Yeah, I have no idea if Gase is going to be a great coach or not. It does appear that he is greatly benefitting from having an amazing offense built around Peyton, and outside of that I am not sure what success he has had. Up until the last year or two, I had never even heard of the guy.

The buzz on Gase is that people think he is some kind of offensive guru. I'm not sure what it was based on. If Fangio leaves it's going to be hard to get excited about the change though. I still think the 9ers should go with a defensive guy that can play to their strengths as opposed to a young guy with a fancy offense that Kaep may fail to execute.

There's something to be said for promoting from within when you are a successful team with an established culture. I wonder what this means for Fangio though. Having a guy who was below you in the organization being made your boss would rub a lot of guys the wrong way.
Supposedly Fangio getting passed over means he's out of SF and potentially into Washington. Because let's face it, he's a big name right now and big names get paid here. But no, let's hire the guy from the 0-16 Lions. I would have been really happy with Wade Phillips...but no, 0-16 Lions allegedly leading the pack.

The "Gase is just Peyton's puppet!" schtick is so misguided.
Regardless, it's look now like it's actually going to be Tomsula. I'd much rather have Gase. I think a "defensive-minded" coach is the wrong direction for a team who clearly doesn't need an identity on defense.
