The intro where they said that the Brains tribe has an "Average IQ of 130" was pretty lulzy after seeing these guys in the challenges.
And that's why calling them the "brains" tribe is stupid, especially if that's the only criteria for being selected. Unless they IQ screeneveryone, who's to say that the other tribes don't also contain people with high IQs?

However they chose to evaluate "brains" obviously didn't work out. IQ doesn't translate to being good at survivor at all. It's not really about book smarts, it's about social skills more than real book smarts.

I wasn't really down on J'tia until she dumped the rice. That was some dumb ass shit. That said, Garrett was a fucking disaster of a survivor player and he was going sooner than later regardless. The other 3 on the brains team seem reasonably normal and J'tia might calm down if the whole tribe isn't up her ass like that so maybe things will get better for them.

I can see why everyone is in love with Cliff on the brawn tribe. Listening to him laughing when the boat turned over was delightful. The fact that he is a giant and also super likeable are both going to help him. Obviously he doesn't have confidence in his swimming ability though since he sat out the second challenge.

The cop guy is such a douche. I don't know why in the hell he felt the need to lie to the other cop lady about being a cop. Lying for no reason is just stupid. Building the spying hut was an interesting idea and I'm kind of surprised that people haven't tried it before, but I'm pretty sure the chances of someone noticing it and going "WTF?" are about 1000 times more likely than the chances of catching people having a strategic conversation right outside your covert hut and you being able to get into it to listen without them noticing. I hope the rest of the tribe picks up on his nonsense and votes him out quick.

I have nothing to say about the beauty tribe except the cheerleader chick has some big ass tittys.

lol I was thinking the same thing. That cop guy is a major dumbass. Dude needs to be voted out first. There is no reason to lie about being a cop.

The spyhut was dumb because there isn't much of structures built around the base camp except for the ones built by the tribe. You would have to have a really bunch of stupid people to fall for it.

And yes, Morgan needs to stay around awhile because wow she is very beautiful. Wow, her body is rocking to say the least. Very cute and HOT.

Did it say what that first short guy that was voted off did on the show? I just read on ESPN he is the president of the Miami Marlins and is worth like $200 million. I don't want some already rich person winning the show.
I don't think the contestants knew that, only the viewers from the name/profession overlay when they speak.

That was the strangest first episode ever. Some crazy lady totally blows a challenge for your team and then destroys your food supply and you don't vote her out? Seems whenever they try to do more than 2 tribes, one is significantly worse than the rest and they all get voted off first and force an early merger. For once I'd like to see three evenly matched teams slowly whittle each other down and put some excitement in the race for the 3 finalist positions.

hedi strobel - highest iq of the season

obviously the way survivor tests iq is to add +100

would it have been so difficult to find 15 ppl with 130+ iq, good bodies and are photogenic? then say 5 of you rank higher in one of these categories.

instead of, "oh you ugly, u must be smart"

"oh you got muscles, guess you must be strong"

Finally got to see it. Nothing to say that hasn't been said already. When that cop was being paranoid and talking about his little spyhut did anyone else think, "Philip! Welcome back. I've missed you!" He is going to be gold.

I feel sorry for the chess master kid. He is probably fucked for no real reason other than he didn't expect a professional poker player to be so horrible at people skills.

Not sure who to root for just yet, have to see some more personalities come to light. Entertaining first episode except that the "Brains" tribe doesn't seem to be in the running at all.

Just found out that they moved the HII back to the original "play it after the vote" version. Holy shit, what a terrible idea. It was changed because in the 2 seasons (12 and 13) that it was like this NO ONE FUCKING USED IT BECAUSE IT WAS TOO POWERFUL. It was just like "oh hey, I have an idol loooool" and so they were protected until basically the end. Yul won because of it. Probably something like 75% (including all of Russell's best shit) of the great Survivor moves since season 14 were possible only because of the HII and the way it has worked since those first two seasons.

Probst said that this was Tyler Perry's idea. Since when does Madea fucking matter? Terrible idea unless someone has balls enough in a majority alliance to force the HII out. Very unlikely.

the HII "play it after the vote" is
only for the merged HII, regular camp HII are play b4, otherwise poker player would have played his.

these HII are too easily found, i know they edit, and it might take them days, but i remember seasons where they went weeks w/o finding one.

thinking back on this, maybe the nerds are smarter than we think, maybe they thought poker player had the HII, and since everyone was 100% set on voting off the crazy rice dumper, best time for a blind side. (tho, i kinda doubt it)

The poker player left his idol at the camp, so he wouldn't be able to play it either way. That's how safe he felt.

Based on my experience with engineering, a black female engineer is like a unicorn. She's probably going to get hired for any job that she applies for just because both women and black people are severely underrepresented in the field. Secondly, very few of the female engineers I knew did much engineering. They all got made into managers or project managers. With all due respect to your wife, female engineers are super rare and good technical ones are almost non-existent.

oh thats true my wife is one female engineers that does engineering, she just designed and implemented her section of the plant, she did this for two years (and she's been playing skyrim this whole weekened, catching up). every other female engineer is as you said, propped up by their manager, cuz not only is it almost necessary to have female engineers (to meet that minority quota) it also makes the manager look good to "bring them in". among the 30ish female engineers she's probably met in the company she only respects 1 as an engineer, the rest are just given secretarial work.

and i don't think black + engineer is as unicornish as it was, lately her company is just hiring female engineers left and right.

funny story, she got her first job attending a NSBE conference (national society of black engineers), she's asian.

Wow, that's disappointing. Even if it's only for after the merge, it's like an auto-finals award. Thinking of how many people in recent seasons have found multiple (since they hide them for shit), that's just obscene.

I had always said I wouldn't bother looking for an idol because it just brings too much heat, but if it were an after the vote kind, I'd absolutely be searching for thing all day.

might be geographical, when we were in pa, all the female engineers she met were white, now that we moved to nj, it's more diverse. (also depends on the hiring practices, if certain vp's want their alum to be hired, i'm sure)

That's a good point. I was in the Bay Area which has a very large Asian population. When I was taking grad school classes at Santa Clara University my classes were like 75% Asians.

The HII change is still far too powerful. It'd be better if it were the other way around. It's a pretty simple production decision as far as finding them goes. Having idols in play = more drama, so they want them to be found and in play as often as possible. One clue should be enough at this stage considering that Russell blew the whole thing open by finding multiple idols w/o a clue.

Had the nerds been targeting the idol they definitely would have shown that in the edit. I do think that Spencer was fishing for that info when he spoke with Garrett about the possibility of David having an idol. Garrett didn't bite, though (probably the only thing he did right), so there wasn't a way for them to be sure as no clues or any talk about the HII were presented to them.

Absolutely true. In engineering at university we only had 2 females in the entire engineering umbrella. Probably 300 students with 2 females. One was a computer / electrical engineer double major that was friends with me. When she applied for jobs, by the end she had 20 offers from very high-rated companies. It was absurd.

actually that late in the game, makes it mega powerful, i agree, the only strategy against an idol (flushing/blindside) can't even be used on it. b/c like you said w/o that mega idol yul wouldn't have won or lasted. (it was only useful to turn penner, and the math really was on yul's favor, he would either kill the other side, in this case penner and loose the idol or keep his idol, power, and get rid of an opposing member, either way he wouldn't loose that week, really yul was able to bully penner)

but that was the only time it was used like that, all the other times, it was, "i got the idol, nah nah", or "here i trust you, here's the idol"

You can still flush it but you have to knowingly go into it realizing that the person with the idol will not be going home no matter what. So you'd need to know who has it, know that you have the numbers to flush it, and know that you're going to be causing some serious drama with a person who will be hanging around. That's a ton of things to work with in a game where keeping things as simple as possible is the goal. It'd take an incredibly ballsy player with a strong hold over several players to pull it off. The potential for a huge move is there, but it's incredibly unlikely.

You also need an overwhelming majority, if we're talking post-merge. If the person with the idol has any sort of alliance, you'll have to get them to join in.

Edit: To clarify, you need enough votes to knock out your "real" choice, but that also includes having 1 more vote than the idol holder plus their alliance. Basically, an idol when there's only like 6 or 7 people left would be almost impossible to overcome, and I'm confused why the producers would think it's a good idea.

With 7 people:
Idol Holder - 3 votes
2nd choice - 2 votes
Idol holder alliance choice - 2 votes

You get a tie in that case, and that's with only one person sticking with the idol holder's alliance. That's also assuming you can convince the 2nd choice person that they aren't, in fact, going to be going home when the idol holder plays their idol.
