I could see it being useful for sub-only MP games, should cut down on "Stream Sniping". But otherwise, meh. Don't think anyone I watch would do something like that, but the people I watch generally have at most a few hundred viewers, if that. As said, sounds like it's geared more to those super popular streamers.

The sub-only streams will be popular with the whores, and for the big streamers doing a non-game meme night or something. I don't imagine gaming will be a big part of it outside of maybe some pretty niche situations. It also opens up the possibility for PPV stuff like pay-only concerts and so on.

That's exactly what that sub based model is aimed at. IRL streamers. Wouldn't surprise me if the "content" restrictions (i.e. revealing clothing/provocative content) are different for sub-only streams as well.

Twitch/Amazon is smart enough to know they can make bank off porn, they just need a way to hide it from the general viewers.

They would need an age minimum sub for that to happen, and even then Amazon isn't going to want to associate a primarily gaming website with literal porn as advertisers would flee the site en-mass.

No way in hell would Amazon allow something even remotely close to that happen. The potential fallout to Amazon itself would be unimaginable

There's a lot uses for such a thing.

Sub only charity streams where the sub money goes to charity
Sub only artist streams, maybe concerts
PPV stuff like sports
Streamers putting on special events as rewards for their subs
Etc...

There's no end to shit they can do with this. It opens up a lot of new territory for them to monetize events and to further encourage subs in the usual cases.

I should have clarified my statement a bit more, by "porn" I would mean soft core stuff like nudity, but not like sex / masturbation.

Then why are they entertaining sub only streams?

Sub only streams cant break twitch's TOS (nudity, etc) because when a logged in person goes to your channel, they get a 5 minute preview before they are blocked out for being a non-sub. No one who is making bank slooching up thirst dollars without actually showing anything is going to risk their channel by breaking the TOS during a sub only stream where anyone can see something during the preview window.

Sub only streams will probably be vehicles for new kinds of streams (sports, movies) and less video game related.

Sub only streams opens the doorway for tv/movie streams, Amazon has the rights to a serious amount of content and if Netflix keeps astroturfing itself like it has been it should only be a matter if time before it gets bought up. I’m hoping amazon does it so they can add that content to twitch. I use my amazon prime sub for Rifftrax, the idea of subscribing to even a streamer is asinine to me. No one puts out content I consider worth my money, no one is that entertaining to watch play a fucking game but that’s just me.

Twitch’s future isn’t gaming streams, it’s entertainment streams that let people riff, chat, and communicate with the streamer in some fashion. Sub only is a good way to monetize that if they can provide content that is worth the money. I wouldn’t pay for a Rifftrax sub, I would not sub at all if we didn’t get the free sub with Amazon Prime. However, that is just me and the number of streamers with thousands upon thousands of subs screams a different market exists that I do not represent.

Twitch and amazon basically could create sub only movie content themed streams, like First Choice, Super Channel, The Movie Channel, etc but with the added fun of the chat interface. A horror channel, anime, tv comedy, and it opens the door way to special events like premiers, live commentary, AMAs, etc.

I can the sub only thing working for a variety of non-non-nudity reasons, however if they don’t utilize those reasons then I don’t know wtf they are doing.

True, two of my favourite streams are the weekend Bob Ross streams and the /hungry channel that streams old food shows. I'd love to see more content like that, though I'm not sure I'd sub for it. For $5 I'd prefer just a regular netflix type watch when you want than live shit.

Oh, and they had old Carl Sagan Cosmos on a special channel a month or two ago.

They removed Twitched from Roku so I don't even use Twitch anymore. Rumor is Twitch will release a new app but not watching anything until then.

I'm surprised it's taken this long for these ideas to be explored. Something like "Live from Daryl's House" would be a huge hit on streaming services like Twitch.

It would, but then you'd probably run into the Daddy Of Five situation. People trying so hard to be funny, that they'll attempt anything -- even abuse -- to get laughs.

And?

Stupid people will always do stupid shit, there is only so much you can do to negate that and if you are going to hamstring yourself every time someone might do something stupid, dangerous, or cruel then you might as well stay in bed.

The only way to monetize Sub-only stream, is movies, doc, sport in other word, watch TV with others and chat live. And officially of course, that means good quality.

Esport, charity, whore painting her tits with Thanos face, won't do.

Right now you can watch TV alone.
Or watch stuff on twitch together. (not tv)

Now the only way studios accept to share copyright for movies on twitch is SUB-only cast.

So you want to find a new product. Not charging ppl for something that already exist.

How heavily does Twitch/Amazon enforce account sharing? I know my mom and sisters share an Amazon Prime account and just make sure they pay for stuff with their own cards and don't use Twitch at all so if something does happen with movies or sports ending up on Twitch I'm totally gonna commandeer that Prime sub.

I have had the same twitch account running on multiple devices in my own home (PS4 for viewing, iPad for chatting) and never once got tagged but we did back in the day for Netflix before we upgraded our account to allow several viewing instances under the same ip. Twitch I think would be more of an issue wth chatting than viewing given that twitch doesn’t actually charge a fee of any kind to view right now.
