so gimple did some interviews and spoiled the season ending for non-comic readers

He has said, Carl's death is the reason Rick will spare Negan. the Carl/Negan and other Carl stories will still be there but with other cast.
i thought they would kill Negan just to not have to pay him

Not too surprising

During the last episode of the season, there is a scene of Carl and Rick walking and Carl asks Rick why there is this absolute "kill all saviors" thing and wondering if they really need to do that. Between that and the other stuff that has given Rick pause, not killing Negan would be Rick's way of honoring new Carl's memory. Old Carl would have bust a cap in Negan's ass lol

The Walking Dead Season 9 gets the green light with a new showrunner

AMC today made a number of announcements related to The Walking Dead, the highest-rated cable series in history and the #1 show on television for the last six seasons and counting. The series is being renewed for a ninth season, to premiere in late 2018; current showrunner Scott M. Gimple is being elevated to Chief Content Officer, overseeing the entire “Dead” television universe, including The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, and potential brand extensions on a variety of platforms; and Angela Kang, who has been a writer on the show since 2011 and co-executive producer since 2013, is being promoted by Gimple to executive producer and showrunner of The Walking Dead Season 9.
the show is on a downward spiral now. the best they can hope for is to slow it down some. since gimple already has this shitshow season mapped out, that means that Kang is going to have to somehow write an amazing 180 for next season. with AMC's budget i dunno if thats possible. they may just cut their losses figuring they had a hell of a run and its just time to wrap things up. i think its time TWD moves on to the next level and finds where those radio broadcasts and choppahs are originating from and see if that helps. if not, then this shit is over.

There is a beacon of hope here though in that "freedom"
The season will end somewhat as per comics. Negan is taken prisoner and Rick spares him. Now in the comics it jumps 2 full years and Negan is still with Rick. This gives the show the option of jumping 2 years or creating anything they want as long as most of the cast survives those 2 years. Near complete writing freedom to make any adventure they want. Who knows what they will do but it is a valid option.

Full verified spoiler is out for next Sunday's midseason premier.
I could post the spoiler but it is really quite simple. The entire episode is mostly flashbacks but it does explain those weird visions in the episode 1 we assumed Rick was having, it was actually Carl's.
There is a few scenes of other happenings but almost all the episode is visions, flashbacks and Carl ending himself

anyway, don't know if should be spoilering this or not, but more news

The Walking Dead’s
Lauren Cohan
has joined the ABC pilot for Whiskey Cavalier

could mean leaving the show or just reduced screen time

Not sure if Iny picarded me for not releasing full spoiler, the content of the show this weekend or if he was just upset.
I'm not upset but I realize I probably should have included full spoiler so here it is.
It'll be a feels episode if anyone here actually feels anything anymore.
Thank you to our awesome source. Episode 8.9 "Honor" Q & A. Buckle up and grab your Xanax and tissues, buttercups.

Does Carl say goodbye to everyone before he goes? What does he say?

He says his goodbyes to Rick and Michonne. We see that the flash-forwards from the first episode are actually Carl’s visions of how things could be if Rick stopped fighting. Rick promises Carl that he will “make them real."

How does Carl’s death play out? Who puts him down? Last words?

Carl kills himself inside the burned church with his own gun.

Who do we see react to Carl’s death? What are their reactions?

Rick and Michonne. They end up taking Carl to the burned church and leave him there alone after saying their goodbyes. When they hear the gunshot they completely break down, utterly devastated.

What happens during the flashback scenes with Carl?

These flashbacks show the moments from when he is bitten and the moments after. Carl knows he’s on borrowed time and tries to make the best out of the time he has left. So he writes several letters (to Rick, Michonne, Enid, etc). He takes lots of Polaroids with Judith so that she will have a visual reminder of her big bro. He also plants a tree.

Does Ezekiel get rescued? How?

Yes! Carol and Morgan to the rescue. They wipe out all the Saviors that were at the Kingdom. Henry actually kills Gavin.

Do we find out how the Saviors escaped the Sanctuary?

Yes. It was Eugene’s plan. They basically shot down walkers from the windows of the Sanctuary. The bodies piled up and created some kind of barricade which opened up a path for some of the Saviors to escape.

What’s going on with Dwight? Does Laura make it back to rat him out?

We don't find out. There are no scenes at the Sanctuary except for the flashback scene.

What happens at Oceanside with Enid and Aaron?

We don't see them in this episode.

Do we see anything at the Hilltop in this episode?

No.

What happens to Siddiq? Does he escape to Hilltop with the rest of them?

Yes, he leaves with everyone. They all escape except for Rick and Michonne who stay behind with Carl.

fuck me, I've been watching this show weekly since the start and I honestly have zero idea who half those people in your spoiler are. I gotta get out of this.

All said and done, I won't miss Maggie. I'll miss the Lauren Cohan eye candy more. If I was any actor on this show outside Rick, Darryl, and Carol, I wouldn't make too many waves. They got rid of Carl and I am sure most people thought he was pretty much bulletproof.

With AMC being so cheap, and with all the actors this show has atm, it's the main reason we get so many "nothing happens" episodes. They are gonna have to do some house cleaning and start killing off the higher paid actors and actresses.

Don't feel bad, I had to think about it as well to figure who they were. They are really bad about that.

We'll see how this plays out for them. Carl is still alive and a primary character in the comics which is years ahead of these events.
It won't go over well with that fan base which is probably small but history has shown when you piss off your most hardcore, you might as well start digging a hole for yourself to save someone else the troubles.

More interesting to me is if they did this, what other surprises are in store. I feel they should go full retard and take the story completely away from comic events at this point due to it. Which changes everything.

Man, that would really fuck up Rick.
Zombies
Angry men with baseball bats
Aliens

A perfect shit storm for sure.
You could probably tell people to kill themselves and it would be the only situation where it was a complement.

yep, its the predictable route of many shows that have been on the air for far too long. although some shows tried to do it sneakylike and disguised "ALIENS!" as gods. the next step is "it was all a dream". i think Lost just said, fuck it and used all those tropes to tie up their final seasons.
