This crazy ass show is my favorite thing on TV right now. Second season really stepped it up.
Everything from the end of the previous episode was seriously unexpected. I assumed they'd go with the same level of cock-tease from season 1, but apparently not.

Just watched both seasons overt the holidays.

W T F ?

I never watched Lost so i have no preconceived notions of what this might be but i feel like i know nothing about this show after 20 episodes.

I couldn't even begin to try to guess where this will go in season 3

Yeah, and season 3 is suppose to be the final season. Will be interesting to see how they try/fail to explain everything and wrap it up. I have a feeling it will make the LOST ending look like Shakespeare.

At this point if you're watching anything by Lindelof and expect any kind of satisfying conclusion to any of the mysterious plot points you're setting yourself up for disappointment. You just have to except the fact that nothing will ever be explained. Find enjoyment in atmosphere of the show and the characters because everything else will just leave you pissed off.

I stopped watching this after 5th episode in season 1, did something happen to make this worthy of watching?

Season 2 was significantly better than season 1
Yeah I thought so as well, and I agree with HUH, I watch this show for the world/atmosphere (I really do think its an interesting concept). But yeah, with Lindelof its always the journey and never the destination. Kind of like Stephen King now that I think about it.

I can't deal with this show. A bunch of people I hate, doing nothing that matters, with no eventual goal or resolution. Season 2 was better than Season 1, but still, nothing happened. The international spy episode was about the biggest waste of an hour of television in history.

I'll watch season 3 but I'm going to hate every minute of it.

How can they not find someone to pair Lindeloff with that can fix his obvious shortcomings?

All they need is someone that let's him do his crazy and at when he mentions the word "twist" or "ending" the person just says "I'm going to stop you right there, Damon."

The spy/hotel episode was the highlight of the series so far, IMHO

Hold on, let me put this in spoilers just in case...

Why? He was never actually dead, you knew that, I knew that. Nothing he did in there mattered. At all. It was an hour of meaningless interactions that had no real world implications that were always going to arrive at him somehow coming back to life. I completely get what they were going for and how they built it up with the showdown. But it didn't require all that time of meaningless bullshit. It wasn't even particularly poignant in imagery. Like.... nothing happened. At no point did you (me) wonder how this was going to impact him or the characters as a whole. Was it purgatory? Was it a dream? Who cares. He came back to life, walked around for a bit, then got shot in the chest. Then we do the hotel again! Only this time some karaoke!

I'm obviously more critical about this than it deserves. But the wife and I just sat there bored to tears because we knew none of it mattered at all. And it was so hamfisted we just laughed at anything that could have been accidentally significant. Eh, that episode just pissed me off.

I agree with all this. Throughout the show I'm struggling to find any interesting twists and turns, interactions or characters.
SURPRISE NO BOMB? Yeah, no shit. SURPRISE! Kids are alive! Who fucking cares? They were in the show for 7 seconds.

Whole show is meh.

I saw this got renewed for a third season and starting up sometime soon. I watched about half of first season and none of second. I tried reading the wikipedia synopsis to catch up and I honestly couldn't make heads or tails of that mess. Is there someone here that watched both seasons that can put together a comprehensible summary of this show?

One day a chunk of the worlds population just disappears. No rhyme or reason. No explanation.

The show focuses on how different people have dealt with the grief trauma and pain

Season one follows the Garveys And Nora as they deal with their issues a few years later, and over time their issues are revealed. A big part of the show is how in the wake of the events, many cults formed as people lose their minds and try to find reason. Why did certain people disappear, why didn't others?

Mom Garvey has left her family and joined on of the cults. This cult doesn't speak, wears white, and smokes. They say they want to make the world remember, and think people have tried to move on. In their opinion there is no moving on, the world ended and everyone trying to go on with life are fooling themselves. It's revealed she is crazy because she finally was able to get pregnant at an older age, and was at a sonogram during the rapture, and the unborn baby disappeared in front of her.

Dad Garvey is trying to deal with his wife abandoning their family for the cult. He is the chief of police. He has begun having psychotic episodes, something his father experienced. His father is currently in a looney bin, and he is trying to save his sanity, while serving as police chief, and getting his life together. He meets Nora and they fall in love. He clashes with the cult, and kidnaps the leader of his wife's cult. The leader kills herself in front of him, he's never able to get a handle on his psychotic breaks. We find out he was cheating on his wife during the rapture and the women proofed whil he was banging her. His guilt and trauma from that, led with him feeling the failed his family and it's his fault they are all scattered and damaged, leads to his breaks.

Son Garvey was at a school even with daughter Garvey and several people disappeared right in front of them. Son Garvey joins a cult led by Holy Wayne, a pedophile who claims to be able to take the sadness and pain away flrom anyone through hugs. Think Green Mike guy but evil. The Feds raid the compound and Son Garvey is forced to flee and protect a pregnant underage girl carrying the cult leaders baby. Over the season he realizes it's all bullshit, But eventually is left alone with the baby, and Holy Wayne is killed by cops.

Daughter Garvey has become a bit of a nihilist since she saw people poof and her mom abandons her. She eevtnually tries to join the cult to get her mom back.

Nora is the love interest of Dad Garvey. She lost her husband, son and daughter during the rapture, and having three in a family makes her a bit of a celebrity in the rapture culture. She cannot let go of the guilt and pain and cannot let herself be happy with Dad Garvey. Eventually she meets Holy Wayne and he takes her pain away, but she soon realizes that nothing will ever fix her.

Nora's has a reverend brother who tries to save his church from the cults, and also struggles with a comatose wife that was injured during the rapture. He helps Dad cover up the death of the cult leader. He loses his church, and still tries to save people from the cult, but cannot do anything,

Season one ends with their town being destroyed after the Moms cult pulls some terrible shit. The people of the town snap and destroy the cult and the town for the most part. It's a warZone. At the end, dad garvey and Nora meet up and find the Holy Wayne baby left by the son. They adopt the baby and try to pick up the pieces with daughter who they save from the attacks. Mom Garvey leaves the cult after all that happened, and meets with son and they flee to a new life outside of their cults.

That's season one in a nut shell. Mix in very sadness porn levels of grief and you have it. Well acted.

Season two sees dad G, Nora, baby and daughter move to a town in Texas that is now a holy land since they had no one raptured. Priest brings along his wife and she starts to come back to life inside the town. Son G and Mom G save people from cults by infiltrating and helping them get home. Then lots of shit goes down I can explain more later.

I think this gets a lot more flack than it should for the mystery stuff. That's really the only thing that isn't explained, and that's the point of the show. What happens to the world when they can't explain what happened, and how people process it.

It gets a lot of flack because it is filled to overflowing with terrible characters with no redeeming qualities and drawn out boring "sad porn" like you said. It isn't even entertaining from a schadenfreude point of view. But I'll hate watch season 3 just like I hate watched seasons 1 and 2.

Great write up though.

Season two picks up with everyone in Texas.

Dad Garvey is still crazy, and is being haunted by the cult leader who killed herself in front of him.

A bunch of girls from town are out swimming in a pond, when an earthquake happens. Girls disappear. Dad G wakes up near where they disappeared with no memory of the events of how he got there. He leaves prints at the scene that implicate him. He spends the season trying to rid himself of the ghost who haunts him, eventually killing himself in a way that is supposed to free him. Hes spends and episode i nthe afterlife finding his way back to living while also ridding himself of the ghost or wahtever she is.

Season focuses on what happened to the girls. Lots of drama where they slowly find clues to thinking Dad G was involved, but he wasnt. We eventually find out they faked their rapture to fuck with the town, and they joined the Cult from season 1, led by Liv Tyler who was Mom G's number two.

Priest Dr Who's wife wakes up from coma and they have sex. She falls back into coma and she is pregnant, causing issues with people thinking her raped her. He fights to keep her in the town because somehow it wakes her up, and season ends with her regaining consciousnesses and others seeing it, up until then no one believed him.

Cult causes town to be overrun by people who camp outside like hippies worshipping t hw town. Town has strict access security keeping those people out. They get in and destroy the town.

Mom G and Son G realize they cant save people from cults without giving them something else to take its place. So they make their own cult to lure people from the other cults and try to return them to their old lives.
