So now I have seen , I believe 3 different "teaser/trailer/sneakpeeks" of this and each seems to want to make me think this is a different type of movie. Same feel I got off Captain African American : Brave New Grift.
I was hoping this would be something along the lines of an Earth-bound version of GotG, where eventually they'd realize who was running their program and have to make the "Do we really want to be heroes?" decisions. But now it, like everything in this phase of Marvel, seems to just be a generically produced "product" meant to get me to watch it and the subsequent films.
I'm starting to get more and more proud of the fact that as of Thor :Love and Thunder I hit the "this has lost it's charm" point and haven't been to a marvel movie in a theater since. (haven't even stolen/streamed any of them..)

Ok that trailer finally showed me something I could get behind.
Making Bucky the leader and driving force. Bucky tried to sit out and become a congressman, ends up realizing he’s all that’s left of the Avengers on Earth, steps up and uses the thunderbolts group who probably starts as a secret evil group working for Valentina but then go good because if anyone knows what it’s like to have a guilty and evil backstory and going good it’s Bucky. I can see that working.
I just don’t see how they can beat Sentry without it being a cop out like Blacktain America where they don’t win but use the power of social justice and talking to win the day. Maybe sentry goes down for cultural appropriation because he appears in black face
the thing that still pisses me off is this “the avengers are gone” narrative they are using in phase whatever we are at now, but it’s really been done poorly to write off the originals

the problem with the mastery in which the MCU folded independent movie franchises together into one narrative and then expanded to include dozens of new properties is that you can’t put that genie back in the bottle. You can’t go from Endgame back to an MCU where Thor IIron Man Hulk and Cap all had their own things going on and weren’t overlapping. In a post Endgame world there is no “well time for each hero to fuck off back to their own lives” until the next meetup.
you can’t repeat the avengers plot of “a threat bigger than anything ever before has emerged and we need to unite the heroes to defend the planet” again.
it’s just so sloppy, and disjointed.
you wanna tell me the US government has a major hearing and program roll out a new defense program because the avengers are gone, all their friends are on Do Not Disturb so we have to make a new hero, great. I’m pretty sure that was US Agents story lol. Just rehashing the same fucking beats.

White Vision flew off once he got Vision memories back - it's not like he had to answer to the government. He probably needed to figure things out. And given what he tried to do to Wanda, he probably made the logical conclusion it was best that he stay away.

The Avengers being 'disbanded' is the same nonsense they needed for Infinity War, they just need an excuse for why there's no initial organized counterattack from Earth's forces.

As far as we know, Wong is still on Earth and can likely call in Strange and Shang-Chi instantly, as well as whatever of his forces survived Wanda in Multiverse of Madness.
As far as we know, Hulk and son are still on Earth.
Rhodey may or may not be recovered from the shame of being in Secret Wars, but he should be able to hop in a suit.
Speaking of Secret Wars, I didn't watch that shit or The Marvels, but as far as we know Fury / Ms Marvel / possibly Captain Marvel are all on Earth, as well as whatever SHIELD / SWORD resources Fury has access to (like the Skrulls).
Valkyrie, the Asgardians (and their possibly still Thor-powered kids) are all presumably still on Earth as well, and they may be able to contact Thor and/or the Guardians quickly.
The Wakandans are still on Earth as well.
The Ant-Man family is probably still on Earth (though they could be in the quantum realm).
Hawkeye is still around (and along with the Hulk, should arguably be one of the most famous people on Earth), though the power level is limited.
Now, if you want to nitpick that very few of the above are American, and other than Rhodey, none are still explicitly in the US military chain of command, that's one thing, but that Earth has no one is a difficult claim to buy.

The * refers to an expansion of the title, people are guessing New Avengers, Dark Avengers, just plain Avengers, etc. I don't know my Marvel lore enough to know who the fuck they really are. I like Dark Avengers as a concept though. The * also fucks up search on FOH, if you just search for Thunderbolts it won't come up lol
They are appearing in Avengers Doomsday along with the Fantastic Four so it feels like if you wanna see that movie in theaters in 2026, you'll wanna see this and F4 although not necessarily in theaters. I didn't see Captain America Black New World in theaters but I'll see Florence Pugh and Sebastian Stan chop it up for 2 hours

i'm tempted to see this Thursday w/ my kids. it's been a while since we've seen something in the theater, we saw just about every marvel movie up to end game in the theater together. i'm trying to find a review that doesn't spoil the movie that lets me know this is worth going to the theater for.

Hawkeye and Black widow are the absolute worst "super heroes" though. I mean come on! A guy using a bow and arrow vs the multiverse and a girl boss ninja. Those guys make falcon look like a real superhero!
It's kind of a joke to have powerless people in these kinds of films at all. Let alone acting like the black widows can fight monsters and mutants when they couldn't even beat up an under sized construction worker 6 beers deep at the local pub.
