Well, cheating is something you have to stomp on. At the end of the day, rapists, child/wife beaters, and so on still entertain people on the field and add to the "any given sunday" mystique. If it ever looks like people are looking the other way with cheating, then the fans break faith and it starts to degenerate into the equivalent of professional wrestling. The off field conduct stuff and PED use SHOULD be punished more, no doubt, but nothing loses fan confidence faster than letting cheating slide, especially if it is a team at the top of the game. One is reminded of how tarnished baseball became by the roid scandals and how long it took to recover from that (if the game even has). When you have a group of people constantly on the shady side of stuff, while winning championships, then this is your best chance to make an example out of them to discourage others from pulling the same shit.
