meh. This is canon in the gunn-verse. soiboi superman

At some point they added a canon explanation for that shit to Superman's lore. He's projecting a telekinetic field that stabilizes whatever he's holding or some silly shit like that.

I thought that was what they used to explain Superboy/Connor Kent's super strength, was that it was actual tactile telekinesis as I remember it....

Then again, I remember 1970's superman who was strong enough to just push planets out of the way or meteors..... then push them back... and not have any catastrophic issues due to rotation/inertia/tides/moons/etc.

When you get to Superman level power you have to be willing to just set reason and logic to the side, lean back, and enjoy the show.

I liked at the end how he could laser 100 of those mechs or whatever they where called all at once but 5-6 of those command drones was just too much for him.

I went in knowing nothing. There's a lot I really like about this movie and a lot I fucking hate.

It feels like they asked AI to write a James Gunn movie. It needed to be light and fun but it came off as goofy.

Also don't care for the non-stop plot exposition. Just constant.

I have it on good authority that to do this requires a supercollider to create a pocket universe, and then an army of hardwired monkeys.....
