The wife and I are watching the show called The Killing. It takes two full seasons to solve the murder mystery. It’s one of those shows where just when you think you’ve figured out who the killer is, a new twist happens that clears them. Starting the third season (new story) now. We greatly enjoy it.

We got into the second season and dropped the show when they were still on that same murder. I mean come on. Those were the most incompetent detectives in the universe.

yeah, the killing was good. I do think it lost its way over time though. it did stay too long.

I watched it while i was texting the out of town girlfriend. I feel like I missed some key moments, like why is this dude in a Japanese prison? Why does he feel so drawn to join the yakuza? He KNOWS they don't really think of him as a real brother... why does the family head even bring him into the family in the first place?

I was entertained ONLY because I assumed those questions were answered and I missed it because I was only half paying attention. But I'm also assuming there were no answers

Just finished Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza 0 recently so of course I had to see the outsider to confirm my Yakuza expertise.

Its pretty terrible and I'm really very easygoing with movies, I thought Cloverfield Paradox and Mute and Bright were all ok. You could tell The Outsider really wanted to be Goodfellas but with Yakuza but it fails miserably. A good gangster/period movie should get you immersed in the period, culture, and people but I never really felt that at any point. You just kept wondering why the fuck this retarded ass white guy keeps getting a pass from everyone in Osaka, Japan in 1954.
Why the fuck do so many people in 1954 Japan speak English??? Why the fuck can't this guy learn Japanese??? Every character's action is just so bizarre and "ritualized" to the point it almost feels like a parody of Yakuza tropes.

Its also excruciatingly slow, like probably the slowest movie I have seen in a few years. Wouldn't really recommend anyone bother watching, I was kinda excited at the beginning to see a 1950s period piece in Japan which is not something I have seen (don't watch much foreign films) but even that failed to really deliver, most of the sets are just office rooms or nightclubs or docks.

Just watched Game over, man.

Didn't expect much, but actually did laugh. Very crude?\stupid humor, but fit my mood when I watched it. Kind of the standard R rated action comedy.

Currently watching Flint Town. Cop documentary where the moral of the story is Flint's problems go way beyond the water issue. Decent but basically just like that show COPS.

yeap. Im chuckling quite a bit. I had initially gave this a pass over, becusae the last movie with Adam Devine I saw on Netflix was god awful. (when we first met) seriously, totally a piece of shit.

Tried to watch Game Over, Man! and we ended up shutting it off shortly in. We love clever raunchy comedies but this was just on another level of terrible. The cameos were the best part of it.

yeah, it doesn't get better. if you weren't amused in the first 10 minutes, you won't suddenly find the rest funny.

If you don't like Workaholics you definitely will not like the movie. If you do like Workaholics you may or may not like the movie. Same type of humor but way more over the top.

Watching this now. pretty meh. half way through.

Solid acting, weak directing, and script.

Tone is first problem. It wants to be a physiological horror I think... but its doing a horrible job at it.
A big part of this is the script.
The movie constantly has these reveals as characters mutate, as if they are supposed to be creepy or something. Or, the doctors plans are revealed, and its supposed to seem sinister. But... its not. Everyone was briefed on what the plan was from the beginning.

Its fucking weird, as characters in the movie, act shocked and horrified by shit, they knew going in.
"we might die! I didn't sign up for this!" What the fuck are you talking about? that you might die, in last ditch effort to genetically restructure you, with UNTESTED bleeding edge science, to send you to another planet, was very clearly stated.
"my husband thinks, Ill go and come back and be a good wife." What the fuck? your husband, thinks you will be genetically transformed into a human fish person, sent to the moon Titan, and then come BACK, and be a housewife?
Domestic abuse wife was bizarre as well. As Piper just totally gaslights her. "my husband hits me, when I ask him to stay here with me." "well, you should support him, becuase you love him."

Piper. Similar on her character. Is a Doctor. again, they were very clear on what the point of this program was from the get go. "I'm a doctor, that amount of drug you are giving my husband is too high!" ugh, which part of genetic alteration do you not get? he breaths nitrogen, cant feel cold, etc... "zomg, they are splicing genes into these people!" again, what did you think the point of the program was?

Like, there is plenty of ways of creating drama, and physiological horror, like The Fly. But it needs to focus on the behavior. Not, these absurd reveals and implied sinister actions by the doctors, who are doing exactly what they said they would.
It needs to be more like Sunshine, where the problems come from failures. not some contrived clandestine actions.(except the end...) Alternatively, a much more adventurous approach, like Fat man and Little boy.

Edit: finished it.
And the final 3rd of the movie swaps to melodrama? I guess? yeah, tonal mess. this movie doesn't know what it wants to be.
long and a bit boring as a result.
