Blizz (read Activison) must be freaking the fuck out right about now. Not devs, they don't give a fuck but the top brass who only think of quarterly reports and share values. I bet they ignored the problem of stagnant, declining MAU for years, convincing themselves that it's not an issue, they are still the biggest and therefore the only mmo worth playing. And now they have to start thinking how to lure ex wow players back from an mmo which seems fresh and new and most importantly, good. Best case scenario, it would take years, since they have already too deep into the development of the next same old content expansion, mainly just banking on old players subbing and playing because they have invested so much time into it. But once you cut the cord and switch, it's hard to come back to the same re-hashed stuff with heavily gated and grindy progression systems stacked on top of each other. Activision should shown balls and made a decision to make wow 2 once they saw the direction current game is heading. They should have seen it coming years ago and by now they would have had game well in the works with announcement a few years down the line. But now it's too late. They need to rush now and that would lead to compromises which leads to borrowing from old wow and thus making the new wow pointless. They have totally missed the boat.
