The one Alamo Drafthouse I hit on a business trip didn't encourage me to search for them on any other trip.

That said, when their model has so few seats, and caters to higher income groups, that if they can't fill seats, that's a bad sign for the mass market.

Alamo Drafthouse used to be good about 10 years ago when they would actually kick people out for talking. Once they relaxed those standards, having waiters walk in front of me several times during a movie and the overpriced, underwhelming food stopped being worth it. Especially once other chains started getting the comfy chairs and letting you purchase your seats ahead of time. I'll go to Flix Brewhouse if I want the Alamo-type experience with pre-movie entertainment and alcohol. But I haven't done that since...pre-pandemic? Probably Endgame or something.

I used to go to the movies maybe 8-10 times a year. With at least 10-15 people for big releases, sometimes closer to 30. Last time I've been was 7 years ago now.

The only thing I'm missing at home is a heated butter dispenser because I can't be bothered at like $300 since we rarely even watch new movies at home now.

Even for movies I would watch, they're not good enough for me to care about waiting the couple weeks to hit streaming.

Pretend? I've never heard of it. We have sweet popcorn and salted popcorn. My wife says you can buy buttered popcorn at the supermarket, but I assume you pour it on fresh?

i say stuff, because i'm not actually sure thats butter. they call it "topping". my dad used to just splash it all over the popcorn and make the whole thing mushy. i could only eat a little of it before i started getting sick.

I think movie theaters are going the way of shopping malls. A friend and I used to go to the movies every couple weeks for years. Last movie I saw in the theater was SpiderMan No Way Home.

i put just a little bit when its only me, but i generally dont put a lot even when i'm home melting real butter. if done right, its really good. when you pour enough in to soak the bottom of the popcorn bag, its time to get checked at the doctor.

Saw this a few days ago, it was the first RLM video I've seen for a few years despite being subbed to them. I guess it goes to show how shit things have been in movies recently that nothing they posted seemed appealing.

It's an excellent video.

I've never seen a tap for melted butter at a cinema in Australia. Sounds kind of gross honestly.

Popcorn at the cinema here does come with salty butter on it, it's all done in one machine. You can't actually get plain popcorn there.

I have a popcorn maker at home which has a cup on top with a mesh bottom. You can put butter into the cup and it melts onto the popcorn during the popping process.

1:30pm Tue (Discount Day) - $6.72 regular theater and XD for $10.48

Weekend date nights are like 3 layers of premium cost.

We don't have melted butter at cinemas.

Our cinema popcorn comes as "sweet" or "salted". There's not that much difference as getting perfectly encrusted sweet popcorn pieces is like prospecting for gold. The alternative is packaged butterkist which is more caramelized.

The only time I've been served melted butter is in America at seafood buffet restaurants.
