another terrible, terrible moment. when they have the chick pose as an escort at this party and they escape the bad guys on this dark dirt road, the bad guys just give up after a few miles even thought they are still on this dark deserted road and could have easily been murdered with nobody the wiser. show was just retarded.

That whole infiltration scene was pretty retarded. So much convenient timing and placement for CF and TK to find McAdams at just the right place without knowing shit about the place beforehand.

Oh yeah. I remember that hot sex party McAdams went undercover for. I need to get an invite to one of those.
Will you be having the pasta with walnut sauce or the hotdog with no bun?

As much as season 2 suffered from obvious flaws, from writing to pace to ambition and scope, it did nail some of the crucial aspects needed for proper TV.

Firstly, the screenplay (minus the overused birdseye highway shots) was fantastic, the casting was spot on, Farrel turning out one of his best acting performances with Velcoro. The night he lost his shit and just did a ton of coke and drank himself into oblivion was one of the most gripping scenes Ive ever watched on a show.

Woodroughs character was fucked up but interesting as gays on TV wasnt as prevelant yet. And finally, the supporting actors were very convincing. The Mayor nailed his performance, McAdams father was great, (VVs wife was awful but I'll let that slide) as well as many others. The story was interesting enough to make the show watchable, it just couldnt carry the show like seasons 1's did along with Harrelson and MM.

Finally finished this thread. Season 2 was a gigantic letdown and I have to give @popsicledeath props because he foresaw the shitstorm and was on point with every gripe I too experienced.

I always thought it was just 'fine', but in comparison to season 1 it looked like total crap.

I really would like to see how someone who had never watched season 1, or even heard how good it was, would think of s2 in a vacuum. I think they'd still rate it above average, maybe a 6 or 7 out of 10, and then be blown away by s1.

I mean, 95% of the show was good, but the 5% that wasn't REALLY stands out and makes the whole thing feel uneven. The ending was pretty bland, almost pointless, and that can have a huge effect on your opinion of a show. If the rest is amazing and then has a shit ending, it still makes you think the whole movie/tv show was shitty then. Vaughn had some great scenes, and then a bunch where it's obvious he's trying to force it. That's likely due to the uneven writing. McAdams was just.. there. I didn't hate her character and I didn't like her either. The secretly gay dude was boring until the end, at which point I liked where they were going with him, but then it just stopped. Had they focused more on his 'badass-ness' earlier on, might have been a different story.
Overall, it's not a season I'd recommend people to go out of there way to watch, but I kept watching this show each week when it was coming out, so it at least held my attention. If I actually dislike a show, I stop watching pretty quick. This just felt like it had a good start, but was lacking the 'polish' to make it really good. So, hopefully it really just was that the writer was rushed to pump it out and will be given more time in the future.

I forgot, was he a hidden gay or just had that one gay encounter w/ that guy that keeps on extorting him? Like he had that girlfriend right? or was that just for show. (i think he had to take viagra once)

He was in denial about it, was what I remember. He had a relationship with an army buddy, but he didn't want to admit he was attracted to guys. He would take viagra to fuck his GF cause he had a hard (heh, get it?) time getting it up otherwise. I don't remember the guy extorting him, so much as trying to get him to admit he liked guys and that was ok, but he got violent with him for suggesting that.

Oh boy. HBO really love this Pizzolotto guy a lot, in like a bromance way. Any other guy would have tanked out after S2.

I'll take more True Detective though.

Hope they give him enough time to write a decent script this time.

True Detective Season 1 is probably one of my favorite shows ever.

Differences between S1 and S2 were so huge, it might as well be a different show. The first one had so much feeling behind it, surrounded by mysticism voodo type shit and set in a place where all that truly shined. This coupled with good acting and good script made the formula just right.

Cannot even tell you right now, a year after the second season, what it was even about, where the first season is still in memory.

Vince Vaughan had trouble growing avocados or something.

I'm not sure if it holds up to "I'll come back and butt fuck your father with your mom's headless corpse on this goddamn lawn." ~Ray Velcoro
