I don't think people were expecting it to be so front-loaded with the very positive audience reception. There's a chance it may not have the legs marvel was probably hoping for.

Yea that was a weird thing to say, hes one the most sought after actors in Hollywood.

Oh I'm not saying he's broke or anything, just saying he's not a huge leading man in films in my opinion. He was good in the Sherlock Holmes movies but mostly because he bounced off Jude Law, and I would hardly call Oppenheimer a "RDJ film", he's not even on the poster, appears 8th on the cast on a Google search, it's more like a huge ensemble cast. That's where I think RDJ shines, when he's interacting with other characters, he is often memorable in films even with a small part (Zodiac for example) or really shines with a good cast around him to bounce off of. I think his only really "main star" film where he really shines is probably Iron Man, and even there I'm not sure how great it would be without Jeff Bridges.

If I had to compare RDJ to another actor, probably Johnny Depp in the last 20 years.. he's just playing the same character in every film.

I don't think RDJ has the power to draw droves of people into theaters just based on being the main star of a film, unlike say, Tom Cruise. Not outside of the MCU, at least.

That's what I meant by "solo career", he's probably not going to try to distance himself from the MCU again because it didn't really pay off, just like Chris Evans who is also returning to the MCU apparently. Marvel is what made them into huge stars, but they don't really work well elsewhere, not so well that they can do without the huge Disney paychecks.

Maybe it’s just me, but while Pedro’s acting was good, the characterization of Reed felt off to me. He seemed really meek and soft spoken.

I’ve always thought of Richards as a cool and confident college professor

Definitely not just you, Reed felt very subdued and meek as you said. I'm not sure if they told Pedro Pascal to tone it down to let the other actors have their moments (especially since the idea was to let Sue have a leader role, and Kirby isn't known for being particularly bombastic on screen so maybe they needed a really soft spoken male presence).

Human Torch also felt very asexual, even though they played on his attraction to the Silver Surfer chick, it was a far cry from the much more sexualized jokes of the earlier movies about Fantastic Four (chicks looking at Mr Fantastic's elongating fingers with wide eyes, Jessica Alba having to strip to be fully invisible in the street, Chris Evans' Human Torch trying to fuck every chick he sees). Times have changed but I thought they could have had a little more tongue-in-cheek fun about some stuff.

Granted, this movie happens 4 years after they initially received their powers, for all we know maybe Mr Fantastic spent the first 2 years in grey sweatpants with a 2 liter Coke bottle hanging in front, but in this story he looked like an emotionally-vulnerable number-crunching nerd and not much more than that.

Saw the movie this morning. It wasn't great, but I'd give it a 7 or 7.5/10. All in all it was a decent flick. Not woke bullshit so that was a huge plus.

Characters:
Reed - He needed more confidence but overall Pascal did a good job.
Sue - Glad they showed how strong she actually can be. She is the deadliest of the team by far.
Johnny - Felt his character was probably the worst of the bunch. Not his acting, but the actor himself just doesn't set the standard of a Johnny Storm looks wise. Chris Evans had this in spades during his younger years.
Ben - Thought they pulled off the Thing about as well as you possibly can. I did like the interactions between both Johnny and Ben throughout the movie.
Galactus - Nailed the visuals.
Surfer - Not bad, but needed a chick with bigger tits and a nicer ass. I have no issue with the surfer being female, just need more visual glory to go with her metal suit.

Overall - worth seeing. Curious how they will use Franklin going forward as dude is so overpowered he can really reset anything they need from a timeline/storyline going forward for Marvel.

I have not seen the new superman yet, might wait until i can just watch from home.

Some of these comments are interesting. I don't think they've seen any of the interviews, or outside material.

pedro pasqual is not charming, or anything. the dude is more soy then mark ruffalo, and gives off major sex pest/sneaky dick vibes, constantly touching his female coworkers for "anxiety".
I'd think he was gay, if not all the touching of his female coworkers.

soy cuck Reed is 100% pedro's doing.

Paint by numbers Soyslop. Whoever said this movie was designed by committee was spot on. Sadly the bar is set so low from previous Fantastic Four movies that this one seems great by comparison.

Plenty of woke shit but it seems the generation of Funko Pop retards have been conditioned enough that they don’t even see it anymore

Pedro isn’t Reed Richard’s, also instead of reed being a super genius he is the goofy dad punchline throughout 1/2 the fucking movie.

Gender swap Silver Surfer is high treason level faggotry

Sue Storm being Mary Sue levels of girl power for her Son is retarded. The fact that the Silver Surfer would shit stomp all of them with ease and you are gonna pretend that Glactus is such a American Inventor pussy loser that Sue fucking Storm can even see him. Eat my whole ass.

The press for this movie was peak cringe. And Pedro had a lot to do with that-- surprised it didn't hurt the box office.

Any suggestions for movies where she looks good / not the heroin addict ones?

That was the main reason I had to see it too, could echo this sentiment exactly.

I thought the same thing when Guardians of the Galaxy first came out, that they were going to probably get obliterated by Thanos at the end to set up his arrival soon. At the time there was little expectation that GOTG would be a moneymaking powerhouse franchise. They were just a bunch of jobbers that were connected to Thanos, so naturally I assumed they were there to put him over. Similar situation now with Doom and the FF pocket universe.

Wonder if they're ever going to try to bring Kang back, or if Galactus is going to be a major phase villain (assuming they don't kill him off inside of one movie, lol). Unless they're going to keep Dr. Doom around for a while (i.e. beyond Secret Wars) but I'm not sure how many of these RDJ actually wants to do. He didn't show up for FF.
Dude, just Google her name plus the word nude like a non boomer. Watching a 2-hour movie just to see a little bit of one woman nude seems wacky. This isn't the 80s.

Did, she seems WAY less attractive in general than she did in that one picture where she was legit gorgeous. Looks like a heroin addict in most of the image results. Kinda over it already.

At this point I almost think Pedro is some kind of psyop to get men to think quiet meekness is the new cool way to be.

the more you think about the movie the more you probably will think less of it. Its biggest flaw is also its biggest strength, its entirely self contained. You don't need to know anything about Marvel before you see this, there are no external/past/future characters that come into the movie until the post stinger, and the movie does absolutely nothing really to set up future events (except for a 30 second stinger).

Thats good, but it also means nothing really changes as a Marvel fan after watching this. No real setups for anything, no expansion of character lore, there isn't really much depth to any character here. Its what we have been asking for a while, a self contained Marvel movie without bullshit fringe around it, but I'm not really sure thats enough

Its my own fault maybe, I was expecting at least SOME big "wow" moment to lead into Doomsday. I legit thought the F4 world was gonna be killed off by Galactus and the F4 team has to escape to the sacred timeline and the only question was how/why but thats kinda on me for expecting too much?

Anyways looks like the movie is gonna do slightly better than superman dom, and maybe a lot better internationally. Be interesting to see which movie has better legs.

Someone probably beat me to this, but the F4 ship shows up entering the Earth 616 area in one of the post credit scenes in Thunderbolts*. I'd have to go back and try and do the year math, but they end up in our part of the Multiverse pre Doomsday

The Thunderbolts post credits scene is 14 months after the end of Thunderbolts, and the F4 ship appears above main MCU Earth. The F4 post credits scene is 4 years after the main movie.

Both post credit scenes were filmed on the set of Avengers Doomsday by the Russo Bros, its been confirmed its really RDJ under the mask, and timeline wise its fine since there is an obvious time jump (universe jump too) from F4 to Doomsday. I just wish F4 had done a little more bridging the movies.

Its really a repeat of Infinity War - Thor Ragnarok ended with the Asgardians on their ship looking for a new planet, Infinity War begins with Thanos in possession of one stone already (destroyed Xandar and took it from the Nova Corps) and we see him destroying the Asgardians for the second stone. Doomsday may start in a similar way with Doom collapsing universes.

Naw, it's more like "confirmed bumbling oaf". I've always drawn attention, regardless. Put me in a group of people and I'm the one the police talk to when they show up, I'm the one that gets in trouble with the teacher, etc etc etc. Not sure how to be invisible.

Sounds like FF is a better movie than Superman overall? So I'll prolly give my ticket money to FF and sneak over to Supes after that.

That and James Gunn looks like a post-op Rachel Maddow.

Actually, The best superhero I have seen on screen this year has been Mr. Terrific
His scenes in Superman were great and his fight was the highlight of that movie

Mr Terrific.jpg

See, you can have actually great new hero's that are black and not just race swapped characters (Captain African America) and they can be popular with fans.
Although Guy Gardner was pretty great too

alright live review time, feel free to ignore if you wish, fuck i'll put the whole thing in a spoiler.

so far it's a very grounded, family oriented, serious film.

the live action Jetson's aesthetic is really good. The quick way they handle the origin story recap along with the touching moments between the characters really makes you feel like you've already known these characters for a while and they definitely feel like they've been working together as a team for years. (Take note Gunn, if you are going to start a movie in the middle, this is how you do it.)

first nitpick, why the fuck would you take your heavily pregnant wife into space? So far every single scene has been about reed being super overprotective worrying dad to be, baby proofing everything, running every test he can think of to make sure his baby is going to be healthy, worried about the damage to their DNA from their encounter with cosmic rays, there's no way on earth he would take his pregnant wife to space even to face galactus, it only makes sense because the plot needs it to happen.

goddamn, they got Galactus right at least. fucker is just...imposing. terrifying.

And the surfer as well, actually showcasing her power.. This whole wormhole chase / blackhole fight is pretty good...great visuals.

"Your child will be born with the power cosmic, he will inherit my throne, give him to me and I shall spare your world"
"Nah, our child will be normal. We're going to take him into space and give birth to him while slingshotting around a blackhole at 0.88% the speed of light then quantum tunnel into FTL travel, he'll totally be a normal kid with no weird powers at all"

Reed does the dumb smart guy thing (you see this in the trailer, its just as dumb in the movie).
"hey earth, yeah galactus is going to kill everyone unless we give him our baby. we told him to fuck off, he's on the way here now to kill everyone. we have no plan at all on how to deal with this"
IDK is this just a thing that reed richards does? This harkens back to John krasinski's reed telling scarlet witch how to beat black bolt.

Sue is a little bit girl boss, people excuse it due to mom strength or whatever but you can tell how the story unfolds this was clearly setup for ultra girl boss but they must of "fixed" it in reshoots but you can tell it's still there. her little speech to win over the angry crowd is evidence of this.

the pacing is a bit off. clearly they return back to earth (1 month, we'll ignore time dilation even though they used time dilation/spaghettification to trick silver surfer and escape from the black hole...) and galactus's ship is super slow moving / sub-light.
So we jump forward in time like, at least 6 months, the baby is older, still no plan, the world is going to shit because everyone knows they're going to die.
ok galactus is suddenly in the solar system so I guess his ship isn't sub light, just slow FTL? ok whatever. But reed finally has a plan.
In the time it takes galactus' ship to travel from Jupiter to Mars he has rolled out his plan and everyone on earth has banded together rosie the riveter style to build all these teleport bridges...seems to be at least a month at least, but realistically it must have been at least 2-6 months.

let's say 1 month...for galactus to travel 550 million KM (avg distance between Jupiter and Mars). But they were just on another planet like 30 light years away (or however far) when they met with Galactus so...

lets say its just 4 light years away, literally the minimum distance to another star from us but we know that's not the system they were at, but ignore that. That's 38 trillion km. at the speed of 550mil km per month, it would take Galactus 70k months, or 5800 years?

only makes sense if he FTLs in his ship to the edge of the solar system and then just jason vorhee's style slow walks towards earth. but why? if he knows his ship's sublight speed is so fucking slow why would he FTL to around pluto and just walk towards earth over a year or so? whatever its a comic movie despite wanting to be grounded in science it never will be...whatever.

Grimm's beard is a nice touch, lol he shave's with an angle grinder haha

fucking 3rd marvel movie in a row where they convince the bad guy to stop using emotional blackmail because they can't stop them physically? But ok, yeah it totally makes sense why they used the female silver surfer for this. I mean they did the same thing in Rise of the Silver Surfer, but Norran Rand spared the earth because Jessica Alba's fine ass titties, not because of any emotional outburst.

So far every character is getting their time in and seem to be pretty archetypical. Johnny's clearly a recovering womanizer, grimm is good with kids, reed is super smart and spends half the movie doing math to solve problems. Sue is well...a bit mary sue but again, that seems to be lingering DNA from the original version, they've seemingly cut as much of that out as they can but it still shines through. you can tell with all the quick jump edits.

ok their "plan" well every plan, but especially this last plan, is really dumb. Like they assume a bunch of shit. They think because he likes his slow ass moving ship that he needs this ship to travel in space? All they know about him is that he's some giant space god who predates the fucking universe and his ship is made out of materials that are from before the big bang. like ok, they don't fucking know if he can teleport or fly or fucking anything. Reed your dumbass just invented teleportation you think they space god who is over 13.8 billion years old can't teleport?

Like ok, he can't sure, but reed doesn't actually know this. He's using his baby as bait based on having read the fucking script? because there is no way that he would just assume this.

Ok whatever, its here because it sets up the amazing shot of Galactus walking around new york godzilla style. i get it, but plot holes matter.

And the swap out? the only thing you do know about galactus is that he can scan through time and fucking space and see whatever he wants. he saw your baby through a fucking wormhole while it was still inside Sue and knew instantly what he was going to become, you think you can swap out the carseat with a fake? like what? I figured the plan was to have johnny fly in at the last second and grab franklin as reed turned on the Teleporter. The one thing galactus isn't is fast, you could of easily rescued him in time? if you are supposed to be so smart, why is your plan so dumb?

holy shit when galactus throws the thing into fucking space, chef's kiss.

Ok again, why does Sue think that her invisibility affects Galactus? he's seen through it every single time before? Again like the one thing we've established is his goddamn gaze can see you, stop trying to pull a fast one.

Ok here comes the Mom strength to save the baby. Honestly don't have a problem with Sue's power level and the way this scene plays out. It's actually fine all the way up until fucking silver surfer stops Johnny's sacrifice play to save the day, that part is kinda cringe.

I totally get why there's accusations of woke, and I also get why people defend it.

Truth is Johnny isn't powerful enough to have done shit, burned his eyebrows maybe? he wasn't going to be able to push Galactus into the portal. While silver surfer's power level has been shown she could of easily done it.

its the way it unfurls and plays out where she has to heroically jump in and push him out of the way in order to save the day. Reminds me of hawk eye black widow fight where they go back and forth on who gets to sacrifice themselves for the soul stone? There was no need to set it up like that. Just stealing johnny's thunder for no reason. They've established the whole film that he's been spending time learning her language, making breakthroughs with her, able to communicate with her and get her to switch sides. Could of easily set it up so that he reaches out to her for help with their plan over and over and his persistence finally pays off and she swoops in at the last minute to help. give Johnny the heroic moment without shitting on him.

This film, its plot beats, is structurally almost identical to Rise of the Silver surfer lol. Silver Surfer defeats galactus and sue storm dies at the end, only to be brought back to life by the power cosmic. ok its franklin doing it in this film not the silver surfer but like story boards these are scene for scene comparable lol.

I know it's just for a laugh, them putzing around with the car seat, but they are literally taking their baby with them on some world threatening alert they have no idea how dangerous it's going to be. i mean come on.

I know i'm mostly bitching but actually, film is pretty good overall.

Overall i'd give this a 6.5/10. Mind you I use a real rating scale because I understand what average means unlike you retards who won't go below a 5/10 rating no matter how much you hate something. so 6.5 is overall pretty good.

Visuals are incredible, not just the retro style but all the space shit with the black holes, all the galactus stuff, all the surfer stuff. amazing visuals.
Plot has a few retarded things "it has to happen this way for the story to continue" moments but they are forgivable.
lots of ghost of DEI past artifacts still present in the film. they are mostly excusable, its clear they tried to remove a lot which is why you end up with some janky edits, but they are present if you want to see it and bitch about it. Whether it bothers you or not, you're right.
