I saw this movie tonight at a free screening, absolutely loved it. 9/10 for me, my second favorite movie of the year after Mad Max. Awesome "science-y" and nerd movie, but doesn't get bogged down in star trek technobabble. It corrects what I hated in Interstellar and Prometheus, which was scientists doing stupid shit for plot reasons. The scientists in this movie are scientists and smart, finally.

wife has read the book but I haven't, she also liked it and really recommended I read the book asap, which I will.

The screening was in 3D but honestly I'd just recommend normal 2D, nothing really special in 3D and it was a bit distracting in a few scenes. The cinematography is insane and really makes it worthwhile to watch in a theater, although I'd be interested in any eventual UHD 4k bluray versions.

After the shit movies Ridley Scott has pumped out recently like Counselor, Prometheus, and Exodus this movie redeems him a little for me, and I have faint hopes for Prometheus 2 & 3. Not much, but faint.

If I hadn't already been sold on this before, that interview would have sealed it. I get the feeling that this is going to be the kind of realistic sci-fi movie that I had hoped Interstellar would be.

Only question is do I read the book before or after?

I wanted to watch the movie before I read the book, just to have everything unroll as something new for me. Plus when I read the book now I will have visual images in my mind of every character, instead of having characters not match what I think they should look like. Its apparently a very quick read too, like a few hours tops.

I'm reading this a second time and I'm finding it not as entertaining as the first. I guess that's because the book is straight up science porn. and just like regular porn, you grow weary after fap achievement unlocked. Still thought the book was great - just not second read through great.

Great movie material - so I'm sure the movie will rock.

Should have a mod change the title of the thread to the date the actual movie starts showing, which is tomorrow with a main release Friday October 2nd.

This and Star Wars will be the only movies I pay to see in a theater this year.

As much as I love the book, it's not really a "visual spectacle" in the way Star Wars and the OTHER real reason to pay 17 bucks for a bloated Imax ticket this year: Mad Max Fury Road.

I rented mad max and watched it on Bly Ray. Haven't seen the new James Bond. I have never really cared much about the series. This and Star Wars is on the must see in the theater list.

I paid $18 for an RPX ticket for the first showing tonight. They also game me a patch I'll never use. Neat? Pic of patch in spoiler tag.

I'm a nerd. I'd use that shit in a heartbeat at the next Gencon convention or some such. Working in an office full of computer engineers can be awesome at times.

audiobook is great, I couldnt stop listening.
First audible book I've actually bought. This is coming from someone who has access to just about every decent audiobook torrent out there and knew about the free version of the Martian etc.
