We all said that about the Xbox One, we were wrong.
All the bullshit about graphics was fucking white noise to a lot of people. They wanted to keep their achieves and the IP's on the bone were way more valuable to consumers. Best game so far on either console is KI. It's always ben about the games.

I'm good with rocking Samus.

Edit: You didn't just take $60 and multiply it by units sold, right?
It's not my data, just a copy pasta

Well, the devs usually get only 1/3rd of that. But it's still pretty good money. Enough to pay for a TESO.
Considering the state of the game, I could think of countless other ways to use that cash. Starting with using it for kindling for a Christmas bonfire.

Total Skyrim units sold 20,270,000
Total Skyrim sales revenue $1,290,000,000
yeah. 20.27m at $60 each would be $1,216.2m
so, that figure is saying they made MORE then $60 on each copy. $63.6 each

DLC?

This is where he got that number.

The thing with that is, dev, producer and merchant.

Bethesda game studios. Studio.
Bethesda softworks. producer

They self publish. although, I dont know the corporate structure. They may be more or less independent, and functionally, a traditional financial relationship. Or may have more shared interest.

Skyrim didn't ask you for a credit card and bill you $15 per month to play. Using those sales numbers for TESO is overly optimistic.

Developers don't get anywhere near $60 of the box sales even with DLC (I love to see % of buyers that even bother with DLC). Comparing an entire gaming platform like the 360 / One vs a game franchise is just retarded. One vs PS4 or Android vs Iphone is almost religious at this point. Far harder to skip an ecosystem you've been tied to for nearly a decade or more than a shitty game even from a traditionally great franchise.

If anything TOR would be a better substitute for comparison. Tor was a better game as well. I actually got a few full runs through Tor. Many of the stories were actually pretty solid. Certainly not a good game or all it could of been but a better game in the end when compared to TESO.

Zenimax had a license to print money with this opportunity. So here is to waiting for a Fall Out MMO. Hopefully they learn their lesson and don't remove all the open world elements and many of the combat options because those are big reasons people even bother with these games.

Hate to rain on your parade, but Rich Vogel is behind the new Fallout MMORPG. It's free to play at least, or will be - but don't expect much out of this clown or anyone else he hires on via the buddy system at Battlecry.

More relics hiring more relics. And so it all begins again

ZM has their collective heads firmly jammed up their own ass for hiring Firor/Sage at ZO, and Rich Vogel to lead BC studios.

What a waste of time. money, and more importantly, a game that could be fun to play with people behind it that are not completely 100% fucking inept.

Of course those sales numbers for Skyrim are overly optimistic... And everyone knows developers don't get 100% of box sales.

The point is, the IP is extremely strong. The best selling Star Wars game of all time (LegoSW: the complete saga) was a child's game that was on 4 platforms and sold 60% of what Skyrim did.

yeah. Have to specify by media, and even then its not quite a good comparison.
Its silly to say starwars IP vs TES IP.

I mean lets use another example.

Twilight as a franchise versus starwars.

A Twilight movie, a twilight book and a Twilight video game.
Vs.
A starwars movie, book and video game.

Starwars is a bit stronger movie franchise (after episode 3.)
Twilight books will outsell starwars books though. (uh.. probably, i dont actually have any idea how well starwars books sell... and if you count comics and shit, really the volume of starwars material might be so high, its profit is higher, and thus value as a franchise...)
Starwars video games will outsell twilight games by a large margin.

Starwars as a whole is much larger of course. But TES as a singular game series is stronger.
Starwars does not have a singular series. If rogue squadron, jedi knight, xwing/tie fighter, lego, etc were built as singular brand-able franchises it might be a discussion. but starwars does not have a singular "flagship" game series. like a final fantasy, mario, zelda, etc.

But this also works against TES. TESonline is a spinoff. NOT part of the main series. suggesting it will sell the same as Skyrim is absurd. TES6 will sell as well as skyrim. This spinoff, won't.

Including all the copies that were sold months after the game came out, when it's 50% discounted on Steam or something.

While somewhat true, Star Wars has a lot of games and not all of them are considered strong showings for the franchise. The TES franchise has never really had a spin off and their games have increased in popularity with new releases. TESO has a strong chance of solid sales just based off prior excellence. Star Wars is also a much older franchise with a lot of failure at several levels. TES has only produced excellence for a while now.

Star Wars is nowhere near as strong as The Elder Scrolls in video game land.
ZO's marketing blast with Pete Hines behind it will pretty much guarantee everyone who bought Skyrim will buy this. They are going to pull the wool over the eyes of the general gaming public and they don't give a shit at this point.

Sooner or later, all good companies fall. For Zenimax Media, that time is now. And Bethesda will end up getting fucked in the process.

Thanks Mr. Hines for shitting all over your own IP when you bastards should have never hired these ass clowns to begin with - and once you all made the same mistake with Vogel... it's fairly clear you are placing all your IP's in burn mode.

yeah, the best comparison is of course Final fantasy.
While that has been dwindling and TES is on the way up of course.

But, someone get numbers for FF 7-10 sales and compare to FF 11's subs/sales.
And then do the same for 12/13 compared to FF14's subs/sales.

WoW of course may have been a good comparison in the past. that is even a further jump from rts to mmo. But might be too far back in the past to really make a comparison.

It is hard to make comparisons I agree. FF is on the way down and several missteps over the years for Square only increased this fall. Square was constantly changing the series with less than stellar results as time progressed.Top 10 in Sales - Final Fantasy - VGChartz. Follow that with a very demanding MMO, then a spectacularly bad first release of 14, and then finally add in bored MMO players who are willing to play anything different for a few months...and the picture gets extremely jumbled. I think the combination of TES being at it's probable maximum popularity ever(IMO of course), bored MMO players wanting a 3 month fix, and the console release all point to very good sales early. I think this game is part of what will erode some of this brand's popularity though.

The game ain't good... But it's not an absolute abortion either. It's gonna come out and review at 8.5/10 even though it deserves a 6.5. A ridiculous number of people will purchase, and then after 90 days, a ridiculous amount will unsub. ZO is gonna make their money back and then some, provided the game launches clean and playable.

And another nail will be driven into the coffin of MMORPGs.

Personally, Morrowind Online would have been far more appealing to me. Just Morrowind with better character models. That game was insane and had a fantastic vibe to it. Not sure why they deviated and did the whole spin off with ESO

Well if this game caused FO4 to be delayed and/or the supposed 2 other Skyrim DLCs to be cancelled that sucks.
