the nba is weak on this. sterling has been a known racist/bigot for decades. he has had court decisions against him on grounds of racism. the nba didnt do a goddamned thing. either they have rules in place or they dont. you cant pull something out of your ass at the last minute when it suits you. sterling has a case.
Him being a racist isn't the grounds for the NBA's actions. The financial damage to his business spilling over into the league as a whole is the basis.

this only broke a few days ago, there is no way they could gauge any long term damages to the league from sterlings private conversations. it was a knee jerk reaction in an attempt to make this story go away. thing is its not going to go away and it was a poor decision and sterling knows it.

Financial damage is the reason, but they're allowed to do this because all the owners agreed they could. That includes Sterling. Unless you would like to explain how this could be an anti-trust issue, you have no idea what you're talking about. The only question is how long is Sterling able to drag this out in court.

I suspect the answer to that is pretty much until he dies.

Literally dies. 85 years old.

Unless the court battle becomes more expensive to maintain than the profits from his sports team. But I don't see howthatcould possibly happen.

Sponsors already pulling out and players threatening to boycott. Nope, no way to gauge financial damage at all.

sponsors pull out and new ones come in, you cant gauge damage by some fucking sponsor shifting with the wind. if after x quarter the team or league lost y amount of dollars due directly to z then that is a result you can base judgement on. after a week? uh no.

Which new sponsors are coming in? The local chapter of the greater LA Grand Dragons? Your line of logic makes zero sense.

You think anyone was going to sponsor the Clippers? The team, and supposedly multiple teams, were going to refuse to play in the middle of the playoffs until he was removed. That means the NBA refunds all ticket sales, commercials, and sponsors of the non-clippers teams. You really think this might not have cost them any money?

nobody refused to play and if anyone boycotts the clippers its on them not the league. this was all a kneejerk decision based on what might have happened and not on what happened.

Wouldnt all Sterling or his lawyer have to say is that his actions up until this leaked confidential conversation were completely fine and not a problem to the league or the general public and conversely he was pursuing the best/financial interest of the NBA? And that the actions of V. were done in such a way to purposely cause as much damage to Sterling and the NBA as possible so she is the one responsible?

Imo all these upset hypocritical retards need to settle down. Dude has been a pretty big racist for years and no one gave a damn about it. Dude has a confidential conversation with someone else that is nowhere near as offensive as any of the other shit hes pulled and everyone loses their heads.

No. That's a very bad argument for many reasons and The financial part isn't relevant to their ability to force the sale of the team. The NBA bylaws give the commissioner broad power to punish for "conduct detrimental to the league" and force a vote by the other owners. "Detrimental" can also refer to the image of the league or really anything Adam Silver wants it to.

They wouldn't all have to strike, though. If you manage to get a couple of guys per team to boycott Clippers games it would fuck everything up.
