Knoxville radio is saying Peyton told the Broncos to proceed as if he isn't coming back because he can't commit yet, and Elway isn't going to rush and hire Gase so I bet if the 49ers want him they get him.

Then some poor division will have to deal with Offensive Coordinator / QB Coach Manning, and the pain he can bring will continue. Manning's body might be done, but the mind is going to continue to bedevil defenses from the sideline. You read about players commenting on it every now and then, he is such a bastard to play against because he is like an extra coach out there right on the field.

If he can train others in the Jedi ways, some team is going to be very very lucky, and I can't see him just walking away from football forever.
Manning's not going to coach. Dungy is on record saying he doesn't think its something Peyton would be interested in and knows he's far too emotional and invested to handle it. Not to mention that its been widely reported that his retirement interest is in the front office with an ownership stake in the team. More like an Elway style. He won't go down to the sidelines and tell his staff how to coach, I can't see him being that kind of Dan Snyder level arrogant and stupid.

To be noted Peyton gets like 20 mill next year if he plays.

Even a super rich, proud man would come back and play like dick for 20m

Peyton supposedly wants to be an executive with an ownership stake in the Titans. It was one of their big pitches when he was a free agent and he's been linked to multiple groups who will have interest when Bud's kids decide to sell. His wife owns a minority stake in the Memphis(where she's from) Grizzlies and their offseason home has been in Tennessee his entire career.

Will Peyton Manning retire? QB linked as potential owner of NFL team - CBSSports.com

Phil Fulmer even hinted at it on the radio when he didn't choose the Titans to play for. Basically told the fans he would be surprised if Peyton didn't come back and work "in some NFL capacity" in Tennessee when he retired.

If Peyton owned the Titan's it'd be a real kick in the dick to Colt's fans. We're all sitting here dreaming of him coming in as an OC or QB Coach or something, as long as it's with the Colts. Seeing him in a booth cheering for a Colts loss twice a season... that don't feel right.

I hope he gets cut and goes to some really bad team like the Skins or Tampa or Jacksonville and just destroys for one year, gets to the playoffs, and then retires. Like a major "it was me, not you" kind of statement.

I've heard it from a few places that Manning has been adamant about not coaching. He's too competitive and too much a perfectionist.

So front office of Tennessee would be tragic but kicking ass on field in the division with Jacksonville would be epic?

Yes. I didn't say he'd have to be the AFC South division winner. Maybe just a wildcard. I'd much rather root for Peyton on the field slinging the ball with a broken body than in a skybox eating buffalo wings with a button down shirt and a 30lb paunch.

Ryan will put his own mark on the defense and Roman is a well respected OC. They're in no worse shape than they were previously. Hell, they might even lure a few FAs to Buffalo just based on Ryan being there (peopledolike playing for him).

People liked playing for him and being million dollar athletes in New York.. while they might still like rex I kinda wonder if Buffalo is a deal breaker.

Well, as the saying goes, "those who can't do, teach". That's why you'll rarely see the best players at their position in coaching roles. And for the few of those that are, they usually don't have very good track records.

I urge anyone and everyone to read "Slow Getting Up" by Nate Jackson. Its a really fun and easy read and a great look into the life of players in the modern NFL. Reason I bring it up this time is that he has some parts where he goes into different kinds of coaches. How in Denver Kubiak was a really smart guy and good to the players but as a former clipboard holder he never really could relate to what the player actually goes through. He also raves about Shanahan's style of dealing with people and absolutely shits on his experience with Mangini's reign of terror in Cleveland.

Anyway, pretty much says there's a good chunk of coaches like Kubes in the league who have a great head for X's and O's but fail to really grasp what its like to be a player and actually execute the schemes on an individual level.

Dave Dameshek had an interesting theory on his podcast about Peyton. He says that the old man Peyton in Denver is just sort of ill suited for the playoffs because even though he has gotten so smart, his body can't execute at the level it once could, so during the regular season he is able to beat teams with trickery even though he can't play to the level of the best QBs anymore but by the playoffs his lack of mobility and inability to throw as accurately doesn't hold up vs. top defenses at the top of their game, not to mention the coaches have had the whole season to study him and learned a few of his tricks.

I don't think that applies to the end of this season though. His body just let him down and he hasn't been able to play very well for the last 2 months. Whether or not he can get back into shape for another season is definitely questionable, but obviously Denver isn't going to cut him so he may come back just to try for a few more records and such. Denver probably isn't going to win the superbowl next year with or without him so there's really no harm done if he wants to play one more year.

I think the fact that Elway is going after Kubiak and/or his protege Dennison also speaks to knowledge that Manning is retiring. Kubiak's system has the QB rolling out on bootlegs a whole lot and that doesn't seem like it would jibe well with grandpa Petyon under center.

Ok so explain the rest of his career suckage during the post season?
