I held out hope throughout season 2, but by the end I thought it was pretty shit, overall. I remember almost nothing of the story now and still remember everything about season 1.

Colin Farrell and Rachel McAdams were very good in it but the dialogue was atrocious and Vince Vaughan sucked.

The story was kind of all over the place too with things happening very early on with certain characters that you basically never saw again or just abruptly ended because of bad writing.

If Farrell and McAdams weren't so good the season would have been almost unwatchable.

I wouldnt listen to anyone here about Season 2. They shit on it because Season 1 set such a high benchmark.

I think it was really surreal, weird and interesting. It kept me, and everyone else, guessing all the way to the last minute of the finale. It wasnt as great as S1 for sure, but I think if its stood on its own, without the "True Detective" marquee hanging over its head, it would have been regarded much more positively.

I've rewatched it several times afterwards and I still like it. It's a really solid 8 hours of TV

The only things we really learned in S2 was that 99% of Vince Vaughn's dialogue was terrible, with 1% being golden. Colin Farrel was the only reason to actually watch. And Astro can have a hard time at understanding obvious plot points.

Oh yeah. I remember that hot sex party McAdams went undercover for. I need to get an invite to one of those.

And... this man trumpeted Prometheus as the best movie ever made for a number of years. I'll just leave you with that, and walk away...

To be fair, after about 10 viewings I did walk that back eventually. Its a 5/10 for me now.

So yeah, just finished my binging. Season 2 was terrible. Thought it had potential at first. Went exponentially downhill after that Mexican gang street standoff with the Illuminati-ish escort sex party BS retardedness. I didn't really enjoy Colin Farrell or Rachel McAdams as DTs. Taylor Kitsch pulled it off. Even Vince Vaughn wasn't completely terrible IMO. (shocking)

I enjoyed season 2. Not as much as s1 but it was still great imo.
It would have been better as 6 episodes instead of 8, with a bunch of bullshit edited out to make a more focused story, but generally, I think it was pretty good.

Main issue for me with season 2 was the terrible finale. I might have rewatched the season 2 if it wasnt for what really happened in the end

Season two becomes instantly better if you could omit every seen with Taylor Kitsch. At the shootout scene where he goes full metal jacket, one thinks "at last, the character has turned the corner". Alas no. The show would be better with addition by subtraction. Farrel, McAdams and Vaughn would have been enough.

Strongly agree. More quality development of Farrel, Mcadams and Vaughn would have been great but I think its obvious they needed the filler. They barely choked out 8 episodes...

Vince Vaughn was a highlight for me. I don't care for any critiques of his character cited here on this forum. Not even the dialogue.

I thought vv had the highest and lowest points in terms of acting. Better direction and writing could have helped a lot to even out those valleys.

The actors all did great for what they were given, the writing is what ruined everything. Klitsch was good but just had terrible writing, there was a lot of moments where they shined but there was equal amounts that was horrible. I have no doubt the cast could have knocked it out if Pizzaman or whomever didnt rush for HBO

Rachel Mcadams was a worthless character

Just watch S2 for the shootout, only thing worthwhile

I thought the shootout, made the previous 4 eps worth it, as a "lengthy character building", segment. Then they just time skip and say fuck it, and you're left with an even shitty 2nd half.

to me the second season turned to shit when the dude in the bird hat or whateverfucking thing that was shoots CF in the back with a shotgun blast. same dude just hours earlier killed some guy with the same shotgun , but difference was, shotgun blast that shot the hero was loaded with rock salt or some dumb shit. gotta love when these psycho killers change up their ammo when its convenient.

That was just an HBO cross-over promotion.

They wanted to remind everyone that Winter is Coming

Vaughns diologue was so bad, but he kind of pulls it off. Like some was great. Some was bad but he jazzes it up.

Well the story was the gun shot the dead guys dick off, and CF was wearing a vest. They also stabbed him and other stuff, and cut out his eyes IIRC

Better, still a bit convenient.

The shootout scene was supposed to be their version of the crazy single take shot from S1 with MM. It didn't live up to that standard, but it was okay for what it was. I think VV tried hard and did well with some parts, but as others noted, the dialogue was almost universally terrible. Some parts worked, and he made it sound good...but most of it just no chance of saving.

Of the other 3, CF clearly was best of the bunch (better than VV too), both with how his character was written and how he played it. TK did okay, but they never really gave his character much of a chance...McAdams was forgettable to be honest, save for a couple parts.

A couple less episodes, and not expanding the main cast might have done it a lot better.
